With the goblin army swarming in around me I had a crazy idea. What if I combined Speed Burst with lightning? I knew the arena was too small for Speed Burst but what if I was able to change how they both worked separately and combined them into something new. I could use them in tandem in a way that could eliminate some of the goblin army and not collapse the cave system.
I decided to give it a try. I readied a swing at the same time I activated Speed Burst.
[System] "Lightning Flash unlocked. Combining Speed Burst with lightning has allowed your sword swings to strike with lightning arcs."
I bursted forward like a flash of lightning. Time slowed down allowing me to move unhindered. I moved so quickly my attacks generated concentrated lightning at a targeted area instead of a surrounded area. This allowed me to avoid the possibility of a cave in but still deal immense damage in a wide enough area. I managed to defeat around 300 goblins within a few seconds but unfortunately I noticed a drawback.
[System] "Mana reserves depleted. Mana can only be restored by eating or sleeping."
Now I have to deal with the remaining goblins the old fashion way. I gripped my sword tightly and focused on taking the rest out. There were so many goblins that it became time consuming and boring. Goblin ranks ranged from basic to hobgoblin. Hobgoblins seemed to have a little more intelligence than the basic ones and they managed to learn how to poison their weapons. Everytime they attacked me and missed whatever their weapon touched, it started to melt as if it was touched with acid. Not knowing what would happen I didn't want it touching me. I had a clever idea to start using some of the basic goblins as shields while I was fighting. This meant that the hobgoblins were striking their own members and they ended up melting out of my hands. I didn't think the power they possessed was all theirs so maybe the Shaman Mage enhanced them prior to me arriving. Either way, my strategy was working. Anytime a goblin melted beyond use I would just grab a new one. This way I could attack the hobgoblins while also eliminating the basic goblins at the same time. After what felt like hours of constant fighting I finally dispatched the last hobgoblin. I took a bit of time to rest before I went after the Shaman Mage.
Beyond the throne of corpses was a passageway that led further into the cave system. It was like navigating a labyrinth maze with unknown traps and possibly more enemies. After getting lost and turned around I finally reached the bottom. In front of me was a shrine to Chaosclaw. A massive structure almost completely in ruins.
"Hey Shaman Mage, come out, come out wherever you are."
"Damn it the Fox survived! How though?"
"Well first I eliminated the army by half and then I used some as shields while the rest attacked them."
*Face palms* "Goblins are so stupid!"
"Now I just have to turn you into a blood stain and I can go home."
"Yeah I'm not cool with that idea so I'm going to pass."
"If 500 goblins couldn't stop me, what makes you think you can?"
"My master wills it so."
"Tell your master to get cozy in his prison."
"Once I kill you, I'm going to wipe that fishing village off the map along with your pathetic healer."
"If you touch even one of them there won't be any form of magic that can save you!"
"Looks like I struck a nerve! It seems you have a soft spot for those humans. How about I just make them fight themselves instead. You can watch as they all kill each other. First to go will be the woman and children!"
"I'm warning you mage!"
"Hahaha! You're in no position to do anything about it."
I activated my Aura and rushed the mage. I ready my sword and got within striking range. I swung with all my power and filled the room with lightning.
"You're going to have to do better than that Fox!"
The mage managed to put up a protective barrier last minute. The recoil caused me to drop my sword. Before I could retrieve it, the mage picked it up.
"Aaaaah!"
I screamed in agony as the mage stabbed me with my own sword.
"Hey look a Fox Kabob! Too bad I don't have a fire to roast you over. I'm sure you would taste delicious extra crispy."
He then throws me to the ground like discarded trash. I lay there bleeding trying to think of something I could do.
"I think I'm going to start with your little healer. First I will explain in detail how pathetic you were as you died before I torture her until her last breath."
"I swear to God if you touch her…"
"You'll do what? Nothing that's right!"
I felt anger towards the mage building up inside me. The more he talked the more that anger grew. I grabbed the sword handle and pulled it out of myself. I gripped it tightly and charged at him once more.
"Why don't you just die already!" Grabbing me by my throat.
As I dangle there I feel myself dying faster. I thought I was Immortal so why do I feel so weak?
[System] "Immortal's Rage activates! Only capable of use when in absolute need. Strength and speed become God-like. Aura turns red and you no longer know the difference between friend or foe."
"What's going on!"
I grabbed his hands and forced them off my neck and headbutted him. He gets slammed into the ground by the force of the impact. I then roundhouse kicked him, sending him flying into the wall of the ruins.
"How the hell can you still be moving? You should be dead already! No matter, I will just kill you with this! METEOR BOMBARDMENT!"
As the meteors crashed all over the place I used Speed Burst to run behind him.
"You missed!" Whispering in his ear.
The mage hesitates in fear as he turns around. I uppercut him, sending him into the air. I grabbed my sword and threw it at the mage pinning him to the rock wall. I grab onto the handle and whisper in his ear again.
"You can't kill an Immortal being!"
"IMMORTAL?!"
"Now die!"
I used my Aura to send lightning bolts directly through the sword frying the mage to ash. Once he was dead the shrine started glowing as if his death was some kind of key to activating it. Once back on the ground my Aura vanished and I could barely move. I mustered up the last of my strength to use Speed Burst to get out of that cave system. Once outside I saw that it was already the dawn of a new day before blacking out.
