Chapter 6

Mark is en route to his to the center park, lost in thought. He is preoccupied with musings, failing to notice someone approaching from the opposite direction. Absent-minded, they collide, jolting Mark out of his reverie.

"I'm really sorry. I didn't realize that..." he pauses, "I should have watched where I was going. Sorry again," Mark apologizes hastily.

"Well, that makes two of us. I didn't see you coming either. Guess both of us have a lot on our minds," the man simply says with a warm smile.

"Yeah, you're right," Mark responds, rubbing the back of his hand in a soothing manner. There is an awkward silence for a moment before the man speaks again.

"Would you mind if we converse? You know, sharing our thoughts frees the mind. I'm heading to the nearby cafe to wait for someone. You can accompany me if you don't mind," the man says with a reassuring smile. Mark hesitates for a minute, unsure about following a stranger.

"I'm sorry, but I don't know you. You're a stranger; I can't just follow you like that," he signs, "but on second thought, I will love to."

BAKERY SHOP

Malik emerges from the bathroom, already changed and ready to leave. He stands still on the spot, observing his surroundings. He's been enjoying his stay on this world, just two days away from his home world.

"What's on your mind? Hmm?" Ajoke suddenly inquires from nowhere.

"Oh, hmm. Hey. I didn't see you there. Hmm, I will be leaving now since we're closed for today. I guess I'll see you tomorrow then," Malik blurts out and bids her a hasty farewell before exiting. Ajoke is surprised and ponders why Malik is in such a hurry. She brushes the thoughts off later.

Malik is on the sidewalk, lost in thought. Things are different from where he comes from. Everything here is technology-based, no sign of supernatural elements like in his world (The Veil). And also, where he comes from, there's a special ceremony the day someone turns 18 years old; that person will manifest an ability, they are also known as the gifted. But also, if it's the other way around, someone turns out having no special ability, they will be looked down on, discriminated against because such a person is considered normal and believed to contribute nothing to the growth of his world

He is a victim of bullying since he has no special power, just ordinary and weak. Malik decides to join his world's army with a friend who's also normal with no ability. After a series of training, they are recruited and sent to catch a traitor, which leads him to stay on Earth and worse of all with the traitor himself.
