Chapter 58

"Left here!" Lou barked, gesturing with the flamethrower. "Defense mechs are just past the biometrics lab!"

Jacques gripped his shotgun tight, sweat making the metal slick against his palms. He kept pace backward with Eugene, both men covering their retreat.

"You think we lost it?" Eugene whispered, finger twitching on his trigger.

A deafening crash ripped through the corridor, followed by the screech of metal and crumbling concrete. The familiar roar of the werewolf shook the walls, sounding much closer than before.

"Well, I think that sound answers your question," Jacques muttered. "Thing's like a goddamn tracking missile."

Lou pointed ahead. "There! Exit's right through those doors!"

Through the reinforced glass, Jacques spotted salvation – three Mark VII Combat Mechs standing in the exterior exit with their twin mini-guns sprouting from their shoulders.
