Restless current

The river trip was something that Emily was originally Looking forward to but as things stood now, she felt somewhat conflicted. As their counselor had to stay behind in order to look after Henry she was put in charge of the butterfly cabin temporarily, as a result of the counselors being understaffed.

Emily performed her new assignment rather well as she was rather popular with the members of the butterfly cabin, therefore she found it rather easy to get them to follow her lead. With the trip itself being rather pleasant as the river was moving at a moderate pace which made for an enjoyable experience. It was also rather wide which made accommodating their large group rather easy.

She had originally assumed that she would simply have to prevent Luther the large chubby boy, from picking on Ryan the short boy with square glasses, however that was not entirely the case. As Emily had become aware over the past couple of days that the smaller boy could be formidable in his own right. He was rather clever in what he lacked in physicality he made up for in his intellect. Ryan often pulled pranks on Luther which put the larger boy in situations where he would get in trouble with the counselors. With Luther's retaliation being physically harassing the smaller boy.

Since Emily was in charge of the butterfly cabin, she thought it would be best to keep the two close by. As if she let them go off in separate groups, they might try fighting against one another which could be problematic on the river trip.

Emily's two companions had just proceeded to get into another fight, which was making it difficult to traverse the river smoothly. Emily was at her wit's end. She was not the type of person who liked to force people into doing things, but as things stood now the two might end up capsizing their canoe.

She proceeded to smack the side of the canoe with her hand signaling the other members of the butterfly cabin. The other members of the butterfly cabin noticed Emily's signal and began encircling her canoe. Luther and Ryan's altercation briefly halted as they stared at their fellow cabinmates confused. Emily spoke in a calm voice however a clear edge was present in her tone, "I understand the two of you don't like each other. I've chosen to leave you to your own devices since you've kept your feud between one another. But I have not been able to enjoy the trip since it started. So, I will give you a warning.''

The other members of butterfly cabin gave the two boys a rather threatening look, "If you continue to make my experience on this trip unpleasant, I'll then make it my personal mission to make your remaining time at camp unpleasant.'' Emily proceeded to look back at the two boys to ensure that they understood her.

It appeared as if they did, as both boys relented after seeing how much influence Emily possessed.

Even though that issue had been taken care of Emily would have another one to deal with. As the group was approaching a rather dangerous section of the river. The danger lies in the fact that this section of the river increased in speed, there were also lots of natural hazards such as large rocks and fallen trees in this section of the river.

Emily was aware of a procedure which allowed for safe travel through this section of the river. Since she was the temporary leader of her cabin group, she had to ensure this procedure was followed.

Each canoe had a device similar to the ones which went on zip lines, which needed to be attached to a cable system which went through a safe path through the river.

The procedure itself was rather simple the group would have to slow down with their paddles, and attach their canoe to the cable system. Emily had to ensure that her group members were all properly secured to the cable system, this made her slightly nervous as this would be the first time she would have done such a thing. It also did not help that the butterfly cabin was behind all the others meaning she could not ask any of the other counselors for help.

Emily began Instructing her cabin members to slow down and begin the process of hooking their devices to the cable system. She was determined to be thorough in her inspection of the devices, and while this ensured their safety It also created a gap between the butterfly cabin and the other groups. Meaning it would be a while before they reconvened on the calmer section of the river.

Even though the members of the butterfly cabin were safe as a result of the cable system, The speed at which they were now traveling was somewhat unnerving. The dangerous hazards which they were narrowly avoiding were no comfort either.

Emily and her two companions were positioned in the middle of the group, since it allowed her to issue out orders in the most effective way.

Once the group reached the halfway point Emily's nervousness subsided somewhat, as it seemed the cable system was doing its job rather well. If only it had stayed that way. Emily seemed to be the only one who noticed that the canoes were drifting away from the cable system. She began to examine the pillars on the cable system. She noticed that they were slightly bending

Before Emily knew it the pillars holding the cable system suddenly snapped. Sending each member of the group flying off in different directions. Panic quickly began to overtake everyone as they were beginning to rush into things such as rocks or dead trees.

Emily had to think fast otherwise everyone present would end up smashing into various hazards and be taken by the current. She knew that if that were to happen, they would all drown as the river water would be moving far too intensely.

thinking quickly Emily was able to notice that while the pillars were destroyed, they stuck out slightly. This meant that she could identify which route they would have to take in order to make it out safely. She began to yell as loud as she could in order to gather the attention of everyone, "Listen closely We need to steer our canoes to wear the pillars are sticking out of the water, since it's our only way to make it out safely!'' She then quickly added, "For the people nearest to me relay what I just said to the people at the front and back! ''

To the group's credit despite being gripped with fear they were able to execute the plan. But that did not mean the plan went without any incident. One other group in front of Emily wasn't able to maneuver correctly through one of the safe zones, which caused them to hit a pile of rocks which sent them spinning uncontrollably.

Emily instructed Ryan and Luther to steer the canoe in the direction of the group in need of help. It appeared as if the two were going to refuse her order. She gave them a look which was both serious and pleading, the two could not resist for long before giving in to her order.

Once they had reached the group in need of aid it took a great deal of effort to stop them from spinning. So much so that Emily's group nearly hit a piece of debris. So much of the group's attention was focused on helping the others, they did not notice that they were in danger themselves. The canoe seemed to hit a shape that emerged from the water which sent it flying into the air. They landed violently however they were lucky that their canoe did not capsize.

The boys were able to hold on and steady themselves even through the violent landing, Emily on the other hand was not so lucky. She was caught completely off guard as a result of her attention being divided from all that was happening.

Emily was unable to regain her footing which sent her tumbling out of the canoe, and into the perilous river water.

The current swept her away she tried to swim she tried to struggle, but it all seemed to be in vain. She tried to hold her breath desperate not to drown, but her body collided with a piece of rock knocking the wind out of her. Water began to fill up her throat, she was desperate for air and she gasped only to take on more water.

Emily was losing strength and consciousness fast, before she blacked out, she thought she saw a humanoid shape approaching rapidly.
