Liu Mei snorted coldly and said, "You think I'd just leave you behind? Stop talking nonsense."
Lin Fengmian wanted to say more, but Liu Mei gave him no chance to speak further and left abruptly. This left him feeling like an ant on a hot stove, thinking they were all about to part ways.
But if that were to happen, whether Liu Mei and the others lived or died was uncertain, but Lin Fengmian knew for sure he'd be doomed.
After a while, the women said they wanted to take a break, temporarily closing the testing station and retreating to a side room to rest.
The two "chives" remaining were puzzled but didn't seem overly suspicious.
Lin Fengmian was anxious, not knowing how to get away. Just then, he spotted the alluring wife of the City Lord. An idea popped into his head, and he quickly beckoned her over. The City Lord's wife, curious, approached him.
"Immortal Master, is there something you need?"
Lin Fengmian lowered his voice, "Madam, I have something to discuss with you. Could you find someone to take my place for a while?"
"And, bring me some different clothes to help me leave quietly. Be sure not to alert my senior sisters and brothers."
"This…"
The City Lord's wife glanced at him, misinterpreting his intentions, and her face flushed red with embarrassment. "Isn't it inappropriate in broad daylight?"
Lin Fengmian froze for a moment, realizing from her hesitant and coy expression what she was thinking.
What on earth? How did you get that idea?!
How could your mind be so… corrupt?! Just how useless is that City Lord of yours that you've become so frustrated?
But now wasn't the time to get bogged down in that. Lin Fengmian maintained a firm tone, "There's no time to explain. Hurry!"
"Alright, Immortal Master, please wait."
Fearing she might upset him, the City Lord's wife quickly nodded and left hurriedly. At this moment, her heart raced wildly, both nervous and expectant, and even her steps wobbled as if in a daze.
Immortal cultivators truly are extraordinary… they know how to "play."
"Madam, are you feeling unwell?" one of her maidservants asked curiously.
"I think the sun's a bit too strong. Help escort me back," the City Lord's wife replied.
The maid looked up at the overcast sky and wore a confused expression.
A quarter-hour later, the City Lord's wife returned with a young man, seemingly someone she wanted to insert into the testing queue on behalf of the City Lord's estate.
The people waiting outside had some complaints but were too afraid to voice them.
Inside the tent, Lin Fengmian quickly changed out of his outer robe and exchanged clothes with the young man, giving him a few brief instructions.
"Immortal Master, don't worry, I won't tell a soul," the young man said eagerly, grinning ear to ear as he put on the robe. He had clearly been looking forward to this job for some time.
Lin Fengmian, still pulling on his clothes, gave a brief nod and casually tossed him a bottle of strong vitality-restoring pills.
"These pills will enhance your strength. They're yours."
The young man's face lit up with joy. "Thank you for your generosity, Immortal Master."
"Don't worry, Immortal Master. He's my nephew, and you can trust him," the City Lord's wife whispered.
Lin Fengmian nodded, "Let's go."
Lowering his head, Lin Fengmian followed behind the City Lord's wife, pretending to be a failed candidate, his face full of disappointment.
Once they were away from the crowd, the two climbed into a luxurious carriage. Inside, the floor was covered in animal pelts, and fragrant incense lingered in the air.
After drawing the curtains, the City Lord's wife leaned in close, soft as silk, and asked shyly, "Immortal Master, where should we go?"
With a suggestive look in her eyes, she continued, "I have a small house in the southern outskirts of the city, not far from here. We could go there. You can do whatever you wish with me."
Lin Fengmian absentmindedly wrapped his arm around her and replied, "No need. First, have the carriage circle around the city, stopping by each gate. After that, we'll go to the place you mentioned."
"Huh?" The City Lord's wife looked surprised but quickly nodded. "Of course, as you wish, Immortal Master."
She coughed delicately and then ordered the coachwomen, "Drive around the city first, stopping at every gate, and then head to the riverside estate in the south."
"Whatever you hear, don't come inside. Say nothing to anyone, or you'll lose your heads."
"Yes, Madam!" the two coachwomen replied in unison.
After giving instructions, the City Lord's wife turned back to Lin Fengmian, hesitating before starting to undress.
Lin Fengmian was stunned for a moment before snapping out of it. "Madam, what are you doing?"
The City Lord's wife shot him a flirtatious glance and replied, "Immortal Master, aren't you planning to indulge with me in the carriage?"
Leaning on him, she whispered, "It's so thrilling to do this in broad daylight, in the bustling city center. You're truly bold, Immortal Master, but I love it!"
Lin Fengmian: ????
Heaven help me! I swear, I never had such intentions!
This woman's imagination is something else. What a waste it would be if she didn't join the Hehuan Sect!
She's tempting me to go along with it!
If only the timing were right, Lin Fengmian wouldn't mind having a "deep conversation" with her. But for now, he had no choice but to hold her back gently.
Pulling her into his arms, he smiled and said, "No rush, we've got plenty of time."
Since there was still some distance to the northern gate, Lin Fengmian decided to pass the time by flirting with her in the carriage—at least he could enjoy a little fun.
A little while later, when the carriage passed through the northern gate, Lin Fengmian quietly slipped out of the window without anyone noticing.
Inside the carriage, the City Lord's wife had fallen asleep, likely dreaming something wonderful.
Lin Fengmian, at least somewhat of a gentleman, tidied up her disheveled clothes before leaving to prevent her from any embarrassing exposure.
Watching the carriage sway away in the distance, Lin Fengmian discreetly ducked into an alley and headed towards the city gates.
As he walked, his mind raced, contemplating whether to flee alone. But remembering that the antidote was still in their hands, he steeled himself and continued towards the rendezvous point.
Once outside the city, he followed a narrow path, searching for his companions. But after walking for some time, there was no one in sight, and a dreadful thought struck him.
Damn it, I knew these witchy women were more ruthless than me!
It wasn't just the two "chives" they abandoned—I've been ditched too!
Lin Fengmian hadn't expected even Xia Yunxi to leave him behind, and he couldn't help but reflect on his own choices.
The allure of women, the doom of heroes!
All he could hope now was that no one was following him, and he continued his desperate escape up the mountain path.
Meanwhile, in another part of the city, several young monks had gathered, deep in conversation.
"Brother Fahui, do you really think they're from the Yushu Sect? Those women seem suspicious to me," Faming wondered aloud.
"Faming, mind your words. We're from Yangquan Temple now! Stop calling them 'those women'," Fahui sternly reprimanded.
Faming reluctantly muttered an apology, just as a man in a wide-brimmed hat hurried back.
"Brother, they're definitely from the Hehuan Sect, and those two men are being held as their cultivation furnaces!"
"I knew those women were shady! Let's go after them!" Faming slammed the table, completely discarding any semblance of a monk's demeanor.
