I kept track of a lot of "dangerous elements" while I was in the Empty Bridge while taking the occasional walk with my puppet body.
One of the things I kept track of was the Mage Association. Especially three specific families.
Einzbern, Makiri, and Tohsaka.
The Einzbern family began losing some of their status in the World of Mage-craft after Ainzel just... vanished. I couldn't find where she went or even why she disappeared. Zelretch seemed to know something, but didn't tell me much beyond the fact she was still alive. He was following her request apparently.
Anyway, when the Einzbern family turned their sight to the Holy Grail, I immediately went there to stop them. Justeaze, the current head of the family, was surprisingly reasonable. I explained to her that the Grail was a dead-end in reaching Third Magic because keeping it around for so long would undoubtedly cause it to be corrupt.
Justeaze was understandably disappointed but thankful that I "saved the Einzbern family what could have been centuries of wasted resources", as she put it. To make up for it - and honestly because I saw Ainzel as a friend - I supplied their family with a lot of raw materials and hard to get Mystical resources to create their Humonculie with.
They're now focusing on honing their crafting skills rather than other methods like the Holy Grail. Since Justeaze is their closest attempt and she was born from a mutation, they had previously given up, but the materials I offered seemed to rekindle their motivation.
The Makiri family was a bit more difficult to deal with. Zoulgen couldn't turn to the Holy Grail or such plans without the Einzbern's support, but he was still determined to "save the world with immortality".
I killed him as soon as his experiments looked anything remotely inhumane.
I didn't do anything to the Makiri family itself. Without Zoulgen's influence, the family didn't turn out so bad. Sadly, me killing Zoulgen kind of seriously effected them in negative ways. For how much of a bastard he was, he was good at keeping the family stable politically in the Mage Association.
I visited their next head to give him a few advices on how to keep the family from falling apart. Since Zoulgen never shared his deeper secrets and I made sure to make it look like an accident, he - the current Makiri head - had no idea who I am and I just told him to call me "anonymous benefactor"!
Thankfully, he was desperate enough to listen to my advice to help his family. The Makiri family still use insects, but as Familiars rather than experiments. They use all kinds of insects to gather information and locate things. Nowadays, the Makiri family is one of the best suppliers of information for the Mage Association thanks to their Familiars reaching places that normal people or familiars can't reach.
The Tohsaka family was by far the easiest to deal with, mainly because I didn't need to do anything. Without the Einzbern or Makiri family getting together with them, that family had no knowledge of the Grail, how to use it, or any other dangerous element. They were basically... just there, honestly. There was one thing I miscalculation, however.
That was Tokiomi's sheer level of stupidity. There really needs to be a level just made for people like him.
Why? Because Tokiomi's idiocy led me to THIS situation.
"Okay, Sakura, this is our new home," I said to the young girl as I held her hand - in my puppet body -standing in front of the newly bought house.
The girl just looked... lost. She genuinely didn't know what to do and I don't blame her. That moron of a father practically threw her away because of Magus laws of only one heir.
If that idiot knew those laws then he should have been more careful while doing the deed. Freaking idiot barely asked any questions when I came in and told him I'd take her.
The house was pretty simple. A two story house with a living room, a kitchen, a spacious back yard, and three rooms upstairs with a bathroom in each room. I had to call in a favour from the Mage Association, but they didn't ask any questions.
It really helps to have Brishisan on the Mage-craft equivalent of speed dial.
After I walked in and offered her some food, which she ate hesitantly, Sakura just sat there staring at her lap. She just sat there for a few moments before finally speaking up.
"Can I... see my sister?" She asked in an almost dead tone.
"Err," I scratched the back of my head awkwardly. "You have school tomorrow, right? You two go to the same school, so... maybe?"
I really didn't want to say no because she genuinely looked hopeful, especially after I said that. But, I knew that idiot is probably going to tell Rin to stay away from Sakura or not talk to her.
After Sakura went to her room to rest, I checked up on her and saw her constantly tossing and turning. She wasn't having a nightmare, she was just having trouble sleeping, which is normal for children whenever they suddenly change homes. After a while, she seemed to finally tire herself out and fall asleep.
For a single second, my eyes didn't see Sakura, and instead saw a girl with red hair and purple horns wearing nothing but rags in her place.
Sighing, I slowly closed the door and walked away.
"When Yu finds out I took in another kid, she'll never let me hear the end of it," I mumbled as I walked downstairs and headed out of the house after covering the area around it in Runes.
Third POV:
Tokiomi Tohsaka was doing some late night research in his study. To say his wife and daughter were furious on what happened with Sakura would be an understatement. He was definitely spending the next few nights in his study.
However, rules were rules. Only one heir can inherit the Tohsaka Mage-craft and their family's crest. Rin was chosen for that position, so as much as it pained him, Sakura couldn't truly stay.
He sometimes envied the Edelfelt's 'Sisters' ability. Standing up from his desk, Tokiomi went to pick up a book from one of the shelves. Only for him to suddenly trip and to fall on... dirt?
Tokiomi immediately looked around and saw that he was no longer in his study, nor was even in his family's territory. Instead, he seemed to be in the forest near the mountain.
Before he can stand up, someone stepped on his back and pushed him to the ground.
"Don't even think about moving," his assailant said. Turning his head, Tokiomi saw a man wearing a black suit with two toned hair standing over him.
"Wait... aren't you the man who took Sakura?" Tokiomi asked before narrowing his eyes. "What do you want?"
If this person can suddenly bring him out of his mansion and to this place undetected by the spells his family has for security, that means he's powerful enough to kill him should he want, but he didn't.
"Honestly, what I want is simple, but I'll have to dump it down for you to understand," the man knelt down to get closer to Tokiomi's face. "First off, please don't even think of using any Mage-craft, and I mean that crystal you have in your sleeve," the head of the Tohsaka family froze, his hand loosening on the crystal he held now that the man was aware of it. "Second, what I want is for Sakura to be able to talk to Rin
casually."
"I can't do that. She is no longer-" Tokiomi was cut off by the assailant grabbing the back of his head and smashing it on the ground, nearly breaking his nose. "It seems there's a misunderstanding. I wasn't making a request, I was giving you an order," the man snarled, glaring at Tokiomi. "You won't tell Rin to stay away from Sakura, and if you already did then you'll tell her that there was a mistake and she doesn't have to keep her distance, understood?"
"Who are you?" Tokiomi groaned, glaring back at his assailant.
"You Magus know me as 'Elemantor'," that statement caused all colors to leave Tokiomi's face. "Y-You're the one Lord Brishisan warned-"
"The Director of the Clock Tower himself avoids conflict with me, so that should let you know how much in danger you are," Elemantor's grip on Tokiomi's head tightened. "Did you know that there is ways to permanently cripple an entire family's Mage-craft abilities? I can make it so that you, your children, their children, and every descendant of the Tohsaka bloodline is an absolute failure of a Magus. If Sakura and Rin don't talk to each other tomorrow at school, I will make it happen. Don't try to weasel out of it by sending Rin away or subtly making her avoid Sakura. You will let them be and will not mess with their relationship in anyway. If you do, I will know and you will pay," Tokiomi felt something on his right hand. "I just marked you with Primordial Runes. They're like a time-bomb, basically. I will detonate them the minute I suspect you're trying something."
With that, Tokiomi found himself thrown onto his chair in his study. For a few seconds, he had hoped that what had just happened was just a dream, but the Runes on his right arm were proof it wasn't.
First POV:
After giving Sakura some simple breakfast - just a normal sandwich with eggs-, I prepared her for school and walked her there.
"Uhmm... thank you Mr..." Sakura trailed off, not knowing my name.
I did tell her yesterday what my name was, but I guess she was too busy trying to keep up with what was happening. "My name is Zack, and don't worry about it. I'll be here to pick you up when school is over."
"Can't I go with my sister home?" She asked and I grimaced.
"Sadly, no. You can hang out with her as much as you want though," that wasn't the answer she wanted, but she didn't look more sad so I guess it was good enough.
After the loud bell began ringing, Sakura thanked me again and walked into school. I watched from afar as she ran into Rin. The two sisters just stared at each other for a moment before running and giving each other a hug.
Seeing that Tokiomi obviously decided to use his brain for once, I sighed and began walking back to the house. I'm gonna have to prepare a few things.
Make the house more warm and welcoming. Buy girl stuff. Clothes. Probably paint her room with a more girl-ish color. And maybe get a job?
I don't need it, but I'd like to set an example for little Sakura.
"Man, you'd think I'd actually know how to deal with this situation at this point," I sighed, shaking my head.
