Chapter Eleven

Dominic

Skylar Brooks.

Joseph's puppy. My mate.

The words kept replaying in my head, as if I didn't believe them. I'd truly discovered her.

She was more gorgeous than I could have imagined. Her silky wavy hazelnut hair fell just below her shoulders, drawing attention to her large fascinating emerald green eyes.

They had pulled me to her from the moment I lay eyes on her. She had a beautiful round face, full of intrigue.

I was excited to learn more about her. She appeared kind and mild, yet had a fierce nature. I was proud to name her mine, mate.

But she didn't trust me, and I couldn't blame her after my foolish members forcibly removed her from her pack, which had now shown to be in my benefit.

Her Wolf desired mine, but Skylar was proving tough.

After she recounted my past, I could better comprehend her feistiness. Marcus had told her lies, and she had only heard about my murdering Wolves. The thought was disappointing. She should've listened to her Wolf.

After giving her some space and myself some time to process her statements, I returned to her in her new room.

Skylar was no longer wearing the white cloth dress, but rather a pair of grey joggers and an oversized cropped t-shirt that revealed no flesh. Even in such little clothing, she appeared breath-taking.

"Hello," I mumbled as I hurriedly took my seat by the window.

I didn't want to leave her out of sight, so I brought my work from the office along. Skylar did not respond to my welcome, but I could feel her gaze on me.

To avoid making her uncomfortable, I focused on the papers on my lap, scrolling through the sheets.

My Wolf purred as her look on me became more intense, and I couldn't keep it together any longer.

Perhaps something bothers her. "Do you need anything?"

Her pale cheeks were tinted crimson red, and she swiftly shifted her look elsewhere, entirely ignoring me.

I battled the impulse to laugh, knowing that it wasn't appropriate for the situation. She irritated me but also brought joy into my life.

"What is that?" she inquired, glancing down at the papers on my lap.

I was astonished by her sudden interest in my pack matters. It was a positive indicator.

"Pack your work. I have to review these files every few days to ensure that everything is working smoothly."

Her gaze stayed fixed on the papers for a few seconds before she nodded, as if she had finally grasped what I was saying. I was already proud of her. "Do you want to take a look?" I questioned, returning my focus to the papers. "It would be a good start as the Luna."

My Wolf purred with pleasure as the word left my mouth.

Although I had not given much thought to the idea of having a mate, the actuality of having one made me understand why Wolves were so anxious to find their other half. Even though I had only recently met Skylar, I had a strong desire for her.

She was mine. The notion of sharing her with another Alpha, let alone my enemy, made my mouth pucker.

When I heard a loud knock in the room, I looked up to see my beta. I sensed him before he knocked, so seeing him didn't surprise me.

"What is it?"

Evelyn's look was hard. "Wolves. Three Wolves from Pale Moon have intruded. "We have them caught."

'Two boys and one girl.' He continued to explain, mind-linking me.

His remarks led me to abandon the chair I was sitting in. "What! Why didn't you tell me sooner?

Evelyn wrinkled his brows and bowed slightly. "I tried to mind-link you but you had me shut out."

I had closed everyone out when Skylar's words had crossed my head. "I see. Was there anything that I should be aware of?

"One of our recently turned pups was hurt, but other than that, everyone else are alright."

'What was the puppy doing there?'The new pups were making rounds. It is their training day.Where are the captured Wolves? They are underground. They are strong, so we put them in the highest protection cells. Did they say why they are here? They mentioned Joseph's pup.

Evelyn's words awoke the Wolf within me, and I growled quietly. I needed to see them for myself. How dare they mention my friend.

"I understand. I'll be with you shortly," I said, dismissing my Beta.

I'll wait for you outside.

Evelyn quickly bowed and the boy walked out the door.

Turning my focus to the person I wanted to protect with every cell in my body, I walked until I was right in front of her.

"I know you are not ecstatic about being here, but you need to listen to me right now."

She did not answer, but she did look at me closely.

"Wolves encroaching on my land indicates that they are a potential threat. I cannot and will not put you in a situation where you could get hurt."

Something flickered in her eyes; she appeared worried one moment and bewildered the next, but she kept mute. I could feel Wolf's presence and had to resist the urge to bring her closer.

"You will stay here until I get back, Skylar," I instructed her, casting a careful glance at her.

She needed to comprehend the significance of my statements. I couldn't defend her unless she was in the pack home.

"I have just found you and cannot risk losing you already."

She looked around before speaking. "Will I be safe here?"

Her question took me off guard. As if I would let anything happen to her, I simply nodded, hoping to bring her peace.

"I would not leave you here if I did not believe it was safe," I assured her.

Skylar remained silent, and I could almost sense her internal conflict with herself. She looked to want to say something but held back. It irritated my Wolf, but I didn't want my mate to be uncomfortable.

It already irritated me that she was also mated with Marcus. How was this ever possible? Wolves battled with one mate, whereas I had two. Even the notion did not make sense.

Then I remembered how Marcus had fed her lies; perhaps this was another one of his. I had to confirm with my friend and was hoping that was the case.

"We'll talk when I get back." There is a lot you want to hear from me, and I'd also like to learn more about your connection with that loser.

The presence of my friend in front of me made me recognise how fortunate I was at that moment. I admired every aspect of her, and the way she looked up at me from her small stature made me want to protect her even more.

I softly placed my palm on her face, a rush of joy racing through my body with the little touch.

"I want you to know that you are safe here," I informed her quietly. "You are not the enemy and never will be. "The pack will adore you as their Luna."

She looked at me with perplexity on her face but did not respond. I could feel her Wolf at bay, and I knew she wanted to dominate, but my little ideal partner would not allow it.

"Wait for me." "I will return to you," I said, stroking her delicate skin with my thumbs.

'Dominic.'

Evelyn's words made me know that I needed to hurry.

Without saying anything else, I drew my mate closer to me and softly covered her lips with mine. It was a short and much-needed kiss.

The electrical energy that flowed from the simple action made me want to stay with her and claim her, but I knew it would put her in danger. I'd return to her once I'd dealt with the enemies.

With that, I darted out of the room.
