Back at the base, the mood was different than usual. The team had grown accustomed to the constant tension of fighting The Shroud, but now there was a quiet sense of victory in the air. Screens flashed with news of The Shroud's downfall, governments across the world reacting to the sudden collapse of the shadowy organization that had held them hostage for so long.
Alyssa sat at her desk, watching the news feed roll in. The world was finally waking up to the reality of the threat they had been facing. Protests had erupted, demanding justice for the crimes committed by The Shroud, and investigations were underway to root out the organization's remaining operatives.
Eleanor entered the room, tossing a folder onto Alyssa's desk. "Reports from the field teams. Cleanup operations are underway."
Alyssa glanced at the folder but didn't open it. "And the rest of The Shroud's network?"
"They're scattered, on the run. Without leadership or resources, they won't last long."
Alyssa leaned back in her chair, exhaling deeply. "It still doesn't feel real."
Eleanor smirked. "It will. Once we get some actual sleep."
Alyssa chuckled. "That might help."
The door to the office opened, and Marcus stepped inside, a grin on his face. "You two should get some rest. But first, we've got something for you."
Alyssa raised an eyebrow. "What?"
Marcus stepped aside, and in walked the remaining members of their team. They carried a bottle of champagne and raised glasses, their faces beaming with pride.
"To Alyssa and Eleanor," Marcus said, holding up his glass. "For taking down The Shroud and saving the damn world."
The room filled with cheers, and Alyssa couldn't help but smile as she raised her glass. For the first time in a long time, she allowed herself to feel the weight of their accomplishment. They had done the impossible, and now they could finally celebrate.
"To the end of The Shroud," Eleanor added, clinking her glass against Alyssa's.
"To new beginnings," Alyssa said softly.
