To be honest, Odin felt his headache worsen just thinking about his two sons. And after seeing Luo Bai, it got even worse.
Both his sons had lived for so long, yet neither of them seemed to grasp the meaning of the word "restraint."
One of them went around brandishing a hammer, bluffing his way through everything, and couldn't function without it. The other constantly schemed for the throne, always eager to prove his strength, even if it meant stabbing his own brother.
Ugh... My heart hurts... My head feels like it's going to explode...
Taking a deep breath, Odin finally calmed himself down. Then, his eyes fell on Luo Bai again.
To be honest, if Odin had the temper he had when he was younger, he would have already dealt with Luo Bai the moment he dared question him. After all, he was the King of the Gods! Being questioned by a junior like this?!
But there was no escaping it—he was getting old now. Ragnarok was looming, just a few years away. If he were to clash with Luo Bai now, he'd only end up making an enemy of the wizarding world.
He was a dying man, soon to be gone, and it would be Thor who would have to face the consequences. Thor still needed to grow, and even with all his strength, he wouldn't be able to contend with the wizards in the coming years.
Besides, the whole issue had stemmed from Loki, and deep down, Odin still had a soft spot for his mischievous son. He had to act wisely in his old age, no longer able to be impulsive like when he was young. He needed to pave the way for Thor's future.
With this in mind, Odin said with a sigh, "Loki isn't evil at heart. He just struggled to accept his true identity and, in his desperation to prove himself, made mistakes."
The once proud and mighty God-King had learned patience with age. He was determined to resolve this situation peacefully, so he continued, "I understand that you were the Ancient One's apprentice. Although Asgard and Kamar-Taj haven't had much contact recently, I had a good relationship with her. As a token of goodwill, I should give you a gift now that you've become the Supreme Mage."
On the surface, Odin was offering a gift, but in reality, he wanted to smooth things over by offering treasures. This was the greatest concession he could make, and Luo Bai understood that.
Though Loki had indeed been at fault, Luo Bai had already restrained him and even confiscated the scepter, which was a small gain in itself. Now that Odin was offering a treasure, and with such a respectful attitude, there was no need to push the issue further.
Knowing when to stop was a valuable skill, so Luo Bai smiled and said, "Thank you, God King."
Odin nodded, then stood up. "I know you possess many magical artifacts at Kamar-Taj, but Asgard has its own share of treasures as well. I will take you to the treasure vault. Aside from the Tesseract, you may take whatever you wish."
Odin had once fought on many battlefields and achieved great victories across the Nine Realms, collecting countless treasures. In fact, he had so many that he could hardly remember them all. He didn't know what exactly would please Luo Bai, so he figured he'd let him choose.
However, Luo Bai wasn't particularly keen on most treasures, except perhaps the Tesseract. But Odin wouldn't let him take that. Besides, Luo Bai already possessed incredibly powerful artifacts—the Eye of Agamotto, the Time Stone, and the Mind Scepter. There wasn't much in Asgard that could surpass those.
As Luo Bai pondered, Odin, noticing his hesitation, tapped his spear on the ground and asked, "What's the holdup?"
Suddenly, Luo Bai seemed to have an idea. "Aside from the Tesseract, can I really choose anything I want?"
Odin frowned, slightly taken aback. Does he think I'm a liar? he thought. I am the King of Gods! What do you take me for? Stingy?
Irritated, Odin replied, "Of course!"
Seeing Odin's impatience, Luo Bai stopped being polite and pointed to the spear in Odin's hand. "Then, I'll take this."
"..."
Odin was visibly stunned. Wait, what?! My spear? You've got guts, kid!
His face darkened, and he asked sternly, "Do you even know what this is?"
"Of course I do. That's why I'm asking for it," Luo Bai replied with a grin.
The spear, Gungnir, was crafted by dwarves at Odin's request. It was razor-sharp, capable of piercing any armor, and a weapon that never missed its target once aimed. Its legendary power helped Odin conquer the Nine Realms, cementing its place as one of the most formidable weapons in existence.
Though it wasn't featured prominently in the original storylines, its strength was undeniable. That said, Odin was clearly reluctant to part with it.
Luo Bai noticed Odin's hesitation and added with a smile, "I know it's your weapon, God King. I figured since it's been in your favor for so long, it must be something special."
Although Luo Bai was pushing his luck, his words flattered Odin, highlighting the King's might and wisdom—certainly better than how his two sons treated him.
Odin chuckled slightly, his mood lifting. "You have good taste. It is indeed an artifact. But this spear has been with me for a long time. You can't have it."
He was essentially telling Luo Bai that Gungnir was too deeply tied to him. Like many enchanted weapons, Gungnir had a connection to its owner. It wouldn't allow itself to be wielded by just anyone, even if taken away.
"You're a mage. You know that most magical weapons recognize their owners. It's better to choose something else," Odin advised.
But Luo Bai was stubborn, and luck often favored him. Smiling confidently, he responded, "Why not let me try?"
Odin frowned, but ultimately decided not to argue. "Fine. Try if you must. But if Gungnir rejects you, you'll have to pick another treasure."
"Deal!" Luo Bai agreed eagerly.
Odin trusted in Gungnir completely. He believed there was no way Luo Bai could take control of it. In fact, Odin had always intended to pass the spear to his sons when the time was right. But even Thor and Loki, despite their Asgardian lineage, hadn't been able to win the spear's favor.
No way a Supreme Mage, not even an Asgardian, could wield it, right? Odin thought.
Feeling pleased, Odin handed the spear to Luo Bai, thinking, Young people really shouldn't be so arrogant. They don't know what they're up against.
As Odin was about to give some fatherly advice, Luo Bai took hold of Gungnir. And then... the spear lit up, glowing with golden light.
Odin fell silent.
Wait.
Was Gungnir... recognizing him?
Recognizing him?!
No... this can't be happening! Odin was completely dumbfounded.
Gungnir, you've gone too far!
