Eliza checked her message and learned her new apartment's location. As she rode the elevator, she sensed something was off. Natalie's phone rang, and her expression darkened.
"I told Uncle Dex about this," Natalie said, halting Eliza's exit as the doors opened. "Get the keys from Camli Hotel, level twenty-two."
Eliza hailed a cab to Camli Hotel, feeling uneasy. As she rode the elevator to the twenty-second floor, she gazed at the panel and silently cursed her luck. "Seriously, why did I even befriend Natalie?"
The elevator stopped, and the doors opened sooner than expected. Eliza's panic hadn't subsided, and she stepped out, her heart still racing.
"Mr. Cooper, Ms. Tanner is here," Baron announced as Eliza appeared at the door. A familiar voice beckoned her inside. "Come in."
Baron gestured for her to enter. Eliza stepped in stiffly, her eyes fixed on Dexter. After inviting her in, he set aside his file and watched her approach. It was just a few steps to his desk, but Eliza seemed to be trudging through quicksand.
As she drew nearer, Dexter noticed she was wearing more makeup than usual. "Sir!" Eliza greeted him politely, forcing a smile.
Dexter leaned back in his chair, crossing his legs elegantly. He propped his elbow on the armrest, supporting his head as he narrowed his eyes at her. The collar of his shirt was slightly apart, and his sleeves were rolled up to his elbow, giving off a relaxed air.
He retrieved a packet of cigarettes from his desk, lit one, and took a puff. Eliza fidgeted uncomfortably under his piercing gaze. "Sir, Natalie told me to take the keys from you. I have no idea what she means."
Here's a polished version:
Eliza took the car key from Dexter, her expression neutral, but her mind racing with confusion. She didn't reveal her puzzlement, simply accepting the key with a quiet "thank you".
Dexter took another puff before explaining, "The real estate company under Next B Corporation has apartments for our employees. Natalie told me about your situation. There are still some units left. You can stay there for a year."
Eliza's eyes widened as understanding dawned on her – the apartment Natalie had helped her move into was practically Dexter's apartment.
"Err, this won't do, Sir," Eliza said, her voice laced with discomfort. "I had no idea Natalie would ask for your help. I won't accept it. Thank you for your concern, but there's no need to trouble you. Sir, I won't disturb you further. I'll inform Natalie about my decision. Goodbye!"
"Ms. Tanner," Dexter called out, his deep voice stopping Eliza in her tracks. He rose from his chair, his eyes locked on hers as he strode toward her.
"I think Ms. Tanner misunderstood," Dexter said. "Ms. Tanner, you don't have to reject it outright. Natalie wants to help you, and I'm merely facilitating that. If you're hesitant to accept her help, talk to her."
Eliza realized that Dexter was simply helping his niece, Natalie, assist her. She also understood that her own words had conveyed an impolite attitude towards him.
Dexter spun on his heels and returned to his seat coolly to resume working. It was obvious he wanted Eliza to leave.
After a brief pause, she mumbled, "Thank you, Sir. I'll leave now."

When Eliza saw the apartment, she was dumbfounded. This was the first time she had ever seen such a luxurious space. Spanning 120m², the fully renovated and furnished living area was enormous. The view was breathtaking, the security was top-notch, and the neighborhood was serene.
"Is this even an apartment?" Eliza thought, amazed. "This is a mansion in D City!"
"How is it?" Natalie inquired, seeking Eliza's opinion.
"Very nice!" Eliza smiled, trying to contain her astonishment. She wanted to discuss the apartment further, but decided against it, not wanting to seem ungrateful. Natalie had clearly put a lot of effort into finding this incredible place for her.
"Right! The car is actually mine. You can use it, I don't need it that much. Besides, I'll be leaving again in a month, so feel free to use it," Natalie said with a smile.
Eliza smiled warmly, her eyes shining with gratitude, but she didn't say a word. Her silence conveyed her appreciation, and Natalie's smile faltered for a moment before she nodded in understanding.
Eliza's plan for a relaxing weekend was disrupted when Natalie unexpectedly showed up to pick her up. As they drove, Natalie dropped a bombshell: "I'll be leaving the day after tomorrow."
Eliza's eyes widened in surprise. "What do you mean? I thought you were on vacation?" she asked, her tone laced with confusion.
As they arrived at their destination, the car came to a stop. Eliza and Natalie stepped out, and a man emerged to greet them. He wore a white shirt, unbuttoned to reveal his chest, and white slacks. His slippers slapped noisily against the ground as he approached.
