The quest for proof

CHAPTER 2 – THE QUEST FOR PROOF

ANNA'S POINT OF VIEW

I swallowed hard as I looked up at him. He stared at me, almost ready to kill me. I was scared to death, with sweat dripping down my face. "I was looking for a toothbrush," I blurted, secretly praying that he would buy my excuse. It was the only thing I could come up with in a split second. "What?' He looked at me puzzled. He gave a short yet sardonic laugh. "A toothbrush! Do you think I keep tooth brushes in my drawers? Why didn't you check the bathroom?" He interrogated. "I checked; there wasn't any in there." I lied to him. "Okay, you should've waited for me to awaken."

"I didn't want to wake you," I defended. "You're a strange woman," he remarked.

"I like to have personal hygiene. My grandma always thought to me that a lady should always groom herself and be fresh as a daisy." I blabbed, looking like a fool.

"If that's the case, I will have one of my staff, bring you one," He couldn't take his eyes off me. "That will be nice," I nodded my head. I breathed a sigh of relief that he believed me. He put on a tracksuit and headed toward the door.

"Where are you going?" I inquired. "For my morning run," he answered. Do you want to join me?" He offered. "No, thanks," I declined. "I thought so," he laughed mockingly. "Maybe tomorrow perhaps," I suggested. "I don't think I would be doing any jogging tomorrow. It's my full moon break." He gave me a wicked smile that gave me the shivers. I knew why he didn't run on the full moon. My chest tightened as I was going to spend the night with him on the full moon.

"How long will you be jogging?" I had to ask, so I know how much time I have to find the proof until he gets back. "An hour, perhaps," he shrugged his shoulders.

"Don't tell me that you miss me already." He pulled me closer to him. "Don't worry honey, after I get back, you will have all my attention." He whispered in my ears, before nibbling my ear lobes.

I was in heat. I wanted him, but I had to resist. He kissed me hard. "Tell you what? Meet me for breakfast in an hour. I will have someone send up a pretty dress for you." I almost forgot that I didn't pack any clothes for the weekend. I was naked. "All right," I nodded. "Make yourself all pretty when you meet me okay," he ordered. He kissed me once more. My head was spinning for lust for him. "Ill see you at the terrace,' he winked at me before leaving.

I was finally left alone to do my own thing. I was lucky that he wasn't suspicious of me. I waited a while before I started looking through his belongings. I only had an hour. I ransacked the entire suite; there was nothing to be found. I covered myself with a blanket, and I went to his office, undetected, to search for a password to his computer. It was obvious that he wouldn't leave any clues around for anyone to find. I had to abandon the search and find another way to gain the evidence.

Drake was going to be back soon, so I went to have a shower.

I walked into the terrace and saw him sitting and waiting for me to arrive. "It took you long enough," he smirked as he laid his newspaper on the table with the murders of last month on the front page. I felt a little scared knowing that I could be next. "You look nice," he complemented. "Thank you for the dress," I said. "I'm glad you like

it. I had one of my female staff pick it out for you."

"I do, but there's one thing your staff member, forgot to add was underwear." I informed him. "Well, that wasn't a mistake since I specifically told her not to get you any," he said, giving me a devilish grin. "Oh," I covered my mouth.

" Don't worry about underwear you won't be needing any this weekend," he said in a hoarse tone. He eyed me sheepishly. "There's a lot more pleasure that's coming later at my mansion in the woods," he announced. My pulse rate grew rapidly. I can't possibly go with him to an isolated place. I had to. It was the only way since I needed solid evidence against him.

"What time are we leaving?" I wanted to know if we were going to be there before dusk. "Whenever you're ready, my dear," he said, casually as he shrugged his shoulders. "Why don't we go now?" I dared him. He picked his

head up from his phone and gave me a curious gaze. "Do you want to go now?"

"Yes, why not?" I wanted to get this over and done with. I was infatuated with this man. I shouldn't since I came here for an assignment.

He gave me a wicked smile. "I know you want to experience all the kinky stuff; I got to offer, but do you want to go without any clothes?" Oh shoot! Yes! I didn't have any clothes, let alone any underwear on. "Sorry, I forgot about clothes. Maybe I can swing by my apartment and get the rest of my clothes," I suggested. He gave me a disapproving look. "I don't think so.

You are my property this weekend, so I want you to wear what I choose for you. I want sexy, like the dress I got you. I tell you what? I will take you shopping. We'll get massages and a bite to eat, then head out."

He told me. It seemed like he had the entire day mapped out, and I had to be okay with it.

"It sounds like a good plan," I uttered. It was not like he cared whether I approved or not. It was more like an order, like how rich men treated their subordinates. Maybe I was one for this weekend. "Good to know," he retorted. "Shall we finish the rest of our breakfast? Or would you like another omelette since this one is cold?" He instructed one of his staff to make us new ones since they were cold.

It was evening before he decided to leave for his mansion in the woods. I was petrified to go, but I sucked it in and put on a brave face. We finally arrived. I looked around with my heart literally in my mouth. "This place is huge," I told him with my eyes widening as we walked further in. "It's pretty cold," I remarked as I sat down.

"It can get pretty cold here during this time. Don't worry, I'll make us a fire. But I need to get some wood, so wait in here and don't go out," he warned me.

"When will you be back?" I was dead scared to stay here alone.

"I won't be long," he assured me. "I don't want to stay here by myself. Can I come along with you?" I pleaded with him. He pulled his breath. "It is cold outside, and besides, you're not wearing any underwear. Trust me, you will be safer here."

"It's cold in here as well," I countered.

"Listen to me!" he exclaimed as he glared at me. "You will be much safer in here. There's some blankets in the cupboard. It will keep you warm in the meantime time. There's also a flash light in the drawer. I promise I will only be an hour." He was adamant that I stay in the mansion for reasons I suspected.

"Is there any power up here?" I asked him in a scared voice. "No, there isn't. There is a generator that I will run after I gather the wood. I need to leave now, before it gets dark, so I need you to do as I say. Relax and wait here, until I return." He ordered me in a stern voice. "Very well," I nodded and took a seat. Drake left.

I took my phone to check if there was any signal. I was in luck that there was, or else I would be in deep trouble. I messaged Colonel James Smith, one of the committee members. I sent him a location. He would know if I ended up dead; they would know where to find my body or remains. The moon was already out. It seeped through the windows, brightening the place.

I took the flash light out and looked around the room to see what I could find. I wanted to take out pictures and send them to Colonel James. That would be some evidence if Drake kills me. My hands shivered as I took out as many pictures as I could. The photos were blurred because it was dark.

My whole body turned to ice when I heard a wolf howl. I cried with fear jolting throughout me. The howls were getting louder. My heart beat faster. My legs turned into jelly. I was stuck. I couldn't run. My life flashed before my eyes. The door opened as I prayed for my dear life. It was what I had expected. My life was going to come to an end. I gave out a bloodcurdling scream as loud as I could, but it fell into deaf ears.
