The Training Hall

"Unohana-taichō, can you teach me Zanjutsu?"

Saikyō asked, his eyes burning with determination.

That's right! After mastering Kaidō, Saikyō set his next goal—Yachiru-style Zanjutsu!

The legendary Yachiru-style Zanjutsu is said to encompass all sword schools in the world. In the world of the Shinigami, where combat is dominated by cutting techniques, this is considered the pinnacle of swordsmanship.

And Unohana-senpai, as its creator, is undoubtedly one of the greatest swordsmen, possessing unparalleled mastery in Zanjutsu.

Once he could train under her and learn even the most basic techniques, Saikyō knew his swordsmanship would improve by leaps and bounds, skyrocketing his combat power.

Having earned the favor of Unohana-senpai, Saikyō knew he couldn't pass up such a rare opportunity!

Of course, if other Shinigami were present—like Kotetsu-fukutaichō—they would definitely reprimand Saikyō for his boldness, calling his request impudent.

After all, making such a request on his first day in the Fourth Division was a bit improper. Unohana-senpai's squad was always busy, and there were many Shinigami under her. If everyone made such demands, it could easily disrupt the division's order.

"Are you asking to practice Zanjutsu?"

Instead of reprimanding him, Unohana-taichō hesitated for a moment and curiously asked Saikyō.

"Unohana-taichō, besides Kidō, my other strength lies in cutting techniques. My Zanpakutō—Yan Mo—reflects this combat style," Saikyō answered honestly.

Yan Mo, the Dark Scythe.

This enormous scythe, engraved with death symbols, had an edge as sharp as any blade. More importantly, it emitted a dark, ominous aura that perfectly aligned with the sinister energy of Yachiru-style Zanjutsu.

Not to mention that Yan Mo also possessed multiple elemental abilities. Under these circumstances, Saikyō believed Yachiru-style Zanjutsu was tailor-made for him.

He had to seize this chance, no matter what!

"I never would've guessed you're skilled with the blade."

Unohana-taichō smiled gently, surprised. "The Shihōin clan has always specialized in stealth and assassination. That's their legacy."

"Unohana-taichō, I am different from my sister, Yoruichi. Otherwise, I wouldn't have chosen to join the Fourth Division." Saikyō responded with determination.

In truth, Saikyō could have easily used his connections. He could have joined the Second Division under Yoruichi, quickly rising through the ranks and becoming an officer without much effort.

But that wasn't what he wanted.

The world of Shinigami, dominated by Zanpakutō, revolves around the blade. Choosing the path of Zanjutsu and aspiring to become a master swordsman was Saikyō's true goal.

"It's rare to hear someone like you say that..."

"Usually, the divisions tied to the great noble families follow a hereditary system, where the captain's role is passed down through generations. The Kuchiki clan has done this with the Sixth Division for many years, and so has your Second Division."

As one of the oldest Shinigami, Unohana-taichō knew the history of the Gotei 13 better than anyone.

"With your talent, Saikyō-kun, if you had joined the Second Division, you could have easily taken Yoruichi's place in the future. Was there no temptation for you?" she asked, curious.

She wanted to understand his motivations.

"Whether I become captain or not doesn't matter. What I care about is personal strength, not status or fame," Saikyō confessed his true feelings.

After all, even the strongest positions can be meaningless if one's power isn't enough.

Take the Visored, for example. Each one was a former captain-level Shinigami, but they were still persecuted by Aizen's schemes in the "Hollowfication Incident," forcing them into exile for centuries.

Once they defected, their previous glory and status meant nothing.

In the end, it's strength that matters!

"I understand..."

"Saikyō-kun, not only is your talent incredible, but your mindset is also quite impressive," Unohana-taichō said, her fondness for him deepening.

First impressions are often the most crucial step in forging connections, and Saikyō had clearly succeeded in winning over Unohana-senpai.

"Unohana-taichō, does that mean you won't refuse my request?" Saikyō boldly asked.

From her expressions, Saikyō was 80% sure Unohana-senpai would agree. The only uncertainty was whether her busy schedule would allow it.

However, Unohana-taichō pleasantly surprised him.

"Saikyō-kun, I can feel your strong desire to master Zanjutsu," Unohana-taichō said with a gentle smile. "Since I have some free time, you can practice both Kaidō and Zanjutsu with me."

"It's done!"

Saikyō couldn't hide his joy. The weight he felt instantly lifted.

With Unohana-senpai agreeing, he was sure she would teach him with all her expertise.

"As for the training grounds, come with me," Unohana-taichō said thoughtfully, standing up from her desk.

Saikyō followed closely behind her as they left the division office.

---

After walking through winding corridors for some time, they arrived at their destination.

"No one has been here for a long time, huh?" Saikyō asked, observing the environment curiously.

The area was desolate—fallen leaves, rotting roots, and thick layers of soil covered the ground. The entire place looked abandoned, giving off an air of solitude.

"Saikyō-kun."

"Do you see that dojo over there? That's where we'll be training from now on."

At the end of Unohana-taichō's gaze stood an old, weathered dojo. The building's walls were crumbling, and the structure looked as though it might collapse at any moment.

Branches and leaves covered the entrance, adding to its dilapidated appearance. The dojo, worn down by time, appeared insignificant at first glance.

But this abandoned hall was where Saikyō would train in Zanjutsu.

If he was to become a master swordsman, this was where it would all begin.
