Selene’s POV
The news of my father's injury struck deep, resurrecting old wounds of his betrayal and banishment. He was the man who had raised me, instilled values and strength, yet also the one who had cast me out. Despite the layers of hurt, the news left me reeling, compelled by a bond that refused to break.
“Selene, this isn’t a good idea,” John cautioned as I prepared to leave. His concern was evident, his protective stance unwavering. “Remember, your father exiled you. This could be dangerous—or a trap.”
I paused, the possibility hanging heavy but undeniable. “I can’t ignore this, John. He’s my father. No matter what’s happened, I need to see him.”
John’s jaw set firmly. “Then I’m coming with you. I won’t let you face this alone.”
“No, John. I need to do this alone,” I insisted. “Bringing a protector might provoke them and make things worse. This is a family matter.”
