Chapter 8: Silence Can't Be Bought

Nadia’s POV

The day started off normal enough, with the usual morning chaos of Noble High buzzing around me. I was at my locker, sorting through my books, when I felt it—the shift in the air. A sudden hush fell over the crowd, like the calm before a storm. I glanced up, and there he was—Mason Gray, cutting through the sea of students with that confident, arrogant stride of his. He was heading straight for me, and my stomach twisted with a mix of curiosity and dread.

“Mason, what do you want?” I muttered under my breath, bracing myself for whatever was about to come. He stopped in front of me, and to my surprise, he didn’t launch into one of his usual sarcastic remarks or condescending smiles. Instead, his expression was serious, almost dark.

“You. I need to talk to you,” he said flatly, not bothering to lower his voice. Heads turned. Whispers spread like wildfire. I could feel the eyes of the entire hallway on us.
