Chapter 30: Ethan Returns

Nadia’s POV

The car ride to school the next day with Jasper felt like a blur. He was talking—about school, about something Aiden had done—but I wasn’t really listening. I sat in the front seat, nodding and offering the occasional "yeah" or "right" when I had to, but my mind was elsewhere. My thoughts kept drifting back to last night, to Mason. The way he’d pulled me out of the pool, the way he’d looked at me, his touch. I could still feel the warmth of his hands even now, and the memory of it made my heart race.

I didn’t know why I couldn’t shake it. Mason had always been there, always looming in the background, but something shifted last night. The way he’d been so... protective, so intense, like I mattered in a way I wasn’t used to. It was confusing. And I hated that it was confusing.

“Are you even listening to me?” Jasper asked, shooting me a look from the driver’s seat.

“Yeah, yeah, totally,” I mumbled, though I couldn’t even remember the last thing he’d said.
