Nadia POV
Jasper leaned against my locker, looking exhausted. I shoved my books inside, trying to ignore the tension building in my chest. Things had been spiraling lately, and it felt like everything was slipping out of control.
“Mason gave up,” Jasper said quietly.
I paused. “What do you mean?”
“The hockey rematch with Ethan. He was going to win. Everyone knew it. But he just... let it go.”
I shut my locker, harder than I intended. “Why?”
Jasper shrugged. “I think it has to do with you. You’ve rejected him enough times. Maybe he didn’t want to keep fighting.”
Guilt crept in. I hadn’t expected him to back down like that. “I didn’t ask him to give up.”
“He didn’t do it for you. He did it for himself,” Jasper said, his tone certain.
I sighed, the reality of it sinking in. “And Ethan?”
