191. Can't Lose to the Southerners

Think about it, my lords! A carriage as luxurious and comfortable as this, with its superior craftsmanship, is bound to become a favorite among the elites of Westeros.

"If you place an order now, you'll have the privilege of enjoying it before the great lords of the South—even before the kings and royal ministers of King's Landing. What are you waiting for? Hurry up and place your order!"

Jason Liu's voice grew louder, carrying an irresistible allure. His words were carefully chosen, and when he mentioned the idea of owning such a magnificent carriage before the powerful nobles of the South, it ignited a competitive fire among the gathered lords. The great lords of the North, who took pride in their strength and despised the arrogance of the Southerners, found themselves deeply tempted.

Many nobles clenched their fists, their expressions eager. The thought of enjoying such luxury before the so-called "civilized" Southern lords was simply too good to pass up.

"Lord Jason, I'll take four—two large carriages and two smaller ones! Make them as soon as possible. Once I return to White Harbor, I'll send someone with the payment immediately!"

Lord Wyman Manderly, the wealthiest noble in the North and the ruler of White Harbor, did not hesitate. He raised his plump fingers, his voice booming with enthusiasm. "Write it down—I want four carriages!"

Jason Liu smiled, nodding in agreement. "Of course, Lord Wyman. Your two large and two small carriages will be produced as soon as possible. By the time your men arrive from White Harbor, they will find them ready and waiting."

Turning to Jon Snow, who was handling the records, Jason instructed, "Jon, make a note—Lord Wyman Manderly has ordered two large and two small carriages."

Since Boris was busy discussing medical knowledge with the maesters, Jon Snow had been assigned the task of keeping track of orders. As one of the few who could write proficiently, he had little choice but to do it.

Jason then turned to the gathered nobles. "I should also mention that since I don't know what kind of family decorations each of you might prefer, all the carriages will be delivered without any emblems or ornamentation. That way, you can personalize them however you like once they reach your castles."

He had no intention of asking the craftsmen at the Carriage Factory to carve the sigils of every noble family in the North—or worse, every noble house in Westeros. That would be suspicious and time-consuming. Instead, he presented it as a thoughtful gesture.

"I want to make sure you are fully satisfied with your carriages," Jason added smoothly. "This way, you have complete freedom to decorate them however you see fit."

His reasoning made perfect sense to the Northern lords. They appreciated the consideration and were even more pleased with Jason's customer service. Many looked at him with newfound respect, thinking, This young Lord is truly meticulous. No wonder he is a noble from the faraway Empire.

Seeing the positive response, the other lords quickly followed suit, unwilling to be left behind.

"Lord Jason, House Cerwyn will order two large carriages and one small carriage!" announced Lord Medger Cerwyn.

Lord Umber was quick to follow. "I'll take the same—two large carriages and one small one!"

The large carriages were clearly favored by the Northern men, who saw them as a symbol of status and masculinity. Smaller carriages, on the other hand, were viewed as more suitable for women and children.

Lady Lyessa Flint of Widow's Watch placed her own order. "House Flint will take one large carriage and two small ones!"

Lady Barbrey Dustin of Barrowton, ever proud and unwilling to be outdone, declared, "House Dustin will order two large carriages and two small ones!"

Lord Rickard Ryswell of Rills lifted his chin and said firmly, "House Ryswell will take two large carriages and one small carriage. I trust that by the time I send my men with the payment, our order will be ready, Lord Jason."

Jason grinned. "Of course, Lord Rickard. I guarantee that your family's carriages will be waiting for you."

Other orders quickly followed:

"House Tallhart of Torrhen's Square orders two large carriages and one small one!" Lord Helman Tallhart declared.

"House Hornwood will also take two large carriages and one small one!" announced Lord Halys Hornwood.

"House Glover of Deepwood Motte orders two large carriages and one small one!" declared Lord Galbart Glover, though his heart ached at the expense. Deepwood Motte was not as wealthy as some of the other houses, but he couldn't afford to be seen as falling behind. If the other lords are buying three, how can I not?

Lady Maege Mormont of Bear Island hesitated, glancing at her daughter, Dacey, who was looking at her expectantly. Unlike the others, Bear Island was a harsh and poor land. Even the Glover family of Deepwood was better off. She struggled for a moment, then sighed and made her decision.

"House Mormont will order one large carriage and one small carriage!"

None of the other nobles were surprised. Everyone knew that Bear Island was not wealthy, and they respected Lady Maege's practicality.

Jason Liu nodded, satisfied. In a short time, he had secured numerous orders, proving that his strategy had worked. The Northern lords might be rough and straightforward, but they were still men of pride. Offering them an opportunity to gain an advantage over their Southern rivals was more than enough to open their purses.

As Jon Snow diligently recorded the orders, Jason could not help but smile to himself. This business venture is already proving more successful than I expected.
