In the eastern region of the Jia Ma Empire lies the Black-Corner Region, an area infamous for its lawlessness. This region, vast enough to resemble a small country, stands as a unique domain beyond the influence of the Jia Nan Academy.
Unlike other nations, the Black-Corner Region lacks any unifying royal family or centralized rule, with countless factions large and small constantly vying for dominance. This perpetual chaos has given the region a dark reputation across the continent, yet it is precisely this instability that attracts countless powerful figures drawn by the allure of rare high-tier cultivation methods, Dou techniques, pills, and other priceless items that flow into this area.
After detecting the presence of the Hall of Souls, Mo Yu and Xiao Yan decided to part ways, planning to reunite later at the Jia Nan Academy. Traveling separately offered a greater chance of avoiding the Hall of Souls, whose members sought both Yao Lao and She Lao.
Mo Yu was more than pleased with this arrangement. After all, staying with Xiao Yan—this realm's "child of fate"—would mean sharing not only troubles but also opportunities. Here in the Black-Corner Region, the possibilities for rare treasures and fortuitous encounters were endless. He recalled how, in the original story, Xiao Yan's strength advanced rapidly here, setting the stage for his rise.
The Black-Corner Region was far from the Jia Ma Empire, requiring several smaller nations to be crossed to reach its outskirts. This journey would take months by foot or carriage. However, Mo Yu had his Purple Cloud Wings, allowing him to fly despite the immense Dou Qi consumption. Thanks to his dominant Heavenly Thunder Body, he managed a fine balance between Dou Qi depletion and recovery, sustaining continuous flight.
After roughly seven to eight days of tireless travel since parting with Xiao Yan, Mo Yu arrived at the Black Plains, the gateway to the Black-Corner Region. He swiftly dealt with a few opportunistic idiots attempting to target him as an outsider, demonstrating his strength. Seeing this, a sharp-eyed merchant caravan quickly approached, hoping to enlist his protection.
The Black Plains were notorious for black storms so severe that even Dou Ling or Dou Wang cultivators dared not face them alone. Traveling with an experienced merchant caravan was essential, and Mo Yu was promptly invited by the caravan's leader, Ge Duo, who had witnessed his strength.
Not long after, Mo Yu sat cross-legged in a slightly bumpy carriage, facing Ge Duo. Though the caravan's original guard captain resented Mo Yu's sudden inclusion, a single blow from Mo Yu quickly humbled him. Impressed, Ge Duo invited Mo Yu into his carriage, grateful to have such a powerful guard, especially in this treacherous region.
At one point, Ge Duo pulled out a yellowed map and spread it on the table, pointing at a red dot. "This is our destination, Di Yan City. If we keep this pace, we should reach it by tomorrow afternoon."
"Di Yan City?" Mo Yu raised an eyebrow at the name.
"The Black-Corner Region is largely divided among powerful factions. While they still compete over territory, there likely won't be significant changes anytime soon," Ge Duo explained tactfully.
"Our destination, Di Yan City, falls under the control of the 'Di Yan Sect,' one of the Black-Corner Region's oldest and most powerful factions. Its leader, Yan, is rumored to rank among the region's top ten on the Black Ranking. This time, the Di Yan Sect is hosting an auction in Di Yan City, where they plan to sell their sect's specialty, the Fire Spark Stone."
Hearing this, Mo Yu recalled an important detail from the original story. Han Feng, Yao Lao's traitorous disciple, had gathered various Black-Corner Region factions to form the Black Alliance against Xiao Yan, and Di Yan Sect was among its members. Unsurprisingly, the Black Alliance would eventually meet a grim end opposing Xiao Yan.
However, Mo Yu's thoughts were fixed on the Fire Spark Stone. As Ge Duo departed, She Lao's voice sounded in Mo Yu's mind, "What's on your mind, kid? Got plans for the auction?"
Mo Yu chuckled, "Nothing escapes you, She Lao. I am indeed interested, primarily because the Fire Spark Stone is a necessary ingredient for crafting the Spirit-Merging Holy Chalice."
"Spirit-Merging Holy Chalice?" She Lao asked, surprised.
"The Spirit-Merging Holy Chalice is an artifact from the mysterious inheritance I received. It can aid in restoring and enhancing one's spiritual strength and even address spiritual issues, making it ideal for helping Queen Medusa integrate her spirit and body," Mo Yu explained.
"Oh? I didn't realize the chalice had such remarkable effects. I should thank you on behalf of little Medusa," She Lao replied with a hint of amazement.
"There's no need for thanks. Queen Medusa did her part during the Yun Lan Sect battle. Even without considering our connection through you, She Lao, helping her is only fair," Mo Yu said, smiling.
Long before he'd agreed to help She Lao with Queen Medusa, Mo Yu had planned this. In his past life, he'd been a master craftsman, skilled in creating all manner of artifacts. The Spirit-Merging Holy Chalice, a sixth-grade artifact renowned for enhancing spiritual strength, was invaluable. While it required rare materials, the Black-Corner Region was the perfect place to search for them.
Unlike one-time-use pills, the Spirit-Merging Holy Chalice could continue to serve him even after resolving Queen Medusa's issue. As his Dou Qi cultivation progressed, he would need this artifact to balance his spiritual strength.
For now, however, this was merely a plan. He'd just arrived in the Black-Corner Region, and there was much to gather before refining the chalice. He was unfazed by the challenges ahead—after all, establishing a foothold here was only the first step.
Thanks to Ge Duo's seasoned crew, the caravan journeyed safely across the plains, encountering neither black storms nor bandits. By noon the next day, the bleak black plains gave way to green, a sight that brought a sigh of relief to the caravan's guards. Leaving the plains behind meant safer passage, as the cities here were controlled by local factions, ensuring at least a semblance of order.
In the Black-Corner Region, order was defined by strength. The rule of the strong was an eternal truth, though here it was unashamedly blatant.
Lifting the carriage curtain, Mo Yu stood and stretched, watching as the caravan moved out of the plains.
"Fortunately, we avoided the savage black bandits this time, and my goods remain untouched," Ge Duo remarked with relief, a smile of satisfaction on his face. "Here's your reward, Mr. Mo Yu," he added, handing over a pouch of coins, albeit with a wry smile.
"No need. We each took what we needed from the arrangement," Mo Yu replied with a wave.
The caravan continued at a slower pace, winding along a mountain road for a couple more hours. By afternoon, a city constructed of red stones appeared at the mountain's foot, its shadowed silhouette visible in the distance. Dense crowds like ants swarmed toward the city's towering red gates.
"Mr. Mo Yu, that is Di Yan City. Due to the auction these past days, numerous factions and powerful figures have gathered here. Rumor has it that even some Di-class Dou Techniques will be up for auction," Ge Duo said, standing beside Mo Yu.
Hearing this, Mo Yu smiled, amused by the region's notorious underground market. Such high-tier Dou Techniques would be nearly impossible to find in the Jia Ma Empire.
The Black-Corner Region—he'd come to the right place!
"Let's go," Ge Duo commanded, and the caravan charged down the mountain, a trail of dust following them toward the vast city below.
"Hope it doesn't disappoint," Mo Yu murmured, looking at the growing city with curiosity and anticipation.
