As Qi Shan made his appearance, the chatter among the alchemists in the hall quickly died down. Those with slightly higher cultivation looked visibly uneasy.
On stage, Yao Fangzhu froze for a moment before a warm smile graced her face. She swiftly descended to greet the red-faced elder, her voice laced with charm. "Ah, it's Senior Qi gracing us with your presence. I thought the Thousand Medicinal Pavilion's grand exchange meeting might be too small an affair for someone as busy as you."
Qi Shan let out a hearty laugh, his voice booming. "Heh, Yao Fangzhu, you flatter me. The Thousand Medicinal Pavilion's herbs are extraordinary, even this old man can't resist. Besides, gatherings like this exchange are rare. No matter how busy I am, I had to take a look."
His laughter was so loud that many in the hall frowned slightly but refrained from speaking due to his reputation and background in Black Emperor City.
"Senior Qi, it's our honor to have you here. Fortunately, the exchange hasn't officially started. Please, take the seat of honor." Yao Fangzhu gestured invitingly with a smile.
Without hesitation, Qi Shan strode toward the main table and casually seated himself in the most prominent chair. His gaze swept across the room before briefly lingering on Mo Yu, who sat nearby. For reasons he couldn't explain, he felt an unsettling sense of familiarity from the black-robed figure.
"Yao Fangzhu, who is this person? I've never seen him at the Thousand Medicinal Pavilion before," Qi Shan asked, his brows furrowing as he pointed at Mo Yu.
Following his gesture, Yao Fangzhu's gaze landed on Mo Yu, and she hesitated slightly before explaining with some difficulty, "Senior Qi, he is not an alchemist but holds a VIP token issued by our pavilion, granting him access to the second floor. As per our rules, I cannot disclose his identity to outsiders."
Qi Shan's face darkened at her reply, and he snorted coldly. "So, Yao Fangzhu sees me as an outsider now? After all these years of patronizing your pavilion, it seems my efforts were in vain."
Internally, Yao Fangzhu cursed him.
This old scoundrel! Every time he came, he used his influence to intimidate competitors, causing the pavilion significant losses, yet he dared to claim he was a loyal customer. What a shameless old thief!
Suppressing her frustration, Yao Fangzhu quickly returned to the stage, her smile reappearing as she began to officiate the exchange meeting.
Seated at a less conspicuous spot, Mo Yu's gaze remained fixed on Qi Shan. Observing him for a while, he confirmed that Qi Shan held considerable influence in Black Emperor City and was well-regarded in the Black-Corner Region. However, among alchemists, Qi Shan seemed widely disliked.
Even Yao Fangzhu appeared to tolerate him only due to his authority.
This was advantageous. Qi Shan's poor standing among the alchemists would make Mo Yu's plan easier to execute.
As Mo Yu mulled over his thoughts, the exchange officially commenced. Alchemists examined the herbs displayed, stepping forward to exchange their pills when they found something of interest. The value of the exchanged pills had to match that of the herbs.
However, none of the displayed herbs caught Mo Yu's attention. Their quality was mediocre, and they were of no use to him.
As time passed, the inferior herbs were gradually exchanged, giving way to higher-quality ones. The more experienced alchemists, who had been sitting idly, finally began to show interest and stepped forward to negotiate trades.
Eventually, only a handful of jade boxes remained on the stone platform. The intense medicinal fragrance emanating from them indicated their exceptional quality.
Yao Fangzhu smiled as her gaze swept the hall, landing momentarily on Mo Yu. She clapped her hands lightly, signaling for her attendants to bring out the final five jade boxes, which gleamed like emeralds.
As soon as the boxes appeared, the rich aroma of the herbs inside filled the hall. Many alchemists inhaled deeply, their faces showing astonishment.
Even Qi Shan, who had been reclining in his chair, straightened up, his eyes gleaming with interest as they fixed on the jade boxes.
"These five herbs represent the pinnacle of our Thousand Medicinal Pavilion's collection. We spared no effort in acquiring them," Yao Fangzhu announced with a smile. "If anyone is interested, now is the time to make your offers."
Mo Yu's indifferent gaze sharpened as his eyes locked onto the final jade box. His discerning eye immediately identified its contents: the Emperor Origin Blood Essence Fruit, a rare medicine capable of restoring bloodline power.
Memories of the past flashed through his mind. Back in the Jia Ma Empire, it was this very herb that had restored She Lao's bloodline strength, allowing him to unleash Dou Zong-level power in the Yun Lan Sect battle. Without it, Mo Yu might have met his end in that confrontation.
Excitement flickered in his silver eyes. He had come to deal with Qi Shan but had stumbled upon an unexpected treasure.
Under the watchful eyes of the hall, Mo Yu stood and walked toward the stone platform.
His action drew all attention. The herbs' quality demanded at least fourth-grade or fifth-grade pills for an exchange. Could this seemingly young man meet such a high bar?
Standing before the platform, Mo Yu offered Yao Fangzhu a faint smile, his hand hovering over the final jade box. "Yao Fangzhu, what price must I pay for this Emperor Origin Blood Essence Fruit?"
Yao Fangzhu smiled sweetly, about to respond, when her expression abruptly changed.
A large hand suddenly reached from behind Mo Yu, pressing firmly on the jade box. A loud, commanding voice echoed through the hall.
"I'll take this Emperor Origin Blood Essence Fruit."
The unexpected move stunned the audience. When they saw the hand's owner, their expressions shifted, many looking at Mo Yu with sympathy.
Mo Yu's eyes turned playful as he stared at the hand on the box. A thought crossed his mind: The heavens open a path for none, but you've barged straight into the gates of hell.
Mo Yu's original target had been Qi Shan. The Emperor Origin Blood Essence Fruit was a fortunate discovery. Now that Qi Shan had intervened, their confrontation was inevitable.
"Senior Qi, this gentleman acted first. Aren't you breaking the rules?" Yao Fangzhu said with a strained smile.
Qi Shan's face darkened, his tone turning cold. "Yao Fangzhu, this is an auction. The highest bidder wins. Why does order matter here?"
Forced to acquiesce, Yao Fangzhu nodded reluctantly, silently cursing him in her heart.
Qi Shan was notoriously stingy in the Black-Corner Region, so it was unlikely he would exchange anything valuable for the Emperor Origin Blood Essence Fruit.
Naturally, Qi Shan was oblivious to Yao Fangzhu's internal cursing. Shifting his gaze, he looked at the person in front of him, Mo Yu, and said with a seemingly polite smile:
"Hehe, my friend, this old man is Qi Shan. I'm currently refining a pill and happen to need an Emperor Origin Blood Essence Fruit. I wonder if you could part with it?"
Although Qi Shan's words appeared to be a negotiation, his large hand gripping the jade box didn't relax at all. Instead, it subtly edged the box closer to him.
Hearing Qi Shan speak, many eyes in the hall turned to Mo Yu, filled with sympathy.
Poor fellow. How unlucky to clash with this old bully Qi Shan. Everyone in Black Sovereign City knew that Qi Shan loved to flaunt his authority.
Under the watchful gazes of the crowd, Mo Yu remained silent for a moment before placing his hand on the jade box containing the Emperor Origin Blood Essence Fruit. Slowly, he pulled it closer to himself.
"Oh? Qi Shan, is it? Too bad I don't even take Han Feng seriously. What's the name Qi Shan worth to me? This Emperor Origin Blood Essence Fruit is mine, and I won't be giving it up."
As Mo Yu's words fell, the hall fell into a brief silence. Even Yao Fangzhu's beautiful eyes flashed with surprise.
She hadn't expected this seemingly young man to not only outright reject Qi Shan's demand but also to completely disregard him.
In the now-quiet hall, Qi Shan's expression froze momentarily. His gaze darkened as he turned to Mo Yu, his voice brimming with anger: "Hmph, hiding your identity and daring to spout such arrogance.
Han Feng is recognized as the Medicine Emperor of the Black-Corner Region and the third strongest in the Black Rankings. How dare someone as sneaky as you insult him?"
Despite his harsh words, Qi Shan's heart tightened slightly. The mysterious aura radiating from the black-robed figure, combined with the faintly familiar voice, filled him with an unsettling premonition.
But he quickly dismissed his hesitation. As the chief alchemist of the Black Emperor Sect, he wouldn't let a mysterious figure intimidate him.
With that thought, Qi Shan sneered and turned to Yao Fangzhu. "I recall that the grand exchange meeting allows bidding, correct?
Here is a 'Windwalker Pill,' a fifth-grade pill that grants a temporary burst of speed. If someone is being pursued, this pill could save their life.
This boastful brat likely can't produce anything comparable, so the Emperor Origin Blood Essence Fruit should be mine."
Qi Shan sneered as he retrieved a jade bottle from his storage ring and placed it on the table.
Yao Fangzhu hesitated slightly before carefully taking the jade bottle and handing it to the white-haired elder beside her.
The elder inspected the pill's color and scent, then nodded lightly, saying, "It is indeed a fifth-grade Windwalker Pill."
Hearing this, Qi Shan sneered coldly. Reaching out, he tried to snatch the jade box in front of Mo Yu.
However, just as his hand stretched out, another hand intercepted him. A playful voice rang out, "Aren't you a bit too impatient? I haven't even spoken yet."
Qi Shan's gaze chilled as he looked up, meeting a pair of silver eyes under the black robe. His face stiffened before he asked coldly, "Who are you? Do you intend to offend the Black Emperor Sect?"
Mo Yu smirked, "Thanks for the warning. But as I said, I don't even care about the Black Alliance. Why would I care about offending the Black Emperor Sect?"
Hearing this, Qi Shan scoffed but suddenly froze, his mind racing to recall the silver eyes. His expression changed dramatically as he exclaimed, "You… you're—"
Before he could finish, an intense surge of energy assaulted him from behind.
Caught off guard, Qi Shan hesitated before his expression turned grim. With a cold snort, he unleashed a vast surge of fiery dou qi, erupting like a volcano to counter the attack.
A muffled explosion echoed in the hall, followed by a burst of energy ripples, forcing everyone to retreat.
All eyes turned toward the black-robed figure enveloped in a dense purple-golden energy. Sensing the overwhelming power of his dou qi, several onlookers gasped.
"Dou Zong?"
The alchemists on the second floor exchanged glances, sensing the growing tension. Realizing it was time to leave, they quickly bid farewell to Yao Fangzhu and descended the stairs.
In moments, only Yao Fangzhu, the white-haired elder, Mo Yu, and Qi Shan remained on the second floor.
Having barely withstood the attack, Qi Shan suppressed the surging blood within him and turned with a horrified expression toward the mysterious black-robed figure.
"A Dou Zong expert? Who are you? Why are you targeting me?"
As his words fell, both Yao Fangzhu and the white-haired elder stared in shock at the figure radiating purple-golden energy. This young-sounding man was actually a Dou Zong?
"Hehe, Elder Qi Shan, don't you recognize me?"
With a chuckle, the black-robed figure pulled back his hood, revealing a devilishly handsome face.
Qi Shan stared at the familiar features and those distinctive silver eyes. His face stiffened as realization dawned. Clenching his teeth, he growled,
"It's you… the head of Yuan Manor, Mo Yu!"
