"Mo Yu?"
Hearing this name, the members of the Yun Lan Sect and the city guards were momentarily stunned. Then, as their eyes caught sight of the young man's striking silver pupils, a long-buried memory surged to the surface. A realization struck them like lightning, dragging out thoughts they hadn't entertained in years.
The elder of Yun Lan Sect lifted his gaze toward the silver-eyed youth. His pupils dilated in shock as his voice trembled with disbelief. "Mo Yu, you… you're Mo Yu!"
Only then did their eyes fall upon the black-robed youth beside him. Upon recognizing that somewhat familiar face, their expressions turned even more incredulous. "And him—he's Xiao Yan! You're… the Xiao Clan Twin Dragons!"
The Xiao Clan Twin Dragons! A title that had faded into obscurity over the past three years was suddenly resurrected. Along with it came memories of certain events and individuals from that time, surging back into the minds of those present.
All around, stunned gazes fixated on the two young men hovering in the sky. The maturity on their faces now slowly merged with the youthful naivety etched in memories of the past.
"Mo Yu, Xiao Yan? Impossible! How can you still be alive?"
Recovering from his daze, Yun Fan's expression twisted in astonishment. Moments later, as if a cat had its tail stepped on, he shrieked in disbelief.
On the courtyard wall, the disciples of Yun Lan Sect were similarly struck dumb. It was only now that they fully grasped the deeper meaning of Mo Yu's earlier remark about their connection with Yun Shan.
The connection between Yun Lan Sect and the Xiao Clan wasn't trivial—it was a grudge forged in blood and death!
Xiao Yan took a step forward, his gaze sweeping over the bewildered crowd as he said coldly, "Since that old dog Yun Shan is still alive, why should we be dead?"
Yun Fan's face twitched as remnants of disbelief lingered in his eyes. The culprits who had wreaked havoc on Yun Lan Sect three years ago and turned it upside down were still alive—and what's more, their strength had soared to levels far beyond his own.
As this realization settled in, Yun Fan's heart thudded violently in his chest.
"Kill them!"
His eyes trembled with fear as he roared, his expression contorting into a savage snarl. Such enemies could not be allowed to live!
At his command, over a dozen disciples from Yun Lan Sect leaped into action, their battle energy surging from their bodies. However, before they could mount an attack, sharp whistling sounds sliced through the air.
In the blink of an eye, gleaming sword tips emerged from their chests, stained crimson. As their vitality drained away, they turned their heads with great effort, catching sight of cold, merciless faces before their vision faded entirely.
"Thud! Thud!"
The sound of bodies falling from the courtyard wall and hitting the ground echoed eerily. Mu Tie's face twitched as he glanced at the black-clad figures who had appeared silently atop the walls. A chill gripped his heart as he sensed their power—every one of them was at the peak of Dou Ling, and their attacks were precise and deadly.
"Are all these people his subordinates? And there are even stronger ones who haven't acted yet…"
Swallowing hard, Mu Tie shifted his gaze to the silver-eyed youth standing with a faint smile. His disbelief deepened.
In just three years, the two youths who had been hunted like stray dogs by Yun Lan Sect had built such a formidable force!
Seeing his so-called elite disciples slaughtered so effortlessly, Yun Fan's heart pounded harder. His gaze darted to the serene silver-eyed youth, unease creeping into his soul.
"Axe Blade Battalion, attack!"
A sharp order rang out from behind Yun Fan, issued by Meng Li, the deputy commander of the city guards who had clearly sided with Yun Lan Sect.
Meng Li sneered maliciously, his expression darkening further as he heard the synchronized march of troops outside.
Mo Yu cast a calm glance at Meng Li, his memory dredging up an old grievance. This man had been the one to block their escape from the Jia Ma Empire three years ago.
With a wave of his hand, Mo Yu signaled toward the sky where massive flying beasts hovered.
"Heh, Manor Lord, leave these small fry to us. You needn't trouble yourself."
Laughter echoed from above as dark figures descended swiftly. Moments later, the sound of clashing weapons and agonized screams erupted outside the City Lord's mansion.
Though the blood-curdling sounds continued, not a single soldier managed to break through. The sinister smile on Meng Li's face froze, giving way to panic. Despite amassing over a thousand men, none could aid him now.
As the scent of blood wafted through the air, both Yun Fan and Meng Li turned pale, their expressions tinged with dread.
Xiao Yan whispered something into Mo Yu's ear before stepping forward. His soft yet chilling words sent a shiver down their spines.
"For what Yun Lan Sect did to the Xiao Clan, I will repay it a hundredfold. Let it start with the two of you today. Don't worry, Yun Shan will join you soon enough."
The black-robed youth advanced with an air of icy determination. Yun Fan, trembling, tightened his grip on his azure longsword as the energy within him surged. The fear in his heart gradually gave way to resolve as he steeled himself.
"The Xiao Clan Twin Dragons must have returned to the Jia Ma Empire to seek revenge on Yun Lan Sect. I have to get this news to the Sect before it's too late!"
Thinking this, Yun Fan's shoulders quivered as wings of pale blue battle energy unfurled from his back. Launching himself into the air, he aimed a sword strike directly at Xiao Yan.
Unfazed, Xiao Yan raised a hand. A jade-green flame, formed from the fusion of two different types of Heavenly Flames, sprang to life in his palm. With a simple motion, a powerful suction force erupted, stirring up a gale within the courtyard.
Yun Fan and Meng Li were helplessly yanked from their positions, hurled against the walls, and crumpled to the ground, their fates uncertain.
"Merely a three-star Dou Wang. If I couldn't kill you, how could I ever hope to settle my score with Yun Shan?"
As the smoke cleared, Yun Fan's ashen face emerged from the haze. His once-arrogant demeanor had completely vanished.
Xiao Yan flicked the flame from his fingers, sending it streaking toward the terrified figures of Yun Fan and Meng Li.
The moment the flame touched them, their bodies were engulfed in jade-green fire. Within moments, nothing remained but a pile of charred ashes.
The courtyard fell into a stunned silence. Even Xiao Li and Lin Yan stared at Xiao Yan in astonishment.
In a mere year and a half within the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower, Xiao Yan's strength had transformed to an unfathomable level.
Looking at the composed Mo Yu and the newly formidable Xiao Yan, those present could only marvel internally. The Xiao Clan Twin Dragons were indeed worthy of their name.
As expected, Mo Yu showed no surprise. With Xiao Yan's mastery of the Flame Mantra, he was undoubtedly one of the most talented prodigies on the Dou Qi continent. Perhaps only Mo Yu himself could suppress Xiao Yan's potential.
"Commander Mu Tie, it's been three years. I trust you've been well," Mo Yu greeted, his voice calm as he landed gracefully before Mu Tie.
After Yun Fan was defeated by Xiao Yan, the remaining experts of the Yun Lan Sect were swiftly eradicated by Yuan Manor. Sensing the overwhelming presence of the young man before him—a presence even more daunting than his family patriarch or the emperor—Mu Tie couldn't help but tense up.
With a solemn expression, he cupped his fists in gratitude. "Thank you, Young Master Mo Yu, for saving us!"
Waving his hand dismissively, Mo Yu interlaced his fingers and asked softly, "It has been three years since I left the Jia Ma Empire. Commander Mu Tie, could you update me on the current state of the nation?"
Xiao Yan and the others gathered behind him, equally perplexed by the audacity of the Yun Lan Sect in targeting the military.
Mu Tie sighed deeply, his brows furrowed. "The past few years have been tumultuous for the empire, and all of it stems from the Yun Lan Sect." He paused before continuing, "This matter is quite complicated. If you are not in a hurry, Young Master Mo Yu, may I invite you inside so we can discuss it in detail?"
Mo Yu's gaze flickered thoughtfully before he nodded in agreement. While he had some understanding of the empire's current situation, it was uncertain how much had changed.
In the spacious guest hall of the City Lord's Mansion, Mu Tie graciously seated Mo Yu and his group before ordering the maids to serve tea meticulously.
"It's surprising to see how far the Xiao Clan's Twin Dragons have come in just three years," Mu Tie remarked with a smile after taking a sip of tea. His gaze swept over Xiao Yan, Xiao Li, and the others, unable to suppress a sense of unease.
He was well aware that the most terrifying aspect of the Twin Dragons' return wasn't merely their immense power but the formidable experts they had gathered. Among those present, any one of them could rival the empire's top ten powerhouses.
Mo Yu responded with a faint smile, steering the conversation back. "Commander Mu Tie, it seems the Jia Ma Empire has been far from peaceful in recent years."
Mu Tie let out a bitter laugh. "Indeed, the chaos originates from the Yun Lan Sect."
Curious, Xiao Yan interjected, "What has the Yun Lan Sect done?"
Mu Tie explained, "Shortly after you two left the empire, the Yun Lan Sect abandoned its previous aloof stance, aggressively recruiting disciples and subtly stationing them in key cities across the empire.
The royal family and the three major clans noticed these moves but dared not confront Yun Shan due to his terrifying strength. As time passed, the sect's arrogance only grew."
His expression darkened as he added, "The sect's leadership also shifted. Yun Yun was dethroned as the Sect Master by Yun Shan, who now wields absolute power within the Yun Lan Sect."
Mo Yu's hand paused mid-sip, a noble and elegant figure flashing through his mind. His thoughts wandered to the five-year promise, his eyes momentarily lost in reminiscence.
Unaware of Mo Yu's shift in mood, Mu Tie continued gravely, "To make matters worse, the Yun Lan Sect has allied with the Mu Lan Valley of the Mu Lan Empire. With such a powerful alliance, they seem poised to act against the royal family and the three major clans."
Mo Yu frowned at this revelation. He recalled Lan Yingying's warnings before she left Yuan Manor six months ago. As expected, Mu Lan Valley was colluding with the Yun Lan Sect.
"And what kind of force is this Mu Lan Valley?" Xiao Yan asked, puzzled.
Mu Tie set his teacup down and patiently explained, detailing the strength and reach of Mu Lan Valley.
After listening, Mo Yu spoke. "This Mu Lan Valley must be targeting me. During my travels years ago, I inadvertently trespassed into their territory and offended them..."
As Mo Yu recounted the events from years ago, Xiao Li and the others exchanged wry looks, their lips twitching. At sixteen or seventeen, Mo Yu had already managed to provoke a force as powerful as the Yun Lan Sect. It was hard not to marvel at the audacity of geniuses.
"What should we do next, Manor Lord?" Ling Feng, ever obedient, asked directly.
"It's no trouble. Since Mu Lan Valley is here, we'll deal with them together," Mo Yu replied nonchalantly.
Hearing the respectful title "Manor Lord" and the understated confidence in Mo Yu's words, Mu Tie's expression shifted. To him, Mu Lan Valley was a terrifying entity on par with the Yun Lan Sect. Yet in Mo Yu's eyes, dealing with them seemed as simple as disciplining a child.
What shocked him even more was the calm acceptance of this statement by the formidable experts accompanying Mo Yu.
Of course, Mu Tie was unaware of Yuan Manor's dominance in the Black-Corner Region. To them, a force that required three peak Dou Huangs to barely rival a Dou Zong was hardly a threat, let alone a high-level Dou Zong.
"Time is of the essence. We won't linger here. Leave the Yun Lan Sect to us; the Jia Ma Empire will not fall into their clutches," Mo Yu declared, rising to his feet with absolute confidence.
Mu Tie could only nod, respectfully escorting the group out of the hall.
Outside, the group mounted their tiger eagle beasts. With a wave of Mo Yu's hand, the majestic beasts roared and took to the skies, disappearing toward the horizon in the direction of the imperial capital.
Watching the fading silhouettes, Mu Tie sighed. He knew the already turbulent Jia Ma Empire was about to be upended once again by the arrival of Mo Yu and his companions.
