The sudden appearance of Protector Wu caused the battlefield on Yun Lan Mountain to descend into chaos once more.
Terrifying black mist engulfed the mountain, radiating a fearsome and oppressive aura that spread rapidly.
Witnessing this scene, Yan Luotian, struggling to suppress the toxic lightning within him, grimaced and turned his wrath upon the three elders of Mu Lan Valley.
"How did you conduct your intelligence gathering? Not only did you recruit that traitor, Heavenly Poison Lady, but you also failed to uncover Yun Lan Sect's secrets! Tell me, what is this black mist? How does Yun Lan Sect still have such hidden tricks?
"I must be cursed to have gotten involved in this mess with the Jia Ma Empire!" The unending chain of unexpected developments finally made Yan Luotian erupt into a fit of rage.
Hearing this, the faces of the Mu Lan Three Elders darkened.
Initially, in this plan, Mu Lan Valley was supposed to be the biggest winner. They aimed to eliminate Mo Yu, their greatest threat, while collaborating with Golden Goose Sect and the Poison Sect to carve up the Jia Ma Empire.
However, everything had gone awry. Not only had Xiao Yixian betrayed their three-faction alliance, but Yun Lan Sect had also proven far more formidable than anticipated.
Gazing at Protector Wu, who had revealed his true form, Mo Yu narrowed his silver eyes slightly. With a subtle flap of his Dou Qi wings, he turned to Xiao Yixian and said:
"This person is a hidden powerhouse from the Hall of Souls lurking within Yun Lan Sect. His strength is no joke. Xiao Yan's group likely won't be able to handle him. I'll leave this side to you while I go to support Xiao Yan."
Xiao Yixian nodded without hesitation and smiled lightly. "Don't worry. A heavily injured Yan Luotian and the Mu Lan Three Elders are no match for me. Go help them."
"Thank you," Mo Yu said, smiling at her decisiveness. Then, with a strong flap of his wings, he shot toward Xiao Yan's location.
"Jie jie, Yao Chen, I didn't expect you to deliver yourself to me. You were lucky to escape back then, but it cost my Hall of Souls considerable effort. If I capture you today, it will surely please the Hall Master greatly."
"A bunch of rat-like monsters. Back then, you aided that beast Han Feng in ambushing me. Today, it's time to settle the score!"
With the arrival of Protector Wu, Yao Lao no longer hid himself. He emerged from Xiao Yan's body, his translucent soul form hovering in the sky. His cold gaze fixed on the black mist that was Protector Wu, his voice filled with anger and killing intent.
"What's that?"
The crowd was stunned as they saw the illusory figure floating beside Xiao Yan. This mysterious figure had appeared out of nowhere, leaving everyone puzzled.
While most were unfamiliar with this figure, Jia Xingtian and Hai Bodong's faces lit up with joy when they saw him in action. Xiao Yan's strongest trump card had finally been revealed.
"If you had a physical body, this Protector might fear you somewhat. But as a soul body... jie jie, my Hall of Souls has plenty of methods to deal with you!"
The black mist churned and pulsed before slowly condensing into a figure shrouded entirely in shadow. Two faintly crimson eyes gleamed through the darkness, radiating an ominous aura.
Yao Lao narrowed his eyes, pale flames flickering in his palm. He turned to Xiao Yan and said, "Just as I suspected, Yun Lan Sect harbors a Hall of Souls powerhouse. It seems I won't be able to assist you; even I would struggle to deal with him."
"Master, just keep him occupied. Yun Shan is mine to handle." Seeing Yao Lao's grave expression, Xiao Yan nodded firmly. Today's battle was bound to force out all his trump cards.
Yao Lao sighed softly. "Indeed, today is perilous."
"Protector Wu, leave Yao Chen to you," Yun Shan said, his tone chilling as he sneered at the pair.
Protector Wu nodded slightly. With a flick of his hand, a pitch-black chain extended from his palm, its clinking sounds reverberating ominously. With a slight shake, the chain coiled like a venomous serpent around him.
The black chain trembled for a moment before Protector Wu let out a sinister laugh. With a sharp flick of his wrist, the chain tore through the air, transforming into a black streak that shot toward Yao Lao.
"Little brat, let's see who will save you now!" Yun Shan sneered at Xiao Yan as the clash between Yao Lao and Protector Wu began.
"Heh, Yun Shan Sect Master, don't forget about me." Just as Yun Shan prepared to strike, a cold chuckle resounded. A silver-eyed youth flew into the fray.
"Mo Yu, it's you!" Yun Shan's gaze darkened, his voice low. "Hmph, just another fool seeking death!"
"Mo Yu, you're here!" Xiao Yan exclaimed with joy.
"Yes, Xiao Yixian can handle the situation on that side. I'm here to lend you a hand," Mo Yu replied with a smile.
"So her name is Xiao Yixian?" Xiao Yan glanced at the white-haired woman in the distance. For some reason, hearing her name stirred a strange sense of familiarity within him. Shaking off the thought, he turned to Mo Yu. "Thank you for your help, Mo Yu. But my Master seems to..."
Mo Yu understood Xiao Yan's concern and nodded. Summoning the Fire Yao Puppet, he handed it to Xiao Yan. "Take it. Let it help you deal with Yun Shan. I'll go assist your Master."
"Thank you, Mo Yu!" Xiao Yan's face lit up with gratitude.
"No need for thanks. Yao Lao is my elder, and fighting alongside him is my honor. Besides, the Hall of Souls is the true culprit behind my grandfather's and the Xiao Clan's demise. I won't let this opportunity slip by!" Mo Yu replied coldly.
Leaving the Fire Yao Puppet to Xiao Yan, Mo Yu shot toward the battlefield where Yao Lao and Protector Wu clashed.
In the sky above, the black chain, sharp as a venomous fang and inscribed with intricate runes, lunged toward Yao Lao. Its tip glowed with a deadly sheen, pulsating with energy.
Yao Lao, sensing the deadly intent, did not dare to be careless. The pale flame in his hand roared to life, transforming into a fiery spear that collided with the black chain.
"Boom!"
A muffled explosion echoed as the two forces clashed, creating ripples of black and pale energy. The aftermath caused slight spatial distortions, a testament to the power behind the attack.
Protector Wu's expression turned grim. The collision was far from the overwhelming victory he had anticipated. A strange mix of ice and heat surged through the chain, momentarily disrupting his Dou Qi.
With a sinister smile, Protector Wu unleashed three more chains, each coiling ominously in the air before striking simultaneously.
"Three-Seal Soul Chains!"
"Senior Yao Lao, let me assist you!"
Coldly glaring at the three rapidly approaching black chains, Mo Yu flew forward. With a wave of his sleeve, three bolts of thunder shot forth.
The three thunder bolts glowed in crimson red, pale white, and transparent hues, representing three of the Thunder Souls Mo Yu had mastered. Under his control, the terrifying bolts quickly condensed, coiling around him like serpents before abruptly launching forward to clash head-on with the black chains.
Clang! Clang! The collision of the chains and thunder produced sharp metallic sounds, with sparks scattering in all directions.
No matter how bizarre or unpredictable the chain's attacks were, Mo Yu's three thunder serpents skillfully intercepted each assault. His seasoned combat experience was evident.
Seeing Mo Yu intervene with such techniques, Protector Wu couldn't hide his shock. Each clash between the chains and the thunder bolts sent violent energy rippling back along the chains, an unnerving sensation that left him uncomfortable.
"Damn it! Why is this brat here? And his thunder... it's strange. No wonder the Hall pays so much attention to him!"
As the battle intensified, Protector Wu grew increasingly wary. Mo Yu's powerful abilities and the unique qualities of the three mysterious thunders far exceeded his expectations.
"Annoying brat! He's definitely not ordinary... but fortunately, there's someone else to deal with him." Retrieving his chains, Protector Wu glared at Mo Yu with a dark expression, muttering under his breath.
"Mo Yu, why are you here?" Yao Lao turned to him with a puzzled look.
"Xiao Yan, my cousin, was worried about you, so I came over. Since I've encountered a Protector from the Hall of Souls, I can't just let him go," Mo Yu replied calmly.
Yao Lao was momentarily stunned but then glanced toward Xiao Yan's battlefield. With the Flame Puppet, a Dou Zong-level construct, aiding him, Yun Shan was clearly at a disadvantage.
"Heh, you brat. You sure have a lot of tricks. Xiao Yan is lucky to have a cousin like you," Yao Lao chuckled, stroking his beard in satisfaction as he saw how Mo Yu was shifting the tide of battle.
"You're too kind, Yao Lao. This is what I should do," Mo Yu responded with a faint smile. His gaze then turned toward Protector Wu, his tone growing serious. "We should team up to deal with him quickly. Attracting more experts from the Hall of Souls would be troublesome."
Having encountered Elder Mu Gu in the Black-Corner Region, Mo Yu was uncertain if the Hall of Souls had only dispatched Protector Wu to the Jia Ma Empire, as in the original story. If another Protector or even a respected Elder arrived, the situation could spiral out of control.
Mo Yu's plan was simple: act decisively and eliminate Protector Wu as quickly as possible.
"Indeed. It's been a while since I've had a satisfying battle. Let's start with this Protector Wu," Yao Lao said coldly, his eyes blazing with unmasked fury.
As a former Yao Zun-Zhe, his fall to such a state was entirely due to the Hall of Souls.
Hearing their discussion, Protector Wu froze, his expression turning grim. He snarled, "Two insignificant pests overlooked by my Hall dare to spout such nonsense. Laughable!"
He shot a venomous glare at Mo Yu, smirking coldly. "What a pity—I can't personally kill you. But don't worry, our Hall has its own experts to handle you!"
Mo Yu's brows furrowed as an ominous feeling rose in his heart.
Protector Wu sneered as a dark light flashed on the black storage ring on his finger. A simple token appeared in his hand. With a twisted grin, he crushed it. The token shattered instantly, releasing a surge of dark energy that rippled across the space.
In the next moment, the entire area trembled.
Thick black fog poured out from the broken token, engulfing the sky and spreading through the battlefield. A chilling aura descended, capturing everyone's attention.
All eyes turned toward the source of the fog. Within moments, the dense mist began to dissipate, revealing a figure slowly stepping forward.
As the black fog cleared, the light fell on the figure's face—a youthful visage, seemingly no older than twenty. His face bore no emotion, exuding an eerie calmness, as if his features were frozen in place.
However, the most unsettling detail was his eyes. They were entirely black—an unfathomable darkness with no trace of whites, resembling two black pearls embedded in his sockets. Being stared at by those eyes sent an involuntary chill down Mo Yu's spine.
The man tilted his head slightly, his gaze sweeping across the battlefield like an indifferent deity before settling on Mo Yu.
A cold and detached voice broke the silence. "So, you're Mo Yu, the one the Black Demon Army of the Lei Clan salutes. You don't look like much."
The black-robed youth raised his eyelids slightly, his tone disinterested. "Whatever. Consider this a little diversion. My name is Hun Feng, representing the Hun Clan, and I challenge you, a member of the younger generation from the Lei Clan."
