Chapter 47: Interesting information

He was able to quickly make it to his destination, a relatively large house near the slum area and out of sight of the guard house. He knocked twice, and he was let in without any questions.

The room was well-lit, making it easy for him to see who was inside, so he walked straight into what appeared to be the living area. There were three couches placed around a high table.

The air in the room was musty and thick, and it smelled of armpits mixed with vanilla, creating a weird, sickening smell. It was clear someone had tried to drown out the smell of body odour with the smell of vanilla extract but was unsuccessful.

Luke walked towards the people seated on the couch, clenching his fist as he prepared himself for an interaction that would no doubt be unpleasant.

"I've brought 4000ixe, which should cover at least the whole month, just like you asked."

He said, getting right into business, speaking to the tall and muscular woman with ample breasts; she had long dark red hair and swirling pools of dark-coloured eyes, and she had a large scar that ran down her right eye to her chin.

Her skin was tanned a light shade of brown and she sat leisurely on the couch with her legs spread out, chain on her left hand as a man beneath the table ate her out and let out barely audible moans.

Next to her was another man with a slave collar, standing there with a stoic expression. He wore nothing but his underwear and had lashing scars all over his petite frame.

The man had long blonde hair and deep blue eyes, his face was beautiful, and his figure was quite effeminate, looking more like a woman than a man; if Luke hadn't seen the bulge on his underwear, he would have thought he was a flat-chested woman.

She didn't acknowledge Luke's words as she let out pleasant moans of pleasure before she climaxed and finally regained her concentration.

She pulled on the chain, causing the man below the table to slam his head as he perked upward from the pull.

Luke grimaced at such a sight, praying to He'us, begging for this not to happen to him or his family.

"4000ixe for a month? That's…."

She said and Luke clenched his butt cheeks, hoping the Gods didn't abandon him.

"2 weeks, worth"

She said, causing Luke to frown, his anger bubbling up from his stomach.

"That's bullshit; you said if I bought money above 2500ixe, It would be for the whole month!!"

Luke shouted as he stepped closer, wanting to strangle the bitch before him, but she gave him a quick look, and he shivered before he quickly stepped back, realising his mistake.

"If you don't like it, tell the guards or better yet since you're an adventurer report to the guild"

She said, her voice menacingly deep yet still carrying some femininity to it, Luke shut his mouth and clenched his teeth and veins of anger bulged from his forehead.

Adventurer matters are usually handled by the guild as the city's knight guard usually don't take them seriously, or even like adventurers.

Legally, they're supposed to handle any criminal matters presented to them by anyone. However, an adventurer reporting something like having been robbed would get the same reaction as a man reporting being physically abused by his wife.

Luke couldn't report this, mostly because he bought slaves from an Illegal auction, slaves legally cannot be sold in auctions.

While you can sell them to someone else, provided you have a permit from the royal family, you aren't allowed to have them auctioned.

Participating in Illegal slave auctions means getting jailed for a full year, and if you're an adventurer, your card is revoked, and you're jailed for a full year. Luke cannot afford that, so he could only resign himself to his fate.

"That's what I thought, come back here in a day or two it will depend but just to be back here tomorrow "

She said with a devilish smirk on her face, and Luke could only grind his teeth in fury; he swore he would strangle this bitch in the future. Unfortunately, that was only a delusion on his part.

While officially, the next rank after the A-rank is AA, unofficially, there's another before that, which is the A+ rank. The gap between A-rank and AA-rank is wide enough that Adventurers had to create an unofficial rank to separate those who were truly AA from the ones who just barely scratched the surface.

"Why?"

He managed to ask, barely able to unclench his teeth to ask that question.

"No reason, you owe the Count money, when I tell you to be here, you will be here. Don't ask me stupid questions, now get out of my sight"

He promptly exited and once again did the same thing he did to arrive, keeping to the back streets and alleys but this time going all the way near the noble's district before walking back to his home.

…..

Reniris was seated on a wooden chair, her hands over the table as she attentively listened to the information being divulged by the first wife of Ruth's husband.

Ruth's home by the looks of it, was a moderately large house, located a bit far from the nobles district in the middle of the city. It was large enough to fit two whole families with 2 children each,

The dining area alone was quite big with the table being able to fit at least close to ten people.

The house, despite being large, felt warm and cosy and gave Reniris a feeling that she belonged there despite being a stranger; the background noise made for a pleasant experience.

Ruth was cooking while also singing a pleasant melody, while Jake, her son, had an assortment of toys that he played with, making noise with his mouth as he made the toys crash onto each other.

"So for the most part it's unknown where demons come from, at least not yet"

Maria stated while Reniris listened. She was a short and petite woman with shining black hair and honey-brown eyes, and she wore black-rimmed spectacles.

Reniris would have found the noise annoying if she was at a library, but for some reason, the contrasting noise of cooking and singing and Jake just making noise with his mouth made her feel a sense of calm. Plus, the noise made her extra attentive to what was being spoken by Maria.

It was similar to how a person was able to study even though they're listening to music, what should be distracting only made them focus more and better.

"There are many theories about the existence of the Demons, most people, like the average townsfolk, attribute their existence to the God of monsters Ha'diu but most historians and mages refute that"

Maria stated, and Reniris gave her a nod, signifying that she understood; so far, they've talked about the appearance of Demons, with Maria describing them as being what one would expect when they combined a human and monster by fusing them.

She continued and said that, for the most part, their appearances varied, but a feature that they all shared was that they had horns on their head and that they were just as smart as the Humans, Elves, Dwarves and Beastmen.

"Why? You said in appearance, they're like a combination of a monster and human so I think it's reasonable to assume a God of Monsters would fuse his creation with something else to achieve some goal."

Reniris stated, and Maria nodded, telling her she saw what she meant.

"That might as well be true, however, like I said there are many theories, and I only said it's the historians and mages that don't believe in that theory but that doesn't mean it's false"

He explained, and Reniris hummed as if telling her, "That makes sense".

"Most historians don't believe that theory to be true because they believe that the God of Monsters was actually a sort prime Demon, the first one to exist, something they call a Devil"

Reniris's eyes bulged slightly in surprise, and she leaned forward; her greater interest in the topic peaked; this was the closest she was to finding out about herself, her origins and her family. She quickly reigned in her emotions and maintained her cool.

There was no need to make it like she was that curious about devils, she has yet to know how the people of this country collectively feel about such creatures.
