"What are you talking about? I came to give him another dose of medication. Ouch!" Hearing the feeble excuse, Zick squeezed even tighter.
"Boys, we have a rat!" She called to the men guarding outside.
She looked at the terrified nurse with disgust. "If you came to give him another dose, you should have at least checked if he needed it, right? Didn't you make an agreement with the attending doctor that nothing more would be given to him today? Do you think I'd be stupid enough not to know what and when he should be given?"
She nodded to the men, who grabbed the so called nurse by the hands and led her out of the room.
Despite her screams and protests, no one tried to help her. If she had offended the Ruslanovs in any way, she would have to pay for it.
A moment later, new guards appeared and wordlessly stood guard. Zick, trying to calm her raging nerves, called Anton.
"What's wrong? Has he gotten worse?" He asked nervously, seeing who was calling.
"No. It's just that someone already tried to get to him. Some woman dressed as a nurse tried to inject him with something. Your people have already taken her away, but I guess if that didn't work.."
"They can move on to a more aggressive game. Yes, I know" He finished for her. "We can't move him though. We have to wait out the night before we take him to his home. I'll send people to standby right away and have the twins watch the hospital grounds. Zick. I know this is going to be hard, but hold on. I'll be there soon"
Anton wanted to comfort Zick but she had a feeling that it wouldn't end there. She quickly went out to call Don's doctor and asked him to move him to another room.
They already knew where he was. It wouldn't be a good idea to stay in the same place.
They left two armed men as a decoy and moved somewhere else. This time their bodyguards entered the room with them and secretly watched what was happening through the slightly ajar door.
Getting a message from the twins that they were keeping an eye on everything and backup would be arriving soon, she breathed a sigh of relief for a moment.
They weren't completely defenseless anymore. She sat down next to the unconscious Don again and took his hand in hers. "If I had known how much health it would cost me to be with you, I would have gone to be a computer science teacher" She mumbled under her breath, complaining.
She really wanted to hear his answer. Surely something stupid like 'Then I would have gone to be the principal of the same school and you would have to give me daily reports from your classes'
Of course with a stupid smile and self-confidence having in mind something obviously diffrent.
Zick smiled at him gently. Maybe their lives would be different then. Calmer. Not like now. Because after all, when they manage to get rid of Vasili, someone else will appear. As always. Enemies never end.
Zick didn't even have a chance to rest for a moment when she got a disturbing message from the twins.
'Two vans are pulling up to the hospital'
If this wasn't a trip of foreigners with food poisoning, it could only mean one thing.
Without wasting a moment, she ran out of the room and approached the nurses' station.
"Please hide! Dangerous people with weapons were seen entering the hospital. You could all be in great danger!"
She had to warn people. After all, she didn't know if they would be ruthless enough to shoot innocent people.
Zick grabbed one of the laptops on the desk and went back to Don's room. With access to the internet, she had to check where she was standing and how serious the situation was.
By hacking into the system, she took over the image from the cameras. They hadn't heard it in the room yet, being on the fourth floor, but there had already been a shootout downstairs.
Anton's men were firing at the people who arrived in the vans. Unfortunately, some of them managed to get inside.
Fortunately, they didn't shoot at civilians.
Having chosen a path, they trotted one after another. They took the emergency stairs so Zick could cause a little trouble.
She started turning the lights on and off, slowing them down a bit. Time was of the essence now. Time for backup to arrive.
Anton would have known about the attack and was on his way to help. But Zick had to survive until then.
Better for Vasili to kill her with Don than give her a chance for revenge.
Once again, she glanced nervously at the men approaching their floor and at what was happening outside.
Seeing their men running inside, she was happy for a moment. However, when she heard the shots on their floor, shivers ran through her body.
The mercenaries were already here. Ready to kill in cold blood. The two guards glanced calmly at the situation in the corridor.
They couldn't give away their position and expose their boss to danger. Zick nervously looked from them to Don. If anything happened to him now, it was over.
For a moment, the shots stopped and only footsteps could be heard.
"He's gone! They must have moved him! Search the remaining rooms!" One of the attackers shouted. They slowly began to approach them, checking the other rooms. Zick practically began to pray for a backup to arrive in time.
"Hide behind the bed and don't come out" One of the guards whispered to Zick.
The enemy was close. Too close. Zick, taking one last look at Don, covered him with a sheet.
She hid behind his bed, right next to the monitoring machines. Holding her laptop tightly in her hands, she closed her eyes, listening.
The men were getting closer, but the backup was also coming quickly. They knew they had to find their target quickly, eliminate him, and pass on a message to the client.
There were only two rooms left on their way. Entering one of them, they found only empty beds. Their last chance was behind the door next door.
Nodding to each other in understanding, they left the empty room and were immediately attacked by two security guards.
Scattering to the sides, they returned fire. The situation did not look good for Zick and Don.
However, hearing the screams from the end of the corridor, she was filled with hope again.
Their support had reached the floor and was quickly approaching. The security guards were wounded, but the mercenaries encountered another obstacle.
Don and Anton's men began their attack. Knowing that they would not get out of this unscathed, they did not intend to die in vain.
Covering one of their own, they allowed him to fall into Don's room.
Quickly getting up from the ground, he noticed someone covered with a sheet. Without wasting time and without having time to check, he aimed for the head and heart.
Immediately after the shot, the life monitoring machines began to beep, showing a thin line.
Pressing the receiver on his ear, he transmitted the message.
"Target Eliminated"
He didn't go out to help his men right away. He decided to make sure he had killed the right person.
With one big step, he walked over to the bed and grabbed the sheet. Before he could pull it back, Zick stood up from behind the bed and swung at the man with all her might, hitting him in the face with her laptop.
With tears in her eyes and rage, she threw herself at him, hitting him with the barely holding laptop.
The man, recovering from the first blow, threw the woman off him with ease.
Zick hit the metal bed with the back of her head hard. For a moment, her vision went dark but she couldn't let it go.
The mercenary tried to get up but the furious woman threw herself on his back and put a block on him.
"You killed him, you bastard! I won't forgive you for this!" She screamed, squeezing as much as she could.
However, this time she was quickly thrown over his shoulder and landed heavily on the ground.
The man reached for the gun and was about to get rid of her when a bullet pierced his skull. The dead man fell to the ground next to the wounded woman.
"Zick! Is everything okay?" Anton helped her sit down on the ground.
Grimacing, she noticed that she was bleeding.
"I'll survive." She finally breathed a sigh of relief.
If Anton had reached here, the threat had passed. Signaling for Anton to be quiet, she added loudly.
"Unfortunately, I can't say the same about Don. They killed him before I could do anything." She reached for the earpiece in the dead man's ear and showed Anton to destroy it.
Only after he stepped on it did she urge him.
"Do the same with the others and quickly call a doctor to check on Don!"
