Chapter 70

Hearing the broken connection with his men, Vasili put the receiver on the desk and walked to the window with satisfaction.

The hacker sitting at one of the desks nearby was silent. He knew that the entire team that left, perished.

The monster he had to serve was ruthless. He didn't care that he sent more people to their deaths every time.

The most important thing to him was a victory like this one.

The man snorted quietly to himself, knowing how many shortcomings he had noticed.

However, he had no intention of sharing his discoveries with the monster. He was here against his will, under threat of death.

He only did what was necessary and nothing more. If Vasili missed something, it was his problem. Let him enjoy it while he could.

Vasili, unaware of anything, was reveling in his first small victory. He had managed to get rid of his strong ally Ruslanov.

In a few days, he would begin his next plan to get rid of his new partner's competition. Or rather, that's what he told her.

The woman didn't seem too smart, and after fulfilling her revenge and giving her a certain Darell, he would be able to take over her company and invite a few friends to work with him.

After all, it was good to have a place to launder dirty money. Why shouldn't he use it?

With a winning smile, he texted Bethany that they would implement their plan in a few days. For now, she was to stay hidden and keep a low profile.

There would be a meeting of high-ranking business people soon, and that would be a good time to show himself.

He poured himself a shot of vodka and drank it all at once.He nodded to the hacker to leave the office and sat down in his big armchair, pouring himself another round and reveling in his victory.

He imagined Anton's furious face and Gregorej's helpless expression. Laughing to himself, he saw his bright future and the Ruslanovs' despair when he crushed them.

Meanwhile, in the hospital, after destroying all the headphones, Anton's men began to clean up.

Despite the police arriving, Anton firmly convinced them that it was an attempt on his life and there was no need to start any investigation.

The Ruslanov family would take care of everything. The only thing the police were able to do was to write down the number of dead and injured involved in the whole incident.

Don was also on the list...

In one of the private rooms on the fifth floor, Zick was sitting, being treated by a nurse.

However, her eyes were focused on the man sleeping on the bed.

Thanks to her cleverness, the only thing that he suffered during the attack was a grazed shin.

Before the mercs entered their floor, Zick turned his bed so that his legs were where his head should be.

She placed a pillow on his legs to make it look more natural and when they were close, she covered him with a sheet. It was the least she could do, hoping no one would notice.

That was why she didn't let the man pull the sheet back. At least now they could fool the enemy into thinking Don was dead.

Once he was safely transported to his estate, he would be able to recover without fear and then attack from hiding.

He would become their secret weapon. Zick would make sure of that.

As soon as they returned, he would erase all traces of the hospital and the way back. She would not allow anyone to disrupt his regeneration.

And she knew well that they would all need him as soon as possible.

In the morning, she learned from the twins that Vasili had been giving orders while already in the same country as them. It was very disturbing news.

They had to be much more vigilant from now on. If Vasili thought that after getting rid of Don, Anton would lose an ally, he was very wrong.

Don's men wanted revenge for what had happened to their boss. They did not direct their hatred at Ruslanov for being dragged into this, as he had thought.

Over the past week, the two groups had worked together extremely well. No one and nothing had been able to sow discord between them.

Anton had his hands full again. Knowing he had to deal with this alone, he let Sophie and Darell know he would be gone for about two days.

After a quick chat with his father, he arranged a route with his men to get Don to the estate. Everything had to be perfect.

Zick didn't want to leave Don's side for a moment. She was exhausted. Her eyelids were heavy and her body was refusing to obey.

But she couldn't afford to rest just yet. Hearing from the doctor that Don was getting better, she was very happy.

The had been given the green light to take him to his home. Receiving the written recommendations, Zick took them with her and tried not to faint as she walked next to his bed.

She had not suspected that she would be so weak. She had worked long hours helping Don many times, but she had always had energy drinks with her.

Well, until she moved in with him. That was when she had learned how little she could endure without the 'miracle drink'.

Getting into the back of a large van, she sat down next to the lying Don.

Now she had another dozen or so minutes of driving back ahead of her. Only then would she finally be able to breathe.

Despite the tension, every time they slowed down, Zick would occasionally doze off.

Shaking off another lethargy, she heard the door open. They were finally home.

With the last of her strength, she went to Don's room, where his men helped carry him.

His bed was much bigger than the hospital bed. Hanging all the necessary IVs next to him, she lay down next to Don and, holding his hand, drifted off.

Rick entered the room some time later. Of course, without knocking, because why should he knock when his boss was unconscious inside? Should he wait for permission to enter?

He already had enough on his mind, with so many injured people from the last play and now this.

"He could have stayed in the hospital. Why did they bring him here? So I could have more work?" He mumbled under his breath with dissatisfaction.

Rick took the papers from the nightstand and quickly looked through them. He checked the IVs until his eyes finally fell on Zick lying next to the boss.

"Something's gotten to you too, you little punk? What? Don't you have the strength to resist me and give me orders? Hmpf" He snorted with dissatisfaction and took her hand, checking her pulse.

He frowned slightly and left the room without saying anything. He returned a moment later with an additional IV in his hand and connected it to the sleeping woman.

"Tsk! He can't take care of himself and worries about others" He hissed, covering her with a blanket.

Checking the boss, he returned to his room with his hands in his pockets and a gloomy face.

By evening, Anton had had enough of everything. He sorted everything out with the police and the hospital.

He got his men together and ordered everyone who was able to stand by. He made sure the twins didn't take their eyes off Vasili and, taking a moment to take a break, went to check on Don.

When he entered, he found the two asleep on the bed. Don looked much better, but Zick was very pale. Seeing the IV attached to her arm, he went to ask Rick what was wrong.

"She's weak. She needs to get some sleep and eat something and I guarantee she'll be as loud as before" The man commented without looking up from typing something on his computer.

Anton had an idea when he left the perpetually dissatisfied doctor. He called Sophie and asked her to come here with Darell and bring dinner for everyone.

He told the people to prepare the tables and went by himself to get Noah.

Anton needed his closeness, even for a moment. He had to regenerate his energy and only Noah was able to do that.

Within an hour, the estate became quite lively. Sophie and Darell brought dinner and with the help of Don's people, they laid everything out on the table.

Anton, with Noah close to him, ate with satisfaction, having the opportunity to look at his treasure.

After dinner, Anton went to talk things over with Darell, Noah eagerly entered into a conversation with the twins and Sophie, at her brother's request, went with dinner to the room where Zick was sleeping.

To her surprise, the woman was sitting next to the unconscious Don, holding his hand.

"Hey Zick. How are you holding up?" Sophie asked quietly, giving her a light hug.

"Better now. Thanks for dropping by." She smiled sadly.

"Come on. I brought you some food. Sit down and get some strength." She put her plate on her lap and sat down in the armchair next to her.

Zick slowly began to pick at the plate but under Sophie's watchful gaze, she ate everything. Sophie sat down next to her and hugged her.

"He'll get through this, you know. After all, he has someone to come back to, right?" She touched Zick's head with her own.

"He wouldn't try. I'd revive him and strangle him myself" She threatened but a second later both women laughed quietly.
