I should've known

They took a taxi home, only to find Mark in the house and already preparing dinner. Since there were going to be a lot of portions to satisfy Alice's appetite, he always cooked really early.

"Ah, Mark?" Alice called out as she walked in.

The fresh smell of chicken sauce led her to the kitchen as soon as she opened the door.

Her mouth salivated as she turned to Mark, who was staring at the sauce.

"I thought you'd be home late," she said, but her eyes were fixed on the sauce on the stove. "So, why are you here right now?"

"Before you ask that, why not clean the drool that's about to flood the room?" Leo asked and Alice closed her mouth, cleaning her drool with the handkerchief he stretched out to her.

"Ah, sorry. But it smells so good." Alice said.

"Thank you," Mark said, smiling delightedly. "And as for why I'm here right now," he turned towards the stove and continued stirring. "Well, I resigned as a jailer."
