Chapter 12: These Legs Are His Safe Haven

Inside the ward.

The students chatted, still dazed. They hadn't figured out what had happened. The doctor said they'd been electrocuted.

This explanation was hardly satisfactory.

We were fine in the classroom, just watching our classmates dance. Curiosity got the better of us, we joined in, and then…nothing.

"Li Yuanhao, I lost consciousness when I touched you. Did you do something?"

"Zhou Yuan, don't accuse me falsely."

"Forget that for now. Chen Yang said he'd come to the hospital to see us. Why is he the only one in the whole class who's fine?"

"Who knows what's going on with him."

As the students discussed amongst themselves, a voice came from the doorway.

"Hello everyone, I've come to see you." Lin Fan stood at the entrance, holding milk and sausages.

There weren't many beds in this ward; the other students were in another.

The room fell silent.

The lively chatter abruptly stopped. The most terrifying thing for them was that they were all hospitalized, while Chen Yang was perfectly healthy.

And he'd even brought them things.

A little scary.

"How are you all recovering? You can't overwork yourselves like that in the future, falling asleep on the floor." Lin Fan put down the milk and sausages, opened the boxes, and took a milk and two sausages to the first student.

"Here's some milk and sausages for you."

A faint smile graced Lin Fan's face, his signature smile.

The student stared at Lin Fan, stunned. He wanted to refuse, but as if possessed, he accepted the offerings.

"Thanks."

"You're welcome. Helping each other is what classmates do. For example, when I was in Qingshan…" Lin Fan stopped, realizing he shouldn't say too much. They were ordinary people, unlike him. Telling them the truth would scare them.

One milk and two sausages for each person.

One after another, he distributed them.

"Here's yours." Lin Fan handed the items to Zhang Hao.

Zhang Hao thanked him earnestly, "Thank you, really, Brother Chen. I saw in another group chat that you beat up Tang Jie at noon. Is that true?"

Lin Fan replied calmly, "Zhang Hao, I didn't beat him up. I just had a word with him, told him to study hard."

So he did beat him up.

Zhang Hao didn't believe a word Chen Yang said. "Just had a word"?

What good would that do?

He must have beaten Tang Jie badly. Even without seeing it firsthand, the photo of the wall was enough to let him imagine the惨烈 scene.

"Brother Chen, I want to follow you. Is that okay?" Zhang Hao asked.

Lin Fan looked puzzled, then readily agreed, thinking Zhang Hao wanted to join him on his cultivation path. "Sure, you can cultivate with me from now on. I'll teach you."

Zhang Hao beamed, thrilled.

Brother Chen had revealed his secret.

Cultivation?

How amazing that would be.

Acupuncture therapy.

Galactic Rotation Technique.

Electrocution therapy.

He finished distributing the food in this ward.

"Everyone, please rest well. I hope to see you back at school." Lin Fan stood at the doorway, bidding the students a warm farewell.

He arrived at the other ward and continued distributing the milk and sausages.

"I don't want it. Take your things away." Yang Zitian said unhappily, pushing away the milk and sausages Lin Fan offered.

Lin Fan stood quietly in front of Yang Zitian, a faint smile on his face. "You need it."

Yang Zitian was about to retort, but his eyes met Lin Fan's. Those ordinary eyes held a chilling indifference.

"I said, I…"

"No, you need it." Lin Fan stared at him.

Yang Zitian looked down, then took the milk and sausages, reluctantly drinking and eating.

Hmm…quite tasty.

Beep beep!

Yang Zitian's phone rang. He picked it up; it was a message from Tang Jie.

"Be polite to Brother Chen. He beat up Tang Jie at noon."

"No way." Yang Zitian stared, his fingers flying across the keyboard.

"Absolutely true."

Yang Zitian looked at Chen Yang distributing milk and sausages to his classmates. He stared, his mind reeling, feeling dizzy.

Chen Yang beat up Tang Jie?

That's a joke.

A female student said, "Chen Yang, could you open the window for us? It smells awful in here. I really want some fresh air."

"Sure." Lin Fan smiled.

But for some reason, the smile made the female student feel uneasy. It seemed bright, yet there was something unsettling about it, sending a shiver down her spine.

On the 25th floor.

A haggard man lay in bed, glaring angrily at the man and woman before him.

"You're not even hiding it anymore, bringing your lover here. I'm already like this, and you still want me to sign the divorce papers? You're so heartless!"

Li Hu was filled with grief and anger. He ran a hot pot restaurant and, due to long hours and late nights, his health had deteriorated. He went to the hospital for a check-up only to discover he had cancer, and it was terminal.

He was in despair.

But what made him even more desperate was that his wife had brought her lover to the hospital and, right in front of him, demanded he sign the divorce papers. This completely shattered him.

"Li Hu, stop being so melodramatic. Just sign it. Let's end this amicably. You're not going to live much longer anyway." The woman, with heavy makeup and permed hair, looked at Li Hu without a shred of pity, even with a hint of disdain.

The man beside her, pale-faced and much younger, smiled at Li Hu, offering him a cigarette.

"Have a smoke, bro. Enjoy yourself while you can. Smoke as much as you can."

"Fine, fine. I'll see how long you two lovebirds can be so carefree." Li Hu, enduring the pain, picked up a pen and signed.

The woman took the divorce papers, put on her sunglasses, and left without looking back.

"Ah! God!"

"Why are you doing this to me?"

Li Hu wept bitterly. Looking at the open window, he mustered his courage, got out of bed, and rushed towards it. "I might as well die."

Other patients in the ward, witnessing this, screamed in terror.

"Someone's jumping!"

On the 18th floor.

Lin Fan opened the window. Just as he was about to turn back, he sensed something and instinctively reached out, catching the falling Li Hu.

Crack!

The sound of a bone breaking.

The students in the ward heard the noise and stared at the window.

What was that…?

Lin Fan dragged Li Hu into the ward.

Li Hu, who had been ready to die, opened his eyes and realized he had been saved. He looked up at Lin Fan, grabbed his clothes, and yelled, "Why did you save me? Why didn't you let me die?"

"I have cancer."

"My wife cheated on me."

"Just let me die, okay?"

Lin Fan looked at the man slumped before him and handed him the milk and sausages.

"Here, have something to eat."

Li Hu stared at Lin Fan, dumbfounded.

A moment later, he hugged Lin Fan's legs, sobbing uncontrollably.

These legs were the middle-aged, balding man's safe haven.

Lin Fan gently stroked the man's bald head.

"Milk and sausages. They're quite good."
