Chapter 53: The Sycophant Li Laifu

March 7th!

Sunny.

A beautiful day, perfect for an outing.

Huatian Third People's Hospital, inside a ward.

Lin Fan awoke from his sleep. Opening his eyes, he saw someone staring at him. He recognized the person as the one-eyed man who refused to wave and be friends with them.

That's right.

The one-eyed man had come to the hospital again. He had said he wouldn't have anything to do with the two mental patients, but after thinking all night and smoking several packs of cigarettes until his throat was dry and scratchy, he'd eaten his words. He came to the hospital ward, pulled up a chair to the foot of the bed, crossed his legs, and stared intently at Lin Fan.

"Hello, we meet again."

Lin Fan sat up, extending his hand, causing the bandages wrapped around him to split open.

The one-eyed man frowned. Electrocuted like that, and he could still move?

Didn't the splitting wound hurt?

The one-eyed man ignored Lin Fan. Shaking hands was impossible. He would never shake hands with a mental patient in his life. He just stared intently at Lin Fan.

Lin Fan liked the look in the other man's eyes. Only friends would maintain eye contact for so long.

He smiled and stared back at the one-eyed man.

Old Man Zhang woke up, clamoring for Sprite. Seeing the one-eyed man in the hospital, he broke into a happy smile. The good man was here! Seeing him staring at Lin Fan, he quickly joined in, smiling and staring at the one-eyed man as well.

In the other bed, Zhang Hongmin was feeding his daughter breakfast.

Seeing the scene beside him, his hands trembled slightly.

He was afraid.

The one-eyed man was definitely not normal. If he were normal, how could he stare at his benefactor, who was mentally ill?

Gradually, the one-eyed man couldn't stand their gazes.

Truly crazy.

Even someone as strong as him couldn't bear it; he imagined others would find it even more unbearable.

"Are you here to give me another chance? Don't worry, I'll definitely succeed this time."

"Will you give me this chance?"

Old Man Zhang really wanted to help this good man. Although they weren't friends yet, he knew this man was a good person, and he was willing to help any good person.

The one-eyed man glanced at Old Man Zhang, his meaning clear: Get lost…

"I know you don't believe me, but I'll tell you the truth. I've figured it out. The main reason for the previous failures was your other eye. If we blind your other eye, I can perform the acupuncture in one go and make both your eyes grow back."

"Do you believe me?"

Old Man Zhang spoke very seriously, not joking at all.

When a mental patient spoke so seriously about something, it meant the matter itself was very problematic.

The one-eyed man took a deep breath, suppressing his anger.

He was furious inside.

Did even the mentally ill think he was sick?

"Trust him one more time. He's really capable," Lin Fan spoke up for Old Man Zhang. He really hoped his friend could help his other friend.

The one-eyed man didn't want to speak.

The price of trusting him was blinding his only good eye. If he believed that, then maybe he really was crazy.

Right, he shouldn't have come here.

What could he possibly communicate with them?

He stood up and left the ward.

Old Man Zhang said dejectedly, "So he doesn't believe me."

Lin Fan comforted him, "That's his loss."

"Mm." Old Man Zhang nodded. "I'm thirsty."

"Me too."

"Ah! My needle case is gone! They stole my treasure! I'm so sad!"

Lin Fan took out a Coke and a Sprite from the cabinet. They didn't taste good at all, but there was nothing else, so they had to drink these. He missed being at home.

"Drink up."

"Okay."

They were good at forgetting unhappiness and preferred to be happy all the time.

Vice President's Office.

Li Laifu lay leisurely in his chair, drinking tea. Even as the vice president, he didn't often operate personally, but after Lin Fan's surgery, he could proudly tell everyone:

I, Li Laifu, am still sharp.

Still capable of fighting three hundred rounds.

Knock, knock!

"Come in."

Li Laifu saw a one-eyed man walk in. He looked familiar. Eh! Wasn't this the man who was hospitalized with those two mental patients last time?

He immediately became agitated:

"Yes, it's you! You ran away without paying your medical bills, and now you dare to show up here!"

The one-eyed man glanced at him, pulled out an ID from his pocket, tossed it onto the desk, then sat down imposingly on the sofa, putting his feet up on the coffee table, and waited quietly.

Li Laifu initially thought the man was going to pull out a gun, which startled him. He realized later that he was overthinking it and breathed a sigh of relief. It made sense. He, Li Laifu, saved lives and healed the wounded, and was friendly to people. Where would he have any enemies?

But he was annoyed. The one-eyed man was so rude.

This was the office of the vice president of Huatian Third People's Hospital. Knocking on the door before entering showed some politeness, but what was this now?

Putting his feet up on the coffee table.

Did he know how expensive this coffee table was?

It was a solid wood coffee table that he had saved up for a long time to buy!

And that little booklet on the table…

What was that about?

Did he think a little booklet could make Li Laifu forgive him? He was dreaming.

He picked up the booklet disdainfully, flipping through it casually. Gradually, his eyes widened, and his expression became serious. The trace of disdain vanished without a trace.

Li Laifu walked up to the one-eyed man, respectfully handed back the ID, lowered his posture, and said humbly:

"Greetings, Leader. I didn't expect you to inspect our Huatian Hospital. This is an honor for our hospital."

"Would you like some tea, Leader? Top-quality tea leaves, absolutely authentic."

Without waiting for the one-eyed man's reply, he personally brewed the tea and respectfully placed the steaming cup on the coffee table in front of the one-eyed man. Then he stood respectfully by the side, like a soldier waiting for the general's orders.

The one-eyed man picked up the teacup, took a sip, and nodded in satisfaction. "Mm, indeed, good tea."

Li Laifu was flattered and gushed:

"I'm glad you like it, Leader. I, Li Laifu, respect leaders the most. The people of Yanhai City can live and work in peace and contentment, all thanks to the leadership."

"You work hard, Leader."

"Have some tea, Leader."

If Hao Ren had seen Li Laifu's attitude, he would definitely have said, "You're such a hidden sycophant."

"I want to know Lin Fan's physical data from this surgery. You can do that, right?" the one-eyed man asked directly.

Li Laifu said, "Please rest assured, Leader. I'll bring the data right away. Please wait a moment."

A moment later, Li Laifu placed the surgical data file in front of the one-eyed man.

"Leader, everything you need is here. See if anything is missing. If you need anything else, Leader, we also have his blood samples, which we can bring to you for your research."

The one-eyed man was very satisfied with this vice president.

He took the file, stood up, patted Li Laifu's shoulder, and said, "Mm, you're very good. I think highly of you."

Li Laifu was flattered and said seriously, "It's my honor to serve you, Leader."

The one-eyed man left with the file. At the door, he turned back and asked:

"I haven't paid the medical bills yet. How much is it?"

Li Laifu looked stunned. "Medical bills? What medical bills? It's our honor to serve you, Leader. How can we charge you? I just hope you'll come by more often."

At this point, he felt something was wrong. Frequent visits to the hospital didn't seem like a good thing, so he corrected himself:

"Come by for inspections more often."
