Mia tried to use her psychic powers to forcefully control Sonic's body, but she couldn't even track his movements visually.
To activate her ability, she needed a target.
Chu Yang had anticipated this situation, which was why he had transformed her into a cyborg.
Mia's lower body armor activated.
As Sonic launched his attack, her armor released a powerful burst of air, propelling her to a safe distance.
The attack missed.
Sonic stared at Mia in surprise. The explosive power she displayed just now far surpassed that of Genos.
"Your speed is decent, but still far inferior to mine," Sonic said.
He then used his Shadow Clone Technique, creating multiple clones that turned into dark shadows and charged at Mia from all directions.
Using her armor's high mobility, Mia quickly ascended into the air, denying Sonic the opportunity to surround her.
She then activated all her laser weapons, aiming for a full firepower assault on the ground.
Sonic anticipated her intentions.
The shadow clones grouped together, forming seals in unison, faint flames flickering in their mouths.
Fire Release: Dragon Flame Song Technique!
Sonic spat out serpentine flames, which formed several dragon heads in midair. His shadow clones used the same technique, launching a barrage of fiery dragon heads toward Mia.
Meanwhile, a downpour of laser beams rained down like a storm.
Fire and lasers collided, causing massive explosions that shook the underground laboratory.
Smoke filled the air.
The two fought in the darkness.
With her weapons in cooldown, Mia fell into a disadvantage and was bombarded by Sonic's Fire Release techniques.
Fortunately, she managed to seize an opportunity to absorb some of Sonic's life force, slowing down his offensive.
Chu Yang observed their weaknesses from the sidelines.
Sonic was adept at fighting ground-based enemies, but once his speed was neutralized, he became vulnerable.
Although ninjutsu helped mitigate this disadvantage, it wasn't enough—his Sharingan needed further development.
Mia's psychic powers still had significant growth potential. At this stage, they posed little threat to enemies.
However, her displayed potential exceeded Chu Yang's expectations.
Just as the battle reached a stalemate, Dr. Genus suddenly appeared, handing Chu Yang a laptop playing a news broadcast.
[Massive monster outbreak reported along the coast of J City. A-class hero Stinger is struggling in battle.]
Chu Yang stood up and clapped his hands.
"Let's put the sparring on hold. Time to get to work."
---
The Deep Sea King was an exceptionally intriguing monster.
Leaving the sea voluntarily for the land, it entered a weakened, dehydrated state called the "dry condition."
Even in this state, the Deep Sea King defeated the S-class hero, Puri-Puri Prisoner.
After rain fell in J City, the Deep Sea King regained its normal state, repelling Sonic and nearly killing Genos in the process.
Its combat power, though rated at the Demon level, was close to the Dragon level in strength.
At the very least, it far surpassed the Underground King.
The Deep Sea King's resilient body would be ideal for creating battle armor, significantly enhancing defense. It was also a perfect subject for further experiments.
"I'll go with you."
Just as Sonic and Mia prepared to leave, Chu Yang put down his research materials.
"Master, it's just a Demon-level threat. There's no need to trouble yourself," Sonic said, panicking at the thought of Chu Yang doubting his abilities.
Mia also grew nervous, not daring to meet Chu Yang's gaze.
"There's someone I'm particularly interested in observing," Chu Yang said, smiling as he walked toward the door.
Sonic and Mia exchanged curious glances before quietly following behind.
On the surface, the dilapidated buildings had been demolished and were being rebuilt. Armor Gorilla and a group of cyborgs were busy at work.
Dr. Genus estimated it would take about a week to rebuild everything from scratch.
The new base would be roughly twenty times larger than the original.
Rather than a mere building, it would be a heavily fortified military fortress.
"It's too late to drive. We'll fly instead. Mia, take Sonic with you," Chu Yang said.
Neither of them moved.
The competitive tension between Sonic and Mia was palpable.
They turned their heads away in disdain, refusing to even look at each other.
Chu Yang ignored them and took off into the sky, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Mia, now anxious, quickly followed.
Sonic, even more desperate, grabbed Mia's leg.
The three soared toward J City at high speed.
---
Meanwhile, more Deep Sea monsters appeared in J City. The lone A-class hero, Stinger, struggled to keep up.
To save people, he had to eliminate the monsters first.
Fortunately, the monsters weren't very powerful overall. Going all out, Stinger quickly defeated a wave of them, though he sustained serious injuries himself—his swollen face now unrecognizable.
Still, the nearby civilians were safe, which made Stinger happy.
As he basked in his accomplishment, convinced he could climb back to 10th place in the A-class rankings, a bolt of lightning tore through the sky.
A massive figure loomed behind him.
It was a hulking monster with blue skin, a crown on its head, fins on its cheeks, and a mouth full of sharp teeth.
It grinned malevolently and punched Stinger from behind, sending him flying.
Stinger's smile froze as he passed out in a corner.
The Hero Association, upon witnessing this through surveillance, immediately raised the disaster level.
Emergency broadcasts echoed throughout the city.
Mass evacuations began.
Those near the coastline couldn't evacuate in time and sought shelter in nearby refuges.
Among the evacuees were professional heroes.
Suddenly, someone noticed a lone figure heading toward the danger zone.
It was a man on a bicycle.
"Hey! Mumen Rider, stop! Didn't you hear the disaster level has been raised?"
"This isn't something we C-class heroes can handle. Just come with us and leave it to the higher-ranked heroes!"
A group of C-class heroes in a pickup truck tried to persuade Mumen Rider to leave.
Mumen Rider exchanged a few words with them, asked for the monsters' location, and quickly pedaled away.
"What an idiot. Does he really think he's a hero?"
"Forget it. If he wants to die, let him."
They watched him leave with complex expressions.
Rain poured down heavily.
From City D, Saitama and Genos heard the emergency broadcasts about the disaster level escalation.
Meanwhile, the Deep Sea King strolled through J City.
Two heroes lay defeated beneath its feet.
A-class hero Lightning Max, ranked 20th.
S-class hero Puri-Puri Prisoner, ranked 17th, the lowest among S-class heroes.
The Deep Sea King defeating an S-class hero signified an escalating threat.
Suddenly, the monster spotted a refuge.
Grinning cruelly, it leapt atop the shelter, punching through its roof and dropping inside.
Amid the terrified screams of the people, it began its assault.
The rain intensified.
Mumen Rider pedaled furiously toward the shelter.
"Hey! Riding that fast in this weather could cause an accident."
A sudden unfamiliar voice from behind startled Mumen Rider.
In his panic, his bike skidded, and he lost control of his body, tumbling to the ground.
Just as he was about to crash into a nearby building, his body suddenly froze mid-air, as if grabbed by a pair of invisible giant hands.
"Oh, sorry about that. I hope I didn't scare you," said a beautiful girl who appeared before him.
Mumen Rider glanced at her, and his cheeks immediately turned red.
The girl drew a circle in the air with her finger.
Mumen Rider gently descended to the ground and felt the invisible force dissipate from his body.
"Judging by his outfit, he should be a hero, but he seems just like an ordinary person," said the boy standing beside the girl in a tone that was uncomfortable to hear.
It was Mia and Sonic.
Failing to catch up with Chu Yang, they had entered the city to look for monsters, only to stumble upon Mumen Rider.
Mumen Rider recognized Sonic. "You're the second-to-last ranked C-Class hero. Your title is… Flashy Ninja, right?"
Sonic smirked and nodded. "That's right, that's me!"
Mia pouted. She knew Sonic loved being called a ninja. The more pleased he looked, the more it annoyed her.
"Do you know where the shelter in this city is?" Mia interrupted Sonic without hesitation.
Sonic's expression darkened.
"I was just heading there," Mumen Rider nodded.
"Tell us the location and head back. It's dangerous here," Sonic said matter-of-factly.
Mumen Rider froze momentarily before bursting into laughter. "Don't judge me by how I look; I'm still the top-ranked C-Class hero. I won't be a burden to you."
Only then did Sonic remember his own rank as second-to-last. His face darkened, and he said nothing.
"Let's go together then."
Mumen Rider took the lead, and the three headed toward the shelter.
---
Meanwhile, the Deep Sea King had taken out several heroes hiding in the shelter and was slowly advancing toward the crowd.
At the critical moment, a scorching light beam descended from the sky.
...
Before Mia and Sonic arrived in J City, Chu Yang had already entered the shelter with the crowd.
He stood silently on the sidelines, watching the Deep Sea King defeat several heroes and witnessing Genos descend like a divine weapon, engaging in a fierce battle with the monster.
He observed like a diligent spectator.
The person Chu Yang found interesting wasn't Genos or the Deep Sea King; it was Mumen Rider.
He was here to observe this person.
Mumen Rider was a highly unique character—his courage, sense of justice, and determination to protect the weak.
In another world, someone like him would undoubtedly be the protagonist.
Chu Yang believed he might have a sliver of a protagonist's fate.
If anyone in this world could become the second person to break their limiter after Saitama, Chu Yang thought Mumen Rider had a high chance.
Therefore, Chu Yang had a bold idea.
He wanted to try transplanting Saitama's genetic factor into Mumen Rider to see what would happen.
The extracted genetic factor could be backed up, so it wouldn't be wasted. Even if something went wrong, he could always "get a little more" from Saitama.
Compared to potential losses, the data revealed during the experiment was far more valuable.
It might even hold the key to breaking the limiter.
However, before transplanting Saitama's genetic factor, Chu Yang needed to lay some groundwork. Mumen Rider needed to go through more growth.
As Chu Yang contemplated these things, Genos had already had his arm torn off by the Deep Sea King.
Realizing he might lose, Genos loudly warned the civilians to retreat and used his body to shield them.
"You can do it, big brother!" a little girl's encouragement suddenly changed the course of the battle.
The Deep Sea King suddenly teleported in front of the little girl.
