"What?"
The Jōnin present froze in disbelief at Obito's outburst. All eyes immediately turned to Kakashi, their expressions full of suspicion and curiosity.
"Is there some sort of dramatic plot twist unfolding here?"
Kakashi felt the weight of everyone's gaze, as well as Obito's burning eyes. He coughed awkwardly and tried to compose himself.
"Ahem... Obito, I've told you before, you shouldn't jump to conclusions without investigating thoroughly. What Minato-sensei did back then... it was to protect her."
Kakashi's words were vague, but Obito understood the implication. His Sharingan trembled slightly, and his expression changed drastically.
"She's alive... isn't she?"
Although Kakashi hadn't explicitly said it, Obito read between the lines. His voice shook as he asked, and his mind began racing.
Suddenly, he remembered the mysterious Anbu woman he'd seen fighting alongside Kakashi before. The memory of her voice, her movements, her presence—it all came rushing back.
Could it be...?
"That Anbu woman I saw... could she be...?"
Obito's throat felt dry as he swallowed nervously. His voice wavered with desperation, as if clinging to a fragile hope.
"Yes, it's her."
Kakashi sighed. At this point, there was no point in hiding it. He admitted the truth directly.
The revelation hit Obito like a thunderbolt. His body trembled uncontrollably, and his face alternated between shock and anguish.
"It's really her... she's really alive..."
His voice was barely above a whisper, but the turmoil within him was unmistakable. Memories of the past surged forward—his actions, his hatred, his despair.
Hadn't he resolved to kill her before? If Kakashi hadn't stopped him, he might have actually done it.
And now... she was alive, and together with Kakashi.
The guilt, shame, and fury swirling inside Obito were almost unbearable.
Meanwhile, Kakashi looked at Obito with a mixture of emotions. Despite their history as best friends, Kakashi couldn't forgive Obito for his crimes. Yet, seeing Obito like this still made him feel a pang of sympathy.
Shiranui Genma, who had been silently listening until now, suddenly pointed angrily at Obito.
"Uchiha Obito! You're the one who caused the Nine Tails Rebellion! The Fourth Hokage was your teacher—how could you betray him? Do you have any idea how many people in Konoha lost their lives because of you?"
As the Fourth Hokage's personal guard, Genma's loyalty to Minato ran deep. His outrage was completely understandable.
Fugaku Uchiha, standing nearby, added his own voice to the condemnation.
"Obito, when has the Uchiha clan ever mistreated you? Why would you do this to us?"
Fugaku's Mangekyō Sharingan flared as he glared at Obito, his anger evident.
The other Jōnin and Uchiha clan members quickly joined in, their voices rising in a cacophony of outrage and condemnation. The atmosphere in the conference room grew tense, almost suffocating.
Obito, however, seemed completely unfazed by the verbal onslaught.
His mind was in chaos, consumed by self-denial and fragmented memories. For years, he had convinced himself that Rin had loved him. That belief had driven his actions, no matter how twisted they were.
But now, everything was crumbling.
The thought of Rin and Kakashi together was unbearable.
"No, no... Rin must have thought I was dead. That's the only reason she would choose Kakashi. Yes, that has to be it!"
Obito's voice grew frantic as he clung to this flimsy rationalization.
"Kakashi, I need to see Rin! I need to hear it from her myself!"
Before Kakashi could respond, Naruto, who had been silently observing, suddenly spoke up with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
[The so-called final blow—since Obito is so agitated, let's give him something to remember.]
Naruto smirked inwardly.
"I'll go find her for you!" Naruto shouted, pretending to be annoyed. He then turned and bolted out of the room before anyone could stop him.
Kakashi's expression darkened as he watched Naruto leave. Turning back to Obito, he activated his Raikiri.
"Obito, why are you doing this? Rin told me herself that she never had feelings for you. If she sees you like this, it'll only ruin your image in her eyes. Let me put an end to this madness!"
The crackling lightning in Kakashi's hand grew louder as he stepped forward, ready to strike.
Obito, however, glared back with defiance.
"End me? What kind of joke is that, Kakashi? You have no right to make decisions for me! Everything I've done was for Rin! I gave up everything—my past, my clan, even my teacher!"
His Sharingan spun wildly, the Tomoe spiraling into an ominous pattern.
"Now you tell me she's with you? Don't insult me, Kakashi! I must see her—I need to know the truth! I need an answer for all these years of sacrifice!"
Obito's voice echoed through the room, filled with desperation and fury. His eye glowed like a devil's, casting an oppressive aura over everyone present.
"So, all of this... for a woman?
Obito, your life is utterly laughable. Don't you think Konoha and the Uchiha clan combined have more than just ten women worth fighting for?"
Fugaku let out a bitter laugh, though his tone carried a mix of anger and disbelief. He stared at Obito, his frustration evident.
He couldn't understand how someone from the Uchiha clan, a clan with such pride and history, could throw everything away for a single person.
Fugaku thought of his own sacrifices—how he had been willing to give up everything, including his own life and his family, for Konoha and for his son.
And here was Obito, betraying his village and his family for a single woman.
The comparison stirred a mix of fury toward Obito and self-reproach in Fugaku's heart.
"Ridiculous?
Hahaha… so what if it is?" Obito's laughter echoed, wild and unrestrained.
"A world without Rin is a hell to me. I don't care about any of you, or anything else, anymore!"
Obito's words, accompanied by his manic laughter, sent chills down the spines of everyone in the room.
"Obito, how... how did you become like this?"
A soft but firm female voice broke the tension in the room. Everyone turned toward the door.
There stood Naruto, accompanied by Nohara Rin.
As soon as Rin stepped into view, a wave of shock swept through the room.
The first to react was Kakashi. His Sharingan widened in disbelief, and his voice caught in his throat.
"Rin, you... you..."
Even Obito, who had been consumed by madness just moments before, turned to look. His excitement froze, replaced by sheer disbelief and rage.
There she was—Rin, standing casually next to Naruto.
But what caught everyone's attention wasn't just her calm demeanor.
It was her prominently swollen belly.
The sight left the room in stunned silence.
Kakashi felt his heart drop. He couldn't recall Rin being pregnant, let alone showing this much. Yet, even with his Sharingan, he detected no sign of a Transformation Jutsu or any other illusion.
For the first time in his life, Kakashi was utterly lost.
Obito, however, was consumed by a maelstrom of emotions. His voice trembled with rage as he yelled, "Rin… you're with Kakashi?!"
His lone Sharingan glowed with a menacing red, resembling a beast's eye.
"Do you have any idea what I've sacrificed? What I've done for you?!"
Rin, however, remained composed. She placed her hand on her belly, her face flushed slightly with embarrassment but resolute.
"Obito, I think you've misunderstood something.
I never loved you. Not even once. You didn't sacrifice for me; you did it all for yourself.
The truth is, the person I've always cared for is Kakashi. And now, we're starting a family together."
Her tone was gentle yet firm, like an arrow piercing through Obito's heart.
"Everything you've done has been your own wishful thinking. Seeing you like this... it disappoints me."
"Wishful thinking?!"
Obito's mind shattered at her words. His voice broke into manic laughter, but it was filled with despair.
"I don't recognize this Rin! And I don't recognize this world!"
Pain surged through Obito's heart, beyond anything words could describe.
His lone Sharingan contracted violently, tears of blood streaming from his eye. His grief and fury morphed into a vortex of negative energy.
The Sharingan's Tomoe spun rapidly, the air around him thick with malice.
"Not enough... my hatred... is not enough!"
Bound by the chains of his own emotions and choices, Obito roared as wooden spikes erupted from his body.
The sharp, splintered projectiles shot out in all directions, centered around him.
