However, Abigail didn't really care about all that right now. What she needed to focus on was how to best stir things up.
"Let me take a look at what tasks we've got this time."
Saying this, Abigail activated the wristband from the Main God system. Instantly, a light screen appeared.
"Let's see here…"
Three tasks were listed on the screen:
Task 1 (Main Task): Protect the protagonist team until the end of the story. (Success: 1000 Main God points. Failure: Erasure.)
Task 2 (Side Task): Kill zombies in close combat. (1 Main God point per zombie.)
Task 3 (Side Task): Alter the storyline. (Main God points awarded based on the extent of the changes.)
"These tasks are a godsend! Now I can stir things up to my heart's content." Abigail grinned, her excitement barely contained. With the Main God encouraging her to change the plot, how could she not cause some chaos? As for the consequences of altering the storyline? That wasn't her concern at all.
"But the main task is a bit of a problem!" After all, failure in the main task meant being erased, so she couldn't mess with the protagonist too much.
"Wait, I've got it! There's a way I can stir things up without worrying about the protagonist dying. I'm a genius!"
Abigail's plan was simple. If the protagonist's death meant failure, she'd just let them die—and then bring them back to life.
"Hmm…"
At that moment, the six people who had been unconscious started waking up. Seeing this, Abigail quickly slumped over the table, pretending to be asleep.
"Where am I? Wasn't I live streaming? Who are you people? What's going on?"
A heavily made-up woman woke up and, after scanning her surroundings, began to shout loudly.
"Quit your yelling! It's so annoying. If I find out who knocked me out, I'll beat him to death!"
On the other side, a burly man got up and roared angrily. The woman immediately went quiet, clearly terrified.
"Is this…?"
A student wearing glasses suddenly spoke up, his voice tinged with excitement.
"We're doomed… we're all going to die…"
In contrast to the excited student, an older man in business attire seemed gripped by despair.
"You, the one with the glasses—do you know what's going on? Explain!"
The burly man mistook the student's excitement for knowledge and approached him, grabbing his collar.
"Didn't you all notice the information implanted in our minds? We're in the Main God Space!"
"What the hell is that supposed to be? And when did something get put into my brain? Was I experimented on?"
"The Main God Space, don't you know?"
"Why should I? Wait, you seem to know a lot. Was this your doing? Did you bring me here?"
The burly man lifted the student off the ground, glaring at him.
"We're going to die… we're all going to die…"
"Can you shut up already? Stop repeating that!"
Annoyed by the office worker's whining, the burly man yelled at him, but the man continued to mutter to himself. Frustrated, the burly man raised his hand as if to strike him. The office worker cowered in fear, hugging his head.
At that moment, a woman who looked like a corporate executive stepped between them.
"Sir, please don't resort to violence. It won't solve anything."
"Violence might not solve everything, but it sure can solve people who cause problems."
A woman wearing glasses, who had been quiet until now, finally spoke up.
"Miss, please don't provoke him further," the corporate woman cautioned.
"I'm just stating the truth. Whether you believe it or not, we're in a place called the Main God Space. I've already used my initial 50 Main God points to get this."
As she spoke, the bespectacled woman lifted her hand, revealing a sharp military knife.
"Wow, that's a real knife! I've always wanted one like that!"
The student from earlier eagerly showed off a katana he had redeemed.
"Idiot!"
The woman with glasses sighed, clearly exasperated.
"What's your problem?"
"You're an idiot. Did you even read the tasks from the Main God? We're dealing with zombies. You should have exchanged for a handgun, but instead, you got a katana."
"So what? This blade is sharp. I can slice through zombies no problem. Besides, the task clearly says we need to kill them in close combat."
The student retorted, unwilling to back down.
"Are you really going to charge at zombies with that?"
"Of course! What's there to be scared of?"
"I hope you can still say that later."
Ignoring him, the bespectacled woman turned her attention back to the group.
"We're a team now, so let's introduce ourselves. My name is Ding Muyu. I'm a writer, and I've written about these infinite survival scenarios before. So, I have some experience."
After her introduction, Ding Muyu looked at the others expectantly.
"Qi Zhou. What I do isn't important."
"Yeah, you're probably in the mafia," the student muttered under his breath.
"What did you say, kid?"
"Nothing! I'm Jing Tianhua, a university student. I know a lot about movies and animation, so feel free to ask me anything."
The others introduced themselves one by one, and eventually, all eyes turned to Abigail, who had been sitting quietly in the corner.
Noticing the sudden silence, Abigail looked up. Seeing everyone staring at her, she put on an innocent smile.
"Big brother, big sister, who are you? And where are we?"
"Little girl, what's your name?" Ding Muyu asked, approaching Abigail.
"Sister, my name is Abigail Williams. I'm 12 years old, and I live in Salem Court. Can you take me home, please?"
To Abigail, none of the people present posed any threat. However, knowing that the key to Nyarlathotep's plans involved this group, she understood they were essential to keeping the entity satisfied. Unlike the protagonist, though, these people were expendable.
Still, what kind of behind-the-scenes mastermind would she be if she didn't stir up some chaos?
"So… my name is Abigail, and I'm 12 years old. Big sister, where are we?"
Abigail put on an innocent act, leaning into her role as a naïve child. Since she'd pretended to be unconscious earlier, everyone around her now fully believed in her innocent persona.
"Are you really Abigail?"
Suddenly, Jing Tianhua shouted excitedly, rushing over to her.
"Wow! I can't believe I'm meeting Abigail here! This is amazing!"
Seeing Jing Tianhua's enthusiasm, Abigail realized he knew who she was—at least, the original Abigail. His fanatical attitude made him a useful tool.
Feigning fear, Abigail backed away into a corner.
"Hey, kid, back off! Can't you see you're scaring her?" Qi Zhou pulled Jing Tianhua away.
"Can someone calm this little girl down? She looks like she's about to cry," Qi Zhou said, looking around.
After a brief exchange of glances, Ding Muyu took on the task.
"I'll do it."
She approached Abigail gently.
"Don't worry, little one. We'll keep you safe."
Abigail, knowing when to play her part, toned down her act. She couldn't be too naïve, after all.
"Sister, can you take me home?"
"Well…" Ding Muyu hesitated, unsure how to answer. But seeing Abigail's innocent, wide eyes, she said softly, "I'll figure something out."
Abigail nodded. She had successfully blended in with the group.
"So, what's our plan? I tried the door earlier, but it won't open. We can't see anything outside either," Qi Zhou said, returning to the conversation.
"We wait. The Main God will open the door eventually. In the meantime, we need to plan how to survive—and complete the tasks."
"Um, Abigail…"
Jing Tianhua, having been pulled away earlier, approached again.
Seeing the lustful look in his eyes, Abigail knew he was already targeting her. Like many self-proclaimed 'protagonists' in these crossover scenarios, this guy probably wouldn't live long if his luck ran out.
But as disposable pawns go, he could still serve his purpose.
Abigail stepped back, positioning herself next to Ding Muyu.
Noticing this, Jing Tianhua seemed disappointed but quickly regained his composure.
An optimist, Abigail thought to herself.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang from outside.
The fog that had covered the windows vanished, revealing the chaos beyond.
"The mission has begun. Let's go. We need to figure out what scenario we're in."
With that, Ding Muyu gripped her military knife tightly and cautiously opened the door. Outside, students were running in all directions, creating pandemonium.
Seeing the chaos, Ding Muyu quickly shut the door.
"No way. It's too dangerous out there right now."
"What's your plan?" Qi Zhou asked.
"We wait. Once the chaos outside subsides, we'll move. In the meantime, we can stay here and maybe earn some points while we're at it."
Ding Muyu's plan was solid, but she hadn't considered one thing—there was someone among them who thrived on stirring things up.
Beep… beep… beep…
In the quiet room, the ticking sound suddenly became painfully loud.
"Hey, do you guys hear that?"
"Sounds like… a timer."
