"Seriously, could there be a timed bomb in this classroom?"
"Impossible."
At that moment, Abigail tugged on Ding Muyu's sleeve.
"Sis, what's this?"
In Abigail's hand was a standard timed bomb.
"This is…"
Ding Muyu stared at the bomb, seeing the countdown with only ten seconds left. Driven by instinct, she immediately grabbed it and hurled it away. Then she realized something.
"Run! It's a bomb!"
After yelling, Ding Muyu flung open the classroom door and dashed out.
Everyone else, already gathered by the door, didn't hesitate and followed her out.
BOOM!
An explosion rocked the room as flames shot out.
"Ah!"
The students outside screamed in terror, and chaos erupted.
Meanwhile, due to the explosion, the reincarnators were forced out of the classroom, getting separated by the panicked crowd.
Abigail followed closely behind Ding Muyu, heading toward the rooftop.
"Sis, I'm sorry. I didn't know what that thing was."
To emphasize her innocence, Abigail put on a pitiful expression.
Seeing her tearful, vulnerable face, Ding Muyu squatted down to comfort her.
"It's fine. It was my mistake. Don't worry about it, Abby. We're separated from the others now, so stick close to me. We're heading to the roof. I already know what kind of scenario this is."
"Okay."
Ding Muyu had already imagined why Abigail had a timed bomb—she must have accidentally exchanged it from the main god.
For now, Abigail wasn't planning to cause any more trouble. After all, if she got Ding Muyu killed now, the fun would end too soon.
But even if Abigail wasn't causing chaos, the situation wasn't going as smoothly as they'd hoped.
Suddenly, a zombie appeared in front of them.
Seeing the obstacle, Ding Muyu gripped her knife tightly, took a deep breath, and charged forward.
With a swift, precise strike, she decapitated the zombie in one clean motion.
Breathing a sigh of relief, she thought, "Good thing I exchanged for knife mastery."
Yes, unlike others who exchanged for guns and ammo, Ding Muyu had her own ambition and strategy. She understood that if she didn't gain an advantage in her first mission, things would only get harder later on.
Seeing her points increase once again, Ding Muyu smiled.
"Come on, Abby. Don't be afraid. I'll protect you."
With that, she continued leading Abigail up to the roof.
—
After fighting their way through, Ding Muyu and Abigail finally reached the rooftop. Standing in this familiar place, Abigail couldn't help but reflect on how many times she had come here, only to leave because of the strong winds.
Along the way, they hadn't encountered any survivors. The rapid spread of zombies in this scenario was undeniable, though it was likely due to the dense school population.
Once they reached the roof, they noticed a large number of zombies.
Ding Muyu carefully closed the rooftop door and quietly approached a nearby zombie with her knife.
After stealthily killing it and gaining another point, she felt a surge of excitement.
With at least 40 zombies on the roof, Ding Muyu could already picture the additional 40 points she'd earn.
"How boring."
Abigail, having been told to keep quiet, decided to comply, maintaining her "obedient child" persona. However, if it wasn't her making noise, that should be fine, right?
She glanced around, then targeted the zombie closest to Ding Muyu. A small tentacle appeared at the zombie's feet.
The zombie stumbled and fell toward Ding Muyu with a growl.
Reacting quickly, Ding Muyu sliced off its head in one swift motion, but it was too late. The sound had already drawn the attention of the other zombies.
"Damn it!"
Faced with the looming threat, Ding Muyu crouched down and tossed the severed head toward the steel fence at the edge of the roof.
The sound of the head hitting the fence drew the attention of most zombies.
Ding Muyu easily dispatched the remaining one or two that hadn't been distracted.
"Nice moves," Abigail silently praised Ding Muyu, though no one heard her.
Having dealt with the immediate threat, Ding Muyu quietly returned to Abigail.
"Abby, let's go. This place isn't safe anymore."
Clearly, the earlier accident had made Ding Muyu reconsider staying to rack up points.
Taking advantage of the fact that most zombies had moved toward the fence, Ding Muyu led Abigail to a stairwell blocked off by a barricade made of desks and chairs.
After dealing with the zombies near the barricade, Ding Muyu turned to Abigail.
"Abby, try climbing up here. I'll hold off any zombies that come near."
"Okay. Be careful, Sis Muyu."
Abigail climbed up the barricade without causing any trouble—it didn't seem necessary at the moment.
Once she made it over, Ding Muyu vaulted the railing.
"Let's go, Abby."
As they walked, Ding Muyu pondered how she would explain her identity.
Fortunately, the main god had already taken care of that problem.
"Are you… an exchange student?"
Rounding the corner, a girl armed with a weapon asked.
"An exchange student? Yes, I am. My name is Ding Muyu. I'm so glad to have found a safe place."
Ding Muyu quickly caught on and played along with the girl's question.
"Miyamoto, it's okay. They're not infected," the girl called back.
She lowered her weapon and approached.
"Hi, I'm Saeko Busujima, and this is Takashi Komuro. That over there is Hisashi Igō."
"Ding Muyu, nice to meet you all."
"Yeah, seeing someone alive right now is such a relief. Who's this?"
The girl had noticed Abigail standing by.
"Oh, this is my sister, Abigail."
"Hi, big sister. My name is Abigail."
"Hello, Abby."
After a quick introduction, Ding Muyu steered the conversation toward their next steps. Meanwhile, Abigail approached Hisashi Igō.
Looking at this tragic figure, Abigail thought she'd try something out.
"Big brother, are you hurt?"
"It's nothing, just a small wound."
"But that must hurt, right?"
"I can handle it."
Hisashi Igō forced a smile.
"Big brother, I know a spell that can take the pain away. Want to try?"
"Sure, why not."
"Okay then, big brother. I'll start now… (chanting)"
After finishing the chant, Abigail's lips curled into a sly smile as she looked at Hisashi Igō, who seemed unaffected. The seed had been planted—it was only a matter of time before it sprouted.
"Does it feel better now?"
"Yes, much better. Your spell worked, Abby."
Although his wound still hurt, Hisashi Igō feigned relief.
"Really? That's great."
Poor guy, Abigail thought. Just a pawn in the story, manipulated by others. Even when he finally got closer to Miyamoto, he ended up dying. His death conveniently resolved the tension between Miyamoto and Takashi, bringing them closer together. What a perfect tool.
But don't worry, even though you'll still die, I'll make sure your fate won't be as tragic this time. You'll serve your purpose, and then you can control your destiny—even if you're still a tool.
Suddenly, Hisashi Igō's face contorted in pain, and his expression turned hideous. Abigail knew he was about to turn into a zombie. Not wanting to be sprayed with his blood, she pretended to be frightened and backed away.
Moments later, Hisashi Igō coughed up blood.
Phew! That was close, Abigail thought as she narrowly avoided the splatter.
"Sis, look! Big brother's coughing up blood! What should we do?"
"How can this be? Hisashi Igō, what's happening to you? It was just a small bite… why is it this bad?"
Miyamoto ran over in a panic.
"There's no saving him. Once someone's bitten by a zombie, it's over."
...
The rest played out just like in the original story. Hisashi Igō turned into a zombie and was killed. However, thanks to Ding Muyu's intervention, Hisashi Igō was able to stay conscious long enough to throw himself off the roof, shattering his skull upon impact.
And just like that, Hisashi Igō exited the stage.
Yet no one noticed that a few tentacles emerged from the ground, wrapping around Hisashi Igō's corpse and dragging it into an unknown space.
Hisashi Igō's death left a heavy atmosphere in the air.
Just like in the original story, Miyamoto began to break down, venting her emotions to Takashi. Takashi prepared to climb over the barricade to fight the zombies, but Miyamoto stopped him and confessed her feelings.
Ding Muyu didn't interfere, and Abigail, for once, didn't stir up trouble either. After all, the real fun was yet to come.
---
Time ticked by. During this period, Miyamoto called her father, confirming that the situation outside was dire as well.
After waiting a while longer, Ding Muyu decided it was time to act.
"Waiting here won't help. We need to find a way to break through."
"But there are zombies everywhere. If we get bitten, we'll end up like
Hisashi Igō."
"But if we stay, we'll die too. We need to try."
Abigail interjected softly, "Let's go, big sis. I'll help protect everyone."
Looking at her, everyone felt a renewed sense of determination.
However, no one noticed Abigail's small smile.
