Chapter 35: The Gate of the Abyss

The tremors in the cave grew stronger, and the blue light surged between the runes, as if conducting some ancient ritual. Jack, Sarah, and Tom stood at a distance, watching in horror as Anna stood alone before the massive rune, seemingly completely under its control. The atmosphere in the cave had become oppressively heavy—the whispers were no longer just a background murmur but were growing increasingly clear, as if calling forth some ancient presence.

"We can't just stand here!" Sarah gritted her teeth, anxiety filling her eyes. She tried to approach Anna, but the force of the blue light made each step feel like a struggle against an invisible resistance.

"They're opening some kind of gate—we have to stop them." Tom's voice was filled with fear and despair, but he still mustered the courage to stand beside Sarah. They understood that Anna's actions affected not only her safety but seemed to be linked to some unknown power beneath the ice plain.

Jack took a deep breath, his mind racing. He knew that in this situation, action was more important than thought. He quickly scanned the surroundings, trying to find anything that could help them break the current impasse. His gaze then fell on some runes carved on the ice wall—different from the ones Anna was touching. These runes glowed gently and steadily, untouched by the surging blue light.

"Maybe these runes can help us!" Jack shouted, pointing to the symbols on the ice wall. "We need to try and see if we can neutralize that power!"

Sarah and Tom immediately ran towards the direction Jack indicated, attempting to mimic Anna's actions by touching the runes. At first, nothing happened—the blue light continued to dance in the cave—but when the three of them placed their hands on the runes simultaneously, a warm energy began to flow beneath their palms.

The runes gradually grew brighter, emitting a soft golden glow that contrasted sharply with the blue light. The whispers seemed to hesitate at that moment, and the oppressive feeling began to ease.

"It's working! Keep going!" Jack yelled excitedly, pressing his fingers firmly against the runes. They could feel the golden glow resisting the blue light, and that strange energy made them feel as though they were one with the entire cave.

Meanwhile, Anna's figure also began to change. A glimmer of clarity appeared in her eyes, and her previously vacant stare began to regain focus. Her grip on the rune slowly loosened, and her whole body wavered as if waking from a dream.

"Anna!" Sarah shouted, hope filling her eyes. "Wake up! We're here!"

Anna's gaze gradually cleared, and she looked towards Sarah, seemingly realizing something. Her hand finally let go completely, and the blue light began to recede from around her. The rune's power no longer bound her. She collapsed to the ground, exhausted and gasping for breath.

Jack, Sarah, and Tom immediately rushed to Anna's side, supporting her. Her eyes were filled with fatigue and confusion, and she said weakly, "I... heard them... they were calling to me..."

"It's okay now. We're here," Sarah comforted her gently, holding Anna's hand tightly. She knew Anna had just experienced some unspeakable terror, and they were all still trapped in that unknown threat.

Just as they thought the situation had improved, a low rumbling came from the depths of the cave—a sound that seemed to come from underground, accompanied by the trembling of the ice. The entire cave shook. The blue light no longer merely flickered among the runes but seemed to gather into a tangible stream, flowing towards a specific direction in the cave.

"What... what is happening?" Tom looked at Jack in panic, his voice filled with fear.

Jack frowned, looking in the direction where the blue light was gathering. His instincts told him that this was no coincidence—the blue light seemed to be guiding them, or rather, revealing some hidden truth.

"We have to follow it," Jack said firmly, despite the unease in his heart. They had no other choice. They had to uncover the truth, no matter the cost.

"Are you sure? It could be dangerous." Sarah looked at Jack worriedly, but she knew he was right—they were out of options.

"Danger is certain, but we have to know what they want," Jack replied, determination in his eyes.

Supporting Anna, they slowly moved in the direction the blue light was flowing. The whispers still echoed in the cave, but they no longer seemed as forceful, instead becoming deep, like some ancient sigh.

As they continued onward, the blue light in front of them converged into a massive gate—a gate composed of runes, with the blue light flowing between them like blood through veins. The shape of the gate was ancient and solemn, as if it awaited an important moment.

"Is this... the Gate of the Abyss?" Sarah's voice was filled with awe. She gazed at the gate, feeling an immense power emanating from behind it—something beyond time and space.

"Maybe the answer is on the other side of that gate," Jack said softly. Despite the fear in his heart, he knew they had to cross that gate to face the unknown abyss.

The three of them exchanged glances. Although filled with apprehension, they knew there was no turning back. Supporting Anna, they moved towards the gate of blue light.

As they approached, the runes on the gate began to flicker, and the whispers became clear once again. The sound seemed both to welcome them and to warn them that this would be a point of no return.

"Are you ready?" Jack took a deep breath, uncertainty in his voice.

Sarah and Tom nodded, a determined glint in their eyes. No matter what awaited them, they had to cross the gate—to seek the truth and reclaim their lost selves.

They reached out together, touching the runes on the gate. Instantly, the blue light blazed, and the whispers roared in their ears, like countless ancient voices chanting simultaneously. The gate slowly opened, revealing the endless darkness and the unknown beyond.

"Let's go," Jack said quietly, stepping forward through the Gate of the Abyss.

Sarah, Tom, and Anna followed closely behind, their figures gradually swallowed by the darkness, leaving only the blue glow shimmering on the gate—witness to a significant moment's arrival.

In this chapter, the four finally reach the "Gate of the Abyss" and temporarily save Anna by interacting with the runes. They decide to follow the blue light, cross this mysterious gate, and face the truth and threats behind the abyss. The continuous presence of the blue light and whispers adds deeper suspense and mystery to their journey.
