Chapter 23: Swords of Destiny

Amidst the billowing smoke rising from the ruins of the fortress, the Japanese forces moved swiftly. General Saito, his face smeared with blood and his shoulder wounded by the mysterious arrow, stood tall among his soldiers. His eyes burned with fury and determination.

"We cannot let them escape just like that!" his voice thundered. "Reform the ranks! I want Li Feng and Chen’s heads before sunset!"

The surviving samurai and Ashigaru quickly lined up, their swords gleaming under the dawn light. Though many were exhausted, their fighting spirit remained unbroken. Saito turned to his deputy, Lieutenant Harada.

"Send scouts throughout the forest. I want to know where they’re running to! Also, summon reinforcements from the nearest city."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the forest, Li Feng and the rebel warriors continued their retreat. They carried Hao, who was still in critical condition, while Chen kept a vigilant watch for any pursuers.
