“Behold our return!” I would have yelled, but I only ended up just thinking of a scenario where I did. I mean, it wouldn’t be unlike me to do so, but David was with me and any embarrassment on my part will reflect badly on him, so I remained silent.

“Are you thinking of doing something ridiculous?” David asked, tapping his umbrella on the stonework as he came through the portal that he had summoned for us to get here.

“Me? Why would I—” But I wasn’t able to finish.

“Yep, you were, classic Lucinda.”

I huffed angrily. “I am not that predictable, am I?”

“The only thing predictable about you is your unpredictability, everything is some sort of joke to you.”

“Well, someone has to make light, Mr Grumpy-pants.”

David shook his head. “Sure, why not, but in that case, I have to say that Daniel does a far better job at making jokes.”

“Oh? If you like him so much, then why don’t you marry him?”
