Chapter 149: Setting the Trap

Luca, Gray, and Alyssa moved swiftly to put the final pieces of their plan in place. The docks loomed ahead, dimly lit by a few scattered streetlights. The warehouse they had chosen stood at the edge of the water, its rusty metal walls concealing their strategic positions.

"Remember, stick to the plan," Luca whispered, checking his firearm before nodding to Gray. "If Darren catches wind that we know he's coming, he'll bolt."

Gray's jaw tightened as he glanced at Alyssa, who was crouched behind a stack of crates, her eyes darting nervously between the two men. She had sworn her allegiance to them, but trust was a fragile thing. "You sure you can do this?" Gray asked her, his tone laced with doubt.

Alyssa gave a curt nod, clutching her weapon tightly. "I'm not the one you should be worried about," she shot back, her gaze steady. "Just make sure you stick to your part."

As the minutes ticked by, the tension hung heavy in the air. Luca and Gray took up their positions on opposite sides of the warehouse, ready to ambush Darren and his men as soon as they arrived. They had set traps at the main entrance and scattered oil along the dock to slow Darren's escape if things went south.

A distant hum of engines echoed across the water, signaling Darren's arrival. Luca's pulse quickened, and he signaled to Gray, who nodded in response. They watched as a convoy of black SUVs pulled up in front of the warehouse. The car doors swung open, and Darren stepped out with a confident smirk.

But something was off.

Darren's eyes seemed to search the shadows knowingly, a subtle smile playing on his lips. "Come out, come out, wherever you are," he taunted, his voice dripping with arrogance.

Luca's finger hovered over the trigger as he exchanged a glance with Gray. Had they been found out?

Then, Darren called out, "You really thought I wouldn't know you were here?" He gestured to one of his henchmen, who dragged a struggling figure into the light. "You should choose your friends more carefully."

The sight of the bound man made Luca's stomach drop. It was Mark, one of their closest allies, his face bloodied and bruised.

Gray's breath hitched beside him, the betrayal hitting them hard. Alyssa's role in the setup was now a burning question. Had she led Darren straight to them, or was this another one of Darren's twisted games?

As Luca's mind raced, Darren laughed darkly, "Oh, you didn't think this would be that easy, did you?"
