Chapter 15

My heart skips a beat. I'm not sure if I am ready for another conversation like the one we had last night, but i nod my head anyway. "Sure."

He gestures for me to follow him, and we walk to the small sitting room just off the kitchen. The room is so cozy, with large windows that overlooks the garden, and the morning light streaming in giving it a warm, inviting glow.

Michael stands by the window with his hands in his pockets and his back to me. I wait, my heart pounding in my chest as the silence stretches between us.

Finally, he speaks, his voice quiet. "I owe you an apology."

I blink my eyelids rapidly in surprise. "An apology?"

He turns to face me, his expression serious. "For last night. For everything, really. I've been… difficult, and that's putting it lightly."

I don't know what to say. I have been prepared for another round of his usual coldness, but this—this is different.
