Chapter 16

 

He gives out a bitter laugh. "The real me? You wouldn't like the real me."

 

I frown at him for saying such a thing, stepping closer. "I think I'm starting to get to know the real you, and I haven't run away yet."

 

His gaze softens for a brief moment, and I can see a flicker of a smile tug at the corner of his lips. "You're persistent, I'll give you that."

 

I smile back, grateful for the slight easing of tension between us. "I'm not giving up on you, Michael. No matter how hard you try to push me away."

We stand in silence for a moment, as the weight of our conversation linger in the air. I can feel the pull between us, the unspoken connection that has been building ever since the moment we met. And for the first time in a long time, i feel like maybe, just maybe, things can be different.

 

"Do you want to go for a walk?" I ask suddenly, as the idea popped into my head.
