Chapter 11 Senju Hashirama: I’m going to die

In the end, Tobirama still didn't teach Yuya about the Reincarnation of the Impure World.

Instead, Yuya was given the highest authority in Konoha's Secret Arts Room. Tobirama had placed all the ninjutsu he created in this room, sealing them. Only those with the mark he gave or the Hokage seal could enter and temporarily release the seal.

Tobirama carved a transparent sorcery mark on Yuya's palm. As long as Yuya had that hand, he could access the Secret Arts Room without hindrance. Yuya was very satisfied and, in return, gave Tobirama thirty kilograms of gold. Tobirama didn't waste any time getting the gold and quickly ran off, pondering how best to use the 150 million taels worth of wealth.

But, like last time, Tobirama couldn't give the money to any clan. Whenever someone asked why there was still money, he simply claimed it was leftover from a previous use and never mentioned receiving thirty kilograms of gold.

Tobirama had wondered whether Yuya had hidden some gold, but after considering it, he realized dozens of kilograms were already a lot. Besides, as Yuya said, this gold couldn't have come from gold mines—after all, during the last war, the entire land had been scoured. If there were a gold mine, surely someone would have found it by now.

At least, scattered pieces of gold would have been discovered by someone.

Tobirama already felt somewhat guilty taking these things from Yuya, let alone searching for any leftover gold. His priority now was to quickly convert this gold into something beneficial for Konoha Village.

Senju Hashirama didn't comment on the matter. He had been spending less time at home lately, frequently visiting gambling houses. Yuya had used his abilities to turn stones into gold, enabling Hashirama to swindle the gamblers.

Since the gamblers weren't exactly upstanding citizens, Yuya felt no guilt about cheating them.

A month later, on New Year's Day, something unexpected happened.

It's not that Konoha Village lacked entertainment—there was none at all. Ordinary people had to work hard to survive and couldn't even guarantee they'd be full at every meal, let alone indulge in entertainment. So, New Year's had no special significance.

Construction on the Wetland Bridge was ongoing, with no one wanting to take a break as it neared completion. They didn't know when the next opportunity would come, so they wanted to get whatever they could.

That night, while Yuya was sleeping, he felt the ground tremble. Thinking it was an earthquake, he rushed outside in fear, only to find a towering tree growing out of the mansion.

Yuya was confused. He knew exactly whose handiwork this was.

Senju Hashirama's Wood Release was famous throughout the ninja world, but why use it at home now?

Yuya scratched his chin, wondering if his master and mistress had been fighting again.

Soon after, Uzumaki Mito came to his room, clearly worried about Yuya's safety. Upon seeing Yuya standing in the yard in his pajamas, Mito sighed in relief and waved him over.

Yuya walked to her with a smile. "I thought there was an earthquake, but it turns out it's just Master's Wood Release. Why is he using Wood Release at home?"

Uzumaki Mito's expression dimmed slightly. She then said, "Come with me. Your master has something important to tell you."

Yuya, now even more confused, followed her to Hashirama's room.

As he entered, he saw Hashirama looking awkwardly at the large tree that had appeared in his room.

When he noticed Yuya, Hashirama tried to play it off casually. "Oh, you're here, Yuya."

Yuya nodded but couldn't help staring at the massive tree.

Hashirama coughed awkwardly, then knelt on the floor with a serious expression. "Yuya, there's something I need to tell you. I... am about to die."

Yuya, still distracted by the tree, didn't process what was said at first. He nodded absentmindedly before the words sank in. His eyes widened.

"What?! Master, are you joking?!" Yuya looked at him in disbelief. "You don't look like you're about to die!"

Indeed, Hashirama seemed healthy and energetic—he didn't look like someone at death's door.

Hashirama scratched his head and laughed awkwardly. "I know it's hard to believe, but it's true..."

With that, he motioned for Yuya to kneel as well.

Yuya, still skeptical, knelt in front of Hashirama. "Master, do you owe someone money again? Are you trying to trick me into paying your debts?"

Hashirama's face darkened. "Am I really that kind of person?"

But after thinking about it, he realized that Yuya had helped pay off quite a few debts for him before. After a brief cough, Hashirama became serious. "Do you know Uchiha Madara?"

Yuya was startled. Who in the village didn't know about Madara?

Nodding, Yuya's suspicion deepened. Was his master trying to change the subject?

Hashirama lowered his eyes and began telling the story of his relationship with Uchiha Madara.

"Madara and I met as children... Later, we became the strongest members of our respective clans. To keep our clans alive, we had to accept missions from daimyo and wealthy merchants. Because we were equally powerful, whenever someone hired the Senju clan, the Uchiha clan was hired by the other side..."

Hashirama continued to explain how Madara's brother had died at Tobirama's hands, sparking a war between the clans. "We were both tired of fighting, so creating a village where all clans could live in peace became our shared dream. You know what happened after that..."

He described how Madara hated Tobirama and ultimately left the village, leading to their final battle.

After more than half an hour of talking, Hashirama lifted his kimono, revealing the skin beneath.

Yuya stared in disbelief at Hashirama's chest, where his muscles seemed to writhe as if they were alive.

"In that battle, I killed Madara, but I was also severely injured. Thanks to my body, I recovered... but something went wrong. I've begun to experience the consequences of my recovery. My body is being consumed..."

Hashirama smiled softly at Yuya. "So... I'm going to die."
