This novel starts intentionally slow through the exposition and world building, everything kicks into gear after the turning point in the latter half of Volume 1, and especially Volume 2, where the tone of the novel shifts. So, I hope you stick with it and enjoy the wild ride!

Chapter 24. "Just let it happen, the war has to end."

As Ezra held the gun to the head of the trembling figure in front of him, the light of the fire illuminating the haunted look of shock and horror on the soft, delicate features of his face, Ezra felt his insides begin to twist in discomfort.

And no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't will his finger to move.

'Come on! Do it you coward! Just pull the fucking trigger! What is wrong with you?' He screamed at himself inside of his head as his hand began to shake.

But the image of the look of primal fear and childlike innocence on that angelic face flashed in front of his mind and a sudden, disturbing realisation began to form.

He couldn't do it. He couldn't pull the trigger.

"FUCK!" Ezra cursed loudly and spun around, launching the gun far into the rainforest in desperate frustration.
