Chapter 20: Killing the Silver-Skin Chief, Triple Rewards

As the door opened, the Silver-Skin Chief groaned in confusion, "What the hell's a pizza?"

He opened the door wider, but before he could react further, Alex already had his staff raised.

Fireball!

Fwish! Boom!

The fireball erupted from his staff, hurtling toward the chief's chest.

The impact was immediate, sending the large NPC stumbling back, his face twisting in shock as flames seared through his armor.

-1430!

The hit had dealt more than half of the chief's health, which was 2300, in a single strike.

"You little—!" the chief snarled, rage burning in his eyes as he regained his footing, he didn't know who this human was, but if it was attacking him, then he was killing it.

Fwish!

With a speed that caught Alex off guard, the NPC charged forward, lifting one of his massive legs.

Slam!

The kick connected squarely with Alex's stomach, the force sending him flying backward.

His body crashed into the entrance door, knocking the wind out of him.

-746!

"Argh…" Alex groaned, pulling himself to his feet.

He wiped the blood from his lips, his health bar dropping drastically.

"You're going to regret that decision," the Silver-Skin Chief growled, pushing the broken door aside.

His booming voice echoed through the square outside as players who had been passing by gathered to watch, pointing and whispering.

"Haha… we'll see," Alex replied, his voice steady but determined.

This was not Alex's first time fighting the Silver-Skin Chief.

In his past life, the chief had killed him swiftly when he was just a beginner, leaving Alex no choice but to respawn.

But this time was different.

This time, Alex had his legendary staff, he had the stats, he had the damage to get rid of it, he wouldn't lose.

The chief lunged forward again, his massive fists aimed at Alex.

But Alex, prepared this time, raised his staff.

"Earth Shield!" he commanded.

A shield of solid rock formed in front of him just in time to block the chief's attack.

The force of the punch shattered the shield into pieces, but it had absorbed most of the damage.

Alex smirked, knowing the NPC wasn't expecting his defense.

The Silver-Skin Chief staggered for a moment, caught off guard by the earth magic.

Alex seized the opportunity.

Fireball! Fwoosh!

Another fiery projectile blasted toward the chief. But this time, the chief anticipated the move and dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the spell.

The battle continued just like that: the chief's strength was overwhelming, but Alex's agility and magic kept him alive.

Each time the chief attacked, Alex either blocked it with his staff, earth shield when he could, or dodged just in time, casting fireballs, crystals and rocks in quick succession.

"COME ON!" The Silver-Skin Chief roared in frustration, swinging wildly at Alex.

But Alex was quick, and he saw the opportunity there.

He ducked under one of the chief's heavy blows, and with a swift move, he struck the chief's leg with his staff.

Crack!

The hit caused the chief to stumble, tripping him up just long enough for Alex to cast another spell.

That was all Alex needed.

He quickly raised his staff, fire surging at the tip.

Fireball!

Alex cast, sending the flaming projectile straight into the chief's chest again.

Fwoosh! Boom!

The fireball exploded on impact, engulfing the chief in flames.

His health bar dropped to zero in an instant, and his massive form collapsed to the ground.

-1430!

The battle was over.

The Silver-Skin Chief lay lifeless at Alex's feet, his body slowly beginning to disintegrate into nothingness.

Ding!

[Server Announcement: The Silver-Skin Chief has been killed by 'FateBreaker', granting him 10 free attribute points and 3 skill points!]

[Server Announcement: …]

The message echoed three times not just for Alex but across the entire server.

Players in the village and beyond were stunned. How had someone killed the level 20 chief this early in the game? It was impossible!

Even if 50 of them joined forces, they would do too little damage to actually kill it!

Meanwhile, Alice, who was busy hunting boars and snakes in the forest, received the same notification.

She couldn't help but laugh.

She'd been gone for ten minutes and already Alex had caused chaos.

[You have slain 'Silver-Skin Chief', gaining 17,371 experience points!]

[Your reputation with the Silver-Skin race has reached the bottom of the abyss.]

[In exchange, your reputation with some other races, enemies of the Silver-Skins, has increased by 50!]

[Ding! You have earned 1 Prestige Point!]

Alex put his 10 free attribute points into Vitality, knowing he would need more health in the future.

But his job wasn't done yet.

[Extract from the 'Silver-Skin Chief'!]

'Extraction...'

Bosses seemed to never truly have a list of items, instead, the object Alex extracted from them was based on luck, or maybe it was decided from the start, who knows.

Ding!

[You have extracted 'Pact of the Silver-Skin Killer']

[Description: A proof that you have beaten the chief of the silver-skins, this may be used to cause special events in the future.]

"Hm…" he didn't know anything about that, but it was probably since no one truly had the idea of killing the chief in his past life, at least not in this village.

That thing didn't have a rarity, so he was able to put it inside his [Beginner Backpack].

He stepped past the chief's crumbling remains and entered the room the NPC had emerged from.

The real treasure was still inside.

This was the true reason Alex had come here: to claim the Silver-Skin Chief's rewards.

When getting 100 reputation, you could meet with the chief, who would give you a B-Level quest: eliminate the level 10 final boss of the novice village.

Whoever did that would be able to choose among three rewards the chief had in his office.

But since Alex had killed the chief, all three were his for the taking.

He stepped forward and eyed the items displayed on ornate pedestals inside the chief's room.

You would usually be restricted to only one per novice village, but here he was, ready to take all of them.

The first was a shimmering fruit, its surface glowing faintly with magic.

[Talent Evolution Fruit (ARTIFACT)]

[Description: Consume the Talent Evolution Fruit to gain a single perk for your talent. The perk is random and will depend on the rating of your talent, meaning it could either be strong or weak!]

"Heh," Alex smiled: this meant another perk, because yes, you could stack up [Talent Evolution Fruits], though he would need to wait for Alice because of, you know, the side-effect.

The second item caught Alex's attention next: a dark, rune-inscribed orb that pulsed with power.

[Orb of Dual Class (ARTIFACT)]

[Description: This rare artifact allows the user to obtain a secondary class in addition to their primary class. Use wisely, as it cannot be changed once chosen.]

Alex's eyes widened.

This was an incredibly valuable item.

Most players were restricted to one class, but with this, Alex could become more versatile, combining the power of a Mage with something else.

And lastly, there was the third item: a simple parchment with intricate details drawn across its surface.

[Novice Village Map (LEGENDARY)]

[Description: The map of the novice village, will show locations of secret areas, and completion rate of the map.]

These were all the items, incredible for a novice village, isn't it?

That was why only one person could get them, and only one of the three items at that.

Daniel had been the one to complete that task in his previous life, and he had chosen the [Talent Evolution Fruit], granting him an additional perk that made him much stronger than he was right now.

Oh, and by the way, you don't see their descriptions or names when you choose the items after completing the quest, which is why Daniel didn't pick the [Orb of Dual Class].

Without hesitation, Alex grabbed all three items.
