Chapter 36: Defeating the Undead King, Soul Contract

The battlefield was pure chaos as the boss and Alex faced one another.

The Undead King towered over the plains between the city and the temple, its massive, decayed frame cutting an imposing figure against the horizon.

Its hollow eyes glowed with an eerie light, and with each step it took, the ground trembled beneath its weight.

All around, players scrambled to avoid its devastating attacks.

Daniel and his team from the Overlord Guild had just arrived, but they now hung back, waiting for the perfect opportunity.

"Now!" Daniel hissed to Vex, his second-in-command, "Send in the strike team while he is busy, we'll get him in an ambush and make him regret his previous decisions!"

Vex nodded, motioning for a dozen players from their guild to circle around and ambush Alex.

But as the players charged forward, eager to strike, they found themselves caught in the chaos of the battle.

The Undead King moved with terrifying speed for its size, swinging its massive arms in wide arcs that sent waves of debris and destruction across the field.

Anyone who got too close was instantly killed by the shockwaves alone.

Worse, when the players did manage to attack the boss, their efforts barely registered.

[MartialMage: IDIOTS, DON'T TRY TO ATTACK THE BOSS! YOU'LL ONLY DO 1 DAMAGE!]

Even so, a few of the more reckless guild members attempted to take on Alex.

But with a swift flick of his wrist, Alex would cast a spell, cutting them down where they stood.

Alice, by his side, loosed arrows with deadly precision, picking off anyone who dared approach.

[MartialMage: FUCK! JUST BACK AWAY! WAIT UNTIL HE'S EXHAUSTED FROM FIGHTING THE BOSS!]

The plan was sound in theory.

But as the fight wore on, it became clear that Alex wasn't tiring at all.

Around Alex, Alice, and the Undead King, tens of thousands of players stood watching.

A tenth of them were members of the Overlord Guild, ready to strike whenever they could find a weakness.

But the Undead King wasn't giving anyone a chance.

"STOP... TRYING... HUMAN!" The Undead King roared, its voice shaking the entire battlefield.

Grand Fireball!

Boom!

-2908!

The fireball exploded against the Undead King's chest, staggering the massive boss.

The dark energy surrounding its form flickered for a moment as it dropped its colossal sword to the ground.

"T-THIS IS... IMPOSSIBLE..." The Undead King roared, its voice filled with disbelief.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Alex muttered, clearly unimpressed.

He twirled his staff in his left hand and started sprinting toward the boss, dagger in his right.

The Undead King, sensing the danger, slammed its hand down where Alex had been just moments before.

But Alex was too fast. He leapt onto the boss's arm, using it as a platform to propel himself up toward its head.

Strike!

Fwish! Slash!

-1974!

The cut left a deep, jagged mark across the Undead King's skull, and Alex flipped back, landing smoothly beside Alice.

"Y-YOU... FOOLISH... MORTAL-" the Undead King growled, but before it could finish its sentence, the blue light in its eye sockets flared.

Then, with a deafening explosion, its head shattered into pieces.

Ding!

[You have slain secret boss 'Undead King', gaining 8742 experience!]

[+10 prestige points!]

Alex reached level 26 with that!

"WOW!" Alice gasped, her eyes wide in amazement.

"Haha…" Alex chuckled, already moving toward the crumbled remains of the boss's body.

Without wasting a second, he activated his [Extraction] skill.

Ding!

[You have extracted an artifact: 'Soul Contract'!]

[You can use it to contract with any being, whether an NPC, a monster, demon or even god, though the other party needs to accept!]

[It is not a physical item until you are ready to contract, so it will be stored in your inventory!]

"Oh..." Alex's eyes lit up as he read the description, a grin spread across his face. "Amazing…"

"What is?" Alice peeked over his shoulder, trying to see what had gotten him so excited.

"You!" Alex suddenly spun around and grabbed Alice, lifting her off the ground playfully.

"~~!" Alice let out a small yelp, her face flushing red as she fidgeted in his arms.

After their brief, playful moment, Alex set her down gently and his expression grew serious again.

He could feel the tension in the air.

The battle might have been over, but there were still hundreds of players watching them, slowly closing in.

Alice, noticing the shift in his demeanor, turned to see the wave of players approaching, "W-What should we do...?" she asked, her voice tinged with fear.

"Don't worry... they can't even put a dent in me," Alex replied with a calm smile.

He placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, "Stay close."

His main concern was for Alice's safety.

The moment anyone dared touch her, he would make them regret it.

Within seconds, the first wave of attackers rushed forward, but Alex wasted no time.

Grand Fireball!

Boom!

The fireball exploded in the middle of a group of players, instantly killing dozens of them.

Strike! Slash!

Alex moved through the crowd with ease, his dagger flashing as he cut down player after player.

Each strike was lethal, and the players fell like flies, completely outmatched by his overwhelming power.

Lightning Strike! Boulder Smash! Crimson Shard!

The battlefield erupted with explosions of magic, each spell taking out multiple enemies.

The overwhelming power of Alex's abilities left the attacking players with no chance.

And even when they managed to hit him, their attacks only dealt 1 point of damage, thanks to his Legendary [Awakener's Set].

The tide of battle soon shifted entirely in Alex's favor.

One by one, the players were wiped out, leaving a trail of blue flashes anywhere he went.

"HOW?! LITERALLY HOW?!" Daniel screamed from the backlines, his voice filled with frustration and disbelief.

His plans had fallen apart.

"THIS CANNOT BE POSSIBLE!"

"Leader, we should go," Vex advised, his voice calm despite the chaos, he had seen enough to know that Alex was far beyond their ability to handle.

"NO, FUCK THAT SHIT!" Daniel shouted, his eyes wild with desperation.

Fireball!

In a final, desperate move, Daniel raised his staff and launched a fireball toward Alex.

But Alex didn't even bother to acknowledge it.

Grand Fireball!

Boom!

Alex's fireball intercepted Daniel's mid-air, overpowering it with ease.

The explosion that followed instantly vaporized Daniel, leaving nothing behind as his body flashed.

"Told you so," Vex sighed, shaking his head as he turned away.

With a resigned look, he began to walk back toward the city, not bothering to wait for the rest of his guild.

The battlefield was quiet now, with only the wind and the faint crackle of magic lingering in the air.

Alex stood at the center of it all, unscathed and victorious.

"Guess that's done…" he muttered, looking around at the carnage he had left behind.

Alice stepped up beside him, still in awe of everything that had just happened.

"You… You really are incredible…" she whispered, her eyes full of admiration.

Alex chuckled, scratching the back of his head, "It's nothing. Just doing what I had to."

But inside, he couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to get a lot more complicated.

With the Undead King defeated and the Overlord Guild humiliated, there was no telling what would come next.
