Prologue

The young man stood quite a distance away from the group, almost like a ghost.

He was the only one of them who wasn't wearing any black, instead dressed in all white.

A stark contrast amongst the gravestones around him.

The sun bounced off of his suit, causing him to squint slightly.

He didn't much like the light, it hurt his eyes.

It was ironic, the sun being out on such a miserable day.

It should have been raining, storming, even. But it also made sense.

He was such a nice person, sunny even in the gloomiest of times.

He was the only true light in this world.

The young man supposed it was a cruel laugh from fate; having such an angel dissappear from this world so soon.

The gentle breeze carried with it the disgruntled murmers of the people in front of him.

Every now and then, some of them would glance back at him, disgust evident on their faces.

They didn't like him being there, that much was obvious, but what could they do? It was kind of funny, really; how they hated that he was there and yet he was the only one who truly cared about him.

Everyone else was only here for show.

The perfect family.

He wasn't going to leave. He'd made a promise.

Besides, ruining their sparkling image was kind of fun.

Generally, he didn't care about promises, but it was a promise to him, and he was going to honour it.

Whatever it takes, he wouldn't break that promise.

No matter how much the grief clawed at him, no matter what his relatives did to him, no matter what the world threw at him, he would keep his promise.

If only for a chance to see him again.

Anything for that.
