The bell shrilled, signalling the end of the lesson.
I hurriedly shoved my things into my backpack in such a disorganised way that I would surely curse at my past self later.
A shadow fell over my desk and I looked up, expecting to find Mrs Hayes glaring down at me because of my stunt yesterday, only to see my best friend grinning stupidly, arm around my girlfriend's shoulders.
"Heard you were in trouble with the teach again yesterday." Rory said, his voice held a hint of humour as he tried not to laugh.
"Mhm.." I replied, not giving him the satisfaction of the reaction he wanted.
"What did ya do this time?" He pried, not bothering to hide his intentions.
I shrug my shoulders, not bothering to answer.
After a pause I spoke up, "lunch, then?"
Rory agreed and I stood up, slinging my bag over my shoulder, the weight of it making me grimace slightly.
Why did books have to be so heavy?
As I made to move past them, Nina latched onto my left arm, gazing up at me through her fake lashes and too much make up with a big smile plasterd on her face.
I pursed my lips in return, a half hearted smile, the sort you would give when passing someone on the street.
She was nice, honestly. Really nice.
She had a pure heart.
I couldn't deny that she was beautiful, even with all that make up.
I just couldn't bring myself to love her the same way she loved me.
My heart belonged elsewhere.

Once we got to the bustling cafeteria, we stood in the winding queue for our overpriced food.
It didn't even taste that good.
Rory and Nina talked animatedly with eachother as she continued to cling onto me, her weight making me stand all lopsided.
When it got to our turn, we got our food and made our way over to a quiet table in the corner.
We took our seats, Nina sitting so close to me that she was practically in my lap and Rory opposite us.
I shuffled away from her slightly.
She was too close.
Even if I didn't much like the food, it would be nice to be able to eat it.
I looked up and saw Rory giving me a strangle look.
"What?" I asked, my tone defensive for some reason.
"Nothing, nothing..." he muttered.
I frowned at him, deciding to just let it go.
Was he mad at me? Why, though?
Did I forget something again?
I took out my phone and checked the date.
Nope. It wasn't his birthday.
I opened the notes app full of reminders that I will never look at, and created a new note.
I titled it "URGENT! REMINDER! ASK RORY" in hope that I will remember to look at it tomorrow.
I clicked on the plain text and added "Ask why he looked at me weird."
I closed the app and put my phone away, getting back to my lunch.
As I ate, I could hear Nina and Rory talking in a somewhat hushed voice.
Like they didn't want me to hear.
I payed them no mind.
