"How is this possible?!"
The canine-headed wizard was dumbfounded, his face filled with shock.
Could the opposing wizard tower's energy pool actually be medium-sized rather than small?
Liam and the skeletal-faced wizard also looked grim.
After two volleys, their tower's defensive energy field had already lost nearly two-thirds of its durability. One more barrage and it would be on the verge of collapse!
Meanwhile, their own wizard tower's spell turrets were firing in return. Yet, compared to the enemy's scale and firepower, they were far inferior. The attacks struck the opposing tower's energy field without leaving so much as a ripple.
"It's fine! Even if their energy pool is medium-sized, it's impossible for them to sustain a third barrage at this scale…"
The canine-headed wizard's voice carried a faint tremor, as if trying to reassure himself. But before he could finish, the opposing wizard tower lit up again, unleashing another volley of spell rays.
"…"
His voice died instantly, replaced by a stunned silence.
Liam and the skeletal-faced wizard felt a chill run down their spines as despair crept in.
Another barrage!
Could the opposing tower's energy pool be large-sized?
Their energy field, which already showed signs of strain, wasn't on par with small-scale ones. It had to be medium-sized or even large.
And with 300 overpowered spell turrets, how could this still qualify as a small wizard tower?
Even medium towers weren't usually this formidable!
As the trio stared in shock, the enemy tower began glowing again, preparing for another volley.
Seeing this, all three shuddered visibly, their faces a mix of terror and disbelief.
The defensive energy field protecting their tower wouldn't survive another attack. It would undoubtedly collapse.
Realizing this, Liam made a swift decision.
"Deploy the internal forces!"
With a hum, intricate magical arrays emerged on the surface of the Obsidian Wizard Tower. From within, winged bone-clawed creatures emerged, their skeletal wings spreading as they surged forward to intercept the incoming spell rays.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
These winged bone-claws were significantly stronger than ordinary ones, clearly more advanced. But against the spell rays, they were as fragile as glass, shattering instantly.
Yet their sacrifice was not in vain. The barrage of spell rays was successfully intercepted, sparing the Obsidian Wizard Tower from destruction.
Seeing this, the trio exhaled deeply in relief.
But their respite was short-lived.
The enemy tower deployed its own puppet army.
Thousands of enchanted mithril golems surged forth, their metallic forms glowing with enchanted radiance as they charged toward the winged bone-claws.
The battle erupted in an instant.
"These mithril golems…" The skeletal-faced wizard narrowed his eyes. "They've been enhanced with enchantments and stabilized with spells."
The winged bone-claws were peak-tier second-circle legendary constructs, comparable to standard mithril golems.
However, these mithril golems were clearly reinforced and modified, their combat strength surpassing the bone-claws.
For a moment, the enemy tower ceased its spell turret bombardment, likely due to the immense energy cost. This gave Liam and his companions a brief reprieve.
Despite this, the situation remained dire.
After hesitating for a moment, Liam gritted his teeth and deployed the tower's final battle sequence.
More winged bone-claws emerged from the Obsidian Wizard Tower.
This time, they were visibly different—larger, more imposing, with black runes etched into their skeletal frames, resembling intricate, hollowed armor.
As they took to the air, a chilling frost permeated the atmosphere.
One of the enhanced bone-claws met a charging mithril golem, catching its punch effortlessly before tearing it apart with a single swipe.
Inside the Starlight Wizard Tower
Su Nan observed the scene, his eyes gleaming with interest.
"Wizard-grade puppets, hmm?"
He chuckled lightly, issuing a command.
"Deploy the secret constructs and cephalopod puppets."
[Command received. Deploying secret constructs and cephalopod puppets.]
Brilliant magical arrays appeared, and an array of secret constructs and massive cephalopod puppets emerged, surging toward the enhanced bone-claws like streaks of light.
In both quantity and quality, Su Nan's forces were superior.
The enhanced bone-claws faltered as the secret constructs and cephalopod puppets overwhelmed them, rapidly reversing the battle's momentum.
The situation now looked even bleaker for the Obsidian Wizard Tower.
But Liam and his companions had no time to worry about tactics.
They stared wide-eyed at the enemy forces.
These were the same puppets that had captured Evan!
Could this wizard tower belong to a Starlight Continent faction?
The thought crossed their minds but was quickly dismissed.
They knew all too well the immense resources and expertise required to build a wizard tower. Such capabilities shouldn't exist on this continent.
The constructs that had captured Evan were unmistakable—the same puppets now attacking their Obsidian Wizard Tower!
Could this wizard tower actually belong to a wizard faction from Starlight Continent?
As soon as the idea surfaced, the three immediately dismissed it.
They knew how difficult it was to build a wizard tower. The resources required were astronomical, far beyond what the resource-starved Starlight Continent could provide—even for a small wizard tower.
Moreover, the wizard tower before them surpassed the specifications of a small tower in terms of energy pool, defensive energy fields, and spell turrets.
If that was the case, how could they explain this wizard tower and its wizard-grade puppets?
Their minds raced chaotically as they watched the last of their black-rune bone-claws being destroyed by the secret constructs and cephalopod puppets.
When the puppets turned and surged toward their Obsidian Wizard Tower, Liam's heart sank.
"We need to retreat! We're no match for this wizard tower!"
The canine-headed wizard's voice trembled, his earlier arrogance completely shattered by fear and shock.
The skeletal-faced wizard turned to Liam, his expression grim. "We need to retreat now."
Their tower's defenses and combat capabilities were no match for their opponent. The energy field was on the verge of collapse, and it wouldn't withstand the puppets for much longer.
If the puppets breached the tower, Liam might be able to escape, but they were as good as doomed.
The only option was to retreat, find a place to recover, and send word back to the Dark Throne for reinforcements.
Liam understood this, though he was reluctant to abandon their plans to claim resources. In the end, survival took precedence, and he began preparing the tower for a swift escape.
Before he could act, however, a dazzling light erupted from the top of the Starlight Wizard Tower.
In the blink of an eye, a massive beam of energy shot forth, tearing through the void and striking the Obsidian Wizard Tower.
Pop!
A faint sound echoed, like a bubble bursting.
The defensive energy field shattered instantly, and the beam struck the tower without resistance.
There was no explosion or debris—only silence as a ten-meter-wide section of the Obsidian Wizard Tower vanished into nothingness.
The sight left Liam and his companions pale with terror.
"Is that… a disintegration cannon?"
"No, the power is far beyond any disintegration cannon!"
The disintegration cannon, often the most powerful long-range weapon on a small wizard tower, was formidable. Yet, the Obsidian Wizard Tower's own cannon hadn't been able to dent the enemy tower's defenses.
The Starlight Wizard Tower's disintegration cannon, however, had obliterated their defenses and left a gaping hole in their structure.
Taking advantage of the chaos, the secret constructs and cephalopod puppets surged into the tower.
Liam's group heard relentless explosions from below. Soon, the floor beneath them cracked open, and a swarm of wizard-grade puppets poured in, attacking them head-on.
"Damn it!"
The canine-headed wizard cursed, summoning his skeletal canine head. It grew enormous, lunging at the puppets with snapping jaws.
Meanwhile, the skeletal-faced wizard's flesh melted away, revealing a luminous white skeletal frame. The touch of a cephalopod's tentacle struck his bones with a metallic clang, but he was unharmed. He grabbed the tentacle and tore it apart with a powerful wrench.
Despite their combined strength as high-tier crystalline and liquified wizards, the three were clearly outmatched.
Then, as if to confirm their fears, a massive silver hand burst through the floor and seized the canine-headed wizard before he could react.
The skeletal canine head attempted to intervene, but another silver hand emerged, grabbing it tightly.
The hands clenched, producing a series of horrifying crunches and a brief scream. When they released their grip, the remains fell lifelessly to the floor.
The ground shattered further as a towering silver giant rose into the room.
The skeletal-faced wizard attacked swiftly, his claws radiating deathly energy as they slashed toward the giant's back.
Before he could strike, a crushing pressure filled the air.
The oppressive weight immobilized everyone in the room. The skeletal-faced wizard's once-fluid movements slowed to a crawl. Even the flames in his hollow eye sockets flickered sluggishly.
The silver giant turned, capturing the skeletal-faced wizard in its massive hands. Its body twisted and flowed like liquid metal, encasing the wizard in a spherical prison.
The sphere began spinning, emitting a high-pitched whirring sound. When it stopped, nothing remained—not even dust.
Within moments, the skeletal-faced wizard was utterly annihilated.
The fight had ended as abruptly as it had started. Liam, still entangled by puppets, hadn't even had time to intervene before both his companions were killed.
He stared at the carnage, his blood running cold.
The strength of his companions was undeniable; Liam himself could have defeated them, but not with such terrifying ease.
This silver giant—no, this mysterious wizard—was far beyond his level.
"Who are you?!" Liam roared in desperation.
The silver giant did not answer.
Its metallic body began to glow, strange alchemical engravings lighting up its surface.
"Alchemical engravings…"
Liam's voice quivered as he recognized the markings.
The oppressive weight in the air grew exponentially, pressing down on him with unbearable force. Even with protective magic and energy barriers, he felt his body on the verge of collapse.
Panicked, he activated his wizard relic.
A dark smoke materialized, forming a massive shadowy figure behind him.
The figure radiated a terrifying aura, its glowing red eyes locking onto the silver giant as it charged forward.
The giant was unfazed.
With one punch, it obliterated the shadowy figure, scattering it like mist.
The silver giant stepped forward, towering over Liam, and delivered a series of unrelenting punches.
Each strike shattered a layer of Liam's defenses—magical barriers, enchanted items, and finally his physical resilience.
In just three blows, Liam lay broken and bloodied on the ground.
The silver giant stopped.
Its metallic body shrank, revealing the man within.
The silver liquid receded into his pores, exposing a young man who looked no older than twenty.
Staring at the youth, Liam finally understood.
This was the source of everything—th
e puppets, the wizard tower, the mysterious wizard faction on Starlight Continent.
The man before him was behind it all.
This was Liam's final thought before a beam of silver light pierced his forehead, plunging him into eternal darkness.
