Chapter 249: Unreasonable Super Firepower

In the southeastern region of Starlight Continent, high above the sky, the void suddenly twisted as if an invisible claw tore through it, ripping open a massive rift.

The rift slowly spread open, and from it emerged a towering wizard tower, its imposing structure shrouded in an aura of darkness.

The massive tower was pitch-black, resembling obsidian, with a cold and eerie luster. On either side of the main spire were curved structures resembling turrets or arrow towers. Together, they formed the shape of a dark claw, exuding a sinister and menacing vibe from a distance.

Within ten breaths, the wizard tower fully detached from the rift and hovered in the sky, while the rift behind it gradually disappeared.

A low hum resonated as an invisible wave spread outward from the wizard tower, rapidly enveloping an area of dozens of kilometers.

Inside the topmost floor of the tower, a cold and monotone voice rang out.

"Detection field activated. Scanning a 30-kilometer radius."

"Detecting energy particle concentration."

"Detecting magical aura."

"Detecting material environment."

"Scan complete."

As the voice finished, a three-dimensional model of the area appeared in the air, marked with dense annotations.

Liam quickly scanned the text and nodded slightly.

"Not bad. The energy particle concentration on Starlight Continent is almost back to the levels of two millennia ago."

Behind him stood two other wizards.

The wizard on the left had half of his face stripped of flesh, revealing stark white bone, giving him a terrifying appearance.

The wizard on the right retained his facial features but had a canine skull instead of a human head. Two faint blue flames flickered in his hollow eye sockets, hinting at his former identity as a canine.

Upon hearing Liam's remark, the skeletal-faced wizard grinned sinisterly, his raspy voice echoing. "If it weren't for the Elemental Wasteland, the energy particle concentration and resources here would far surpass many secondary planes. If we seize Starlight Continent before other wizard factions notice, we'll have another resource-rich plane."

The canine-headed wizard clicked his tongue in regret. "It's a pity that the resources haven't fully recovered. Otherwise, we could have plundered enough to last decades of cultivation."

"Be content." The skeletal-faced wizard let out a chilling laugh. "If the resources were fully restored, this mission wouldn't have been ours. The Crown Wizards' kin would have snatched it away long ago!"

The canine-headed wizard scowled but didn't refute, clearly agreeing with the sentiment.

The Crown Wizards' descendants were infamous for their greed, seizing every high-reward, low-risk mission. The remaining tasks were either exceedingly difficult or too insignificant for them to bother with.

In the predatory hierarchy of the Obsidian Throne, those like them—exploited and marginalized—often found themselves in awkward positions.

"Enough idle talk." Liam interrupted, his gaze turning cold.

"The energy particles here still don't match those of the Obsidian Moon Plane. Wasting too much time here will delay our cultivation. Let's handle matters quickly and return."

The other two nodded, their thoughts aligning with Liam's. The canine-headed wizard produced a bone whistle, placed it to his mouth, and blew.

No sound emerged, but an eerie ripple spread out, traversing vast distances through the void.

The three waited patiently.

But as the hours passed with no arrivals, Liam's expression darkened.

The skeletal-faced and canine-headed wizards also sensed something was amiss, their brows furrowing deeply.

"Could it be that Evan and the others are caught up in something?"

"What on this continent could prevent twelve wizards from responding? Even if they were delayed, they could've sent a bone raven to relay a message. This complete silence means something is very wrong!"

As they spoke, Liam's expression shifted. He extended his hand toward the void, and a bone raven materialized in his palm, struggling restlessly.

Seeing the bone raven, the other two wizards relaxed slightly.

If a message had arrived, the situation couldn't be too dire.

But they soon noticed something odd. This bone raven showed no intention of transmitting a message.

Liam's eyes flickered as he clenched his fingers abruptly, crushing the raven into fragments. From the shattered bones emerged a small, hazy, blue light.

With a swift motion, Liam pointed at the light with his index finger. A ripple of faint luminescence spread out, forming a mirror-like screen that floated in midair.

The screen flickered to life, displaying a series of scenes.

Although the images were somewhat blurry, they clearly depicted a battle.

Above the southeastern region of Starlight Continent, a glowing curtain displayed flashing light and shadows, revealing a blurry yet unmistakable battle.

One side was led by Evan.

On the other were three identical girls and four massive metallic squids.

Liam and the two other wizards immediately recognized them as puppets.

The battle lasted less than ten minutes before Evan was quickly defeated and subdued, knocked unconscious by the puppets and taken away.

The projection ended there, the curtain of light scattering into particles that gradually faded into the air.

Liam and the others wore grim expressions.

It was clear that something had gone terribly wrong with Evan's team.

"Evan has always been cautious. This bone raven must have been his last-ditch effort to warn us while the enemy was unprepared." Liam's eyes darkened, his expression fluctuating.

"Judging from this, the twelve who first entered Starlight Continent have likely fallen into enemy hands. Their fate does not look good."

The canine-headed wizard frowned. "This doesn't make sense. Starlight Continent has been sealed for a thousand years, its resources depleted. It shouldn't be possible for powerful beings to emerge. How could twelve wizards be entirely wiped out?"

"It's hard to believe, but the facts are plain to see," Liam replied in a somber tone. "Those puppets that captured Evan were clearly wizard-grade. We all know what that implies."

The skeletal-faced and canine-headed wizards fell silent, their expressions turning uncertain and wary.

They knew very well what that meant.

Wizard-grade puppets require immense resources, exceptional skill, and significant strength to create.

If there had only been one or two, they might have been relics from a forgotten wizard's legacy.

But seven wizard-grade puppets of different designs could only have come from a wizard faction.

And therein lay the disbelief.

By all reasoning, Starlight Continent's environment should make the emergence of a wizard faction impossible!

Producing even a single wizard should have been considered a miracle!

What in the world had transpired on this continent over the past two millennia?

"It seems we've underestimated Starlight Continent." Liam's eyes narrowed.

"What now?" asked the skeletal-faced wizard.

Before Liam could answer, the canine-headed wizard sneered. "What else? We avenge them, of course!"

"Even if there is a wizard faction here, so what? A faction developed in the Elemental Wasteland era, with maybe a few hundred or a thousand years of legacy, can't have much strength."

"With our wizard tower, we have nothing to fear. We'll crush them and teach these backwater fools the price of opposing the Obsidian Throne!"

Liam shot him a glance, his tone cold. "Don't underestimate them. If they can create wizard-grade puppets, they must have some strength."

Despite his words, Liam internally agreed with the sentiment.

Starlight Continent's environmental limitations were evident. Any wizard faction originating here could only achieve limited strength.

It likely didn't even meet the multiverse's recognized standards for wizard factions.

Though they were only three, they had a wizard tower. Overwhelming such a minor, pseudo-wizard faction would be more than manageable.

Looking on the bright side, the presence of a wizard faction indicated that Starlight Continent's resources might not be as sparse as they had feared.

At the very least, that unknown faction likely held a significant amount of resources.

If they could crush the faction and seize its resources, this mission would undoubtedly yield substantial rewards.

Thinking of this, Liam's heart stirred with anticipation.

The other two wizards, their eyes flickering, were clearly entertaining similar thoughts.

"Revenge is essential, and we still have the mission of conquering Starlight Continent to complete." Liam's voice grew firm.

"However, we shouldn't act rashly. We need to gather intelligence and understand this wizard faction's situation."

It was a prudent suggestion, and the other two quickly agreed.

With a faint hum, the wizard tower surged forward, speeding toward the horizon.

The tower's flight was swift. Before long, a town's silhouette appeared in the distance.

"We'll start by interrogating the local noble. They'll know the most," Liam instructed.

The canine-headed wizard grinned. "Let me handle it. My corpse hounds haven't eaten in a long time. This town should be enough to sate their hunger."

Liam cast him a glance, expressionless, but nodded in agreement.

It was just a human town. If wiping it out yielded useful information and didn't delay their mission, Liam wouldn't interfere.

After all, these two weren't his subordinates but temporary teammates for this operation. While his status as a Level 2 wizard allowed him to suppress them, he couldn't command them at will.

As they spoke, the wizard tower drew closer to the town, offering a clear view of its layout from above.

But at that moment, the void ahead twisted violently.

The clear blue sky was suddenly split open, forming a massive rift.

To Liam's shock, a towering wizard tower emerged from the fissure.

"A wizard tower!"

The canine-headed wizard's face paled as he cried out in alarm.

Liam and the skeletal-faced wizard were equally stunned.

What was going on?

Why was there a wizard tower here?

Had another faction invaded Starlight Continent ahead of them?

Could it be the Withered Council? The Wild Spirits? Or that devious group from the Deep Blue Alliance?

Liam's face turned grim. His intuition told him something was wrong.

"This tower's architectural style doesn't match any known faction," the skeletal-faced wizard remarked, frowning as he looked to Liam. "What now?"

Liam hesitated but didn't need to decide. The opposing tower made the choice for him.

A deafening hum shattered the air, like the simultaneous roar of countless beasts, the sound waves converging into a thunderous crescendo.

Blinding magical light erupted from the opposing wizard tower as countless thick rays shot forth, raining down on Liam's Obsidian Wizard Tower.

Hum!

The Obsidian Wizard Tower's defensive ward instantly activated, enveloping the structure in a rippling energy field that absorbed the incoming barrage.

But Liam and his companions turned pale.

"Spell turrets?"

"It looks like it, but the power is absurdly high!"

"The number is the real issue. That tower just fired 300 spell rays in one salvo!"

The trio was stunned.

A small wizard tower typically had about 100 spell turrets, with high-end ones reaching 150 or so.

It wasn't about cost; wizard towers had limited energy.

Equipping 300 spell turrets might boost firepower, but a few volleys would drain the tower's energy reserves. What would be the point?

Even towers with 100 turrets rarely used all of them simultaneously, preferring to focus fire based on the situation.

Yet this small tower had unleashed 300 spell rays at once, defying Liam's understanding.

It was entirely unreasonable.

And worse, these turrets were far more powerful than standard ones.

The first salvo alone had reduced the Obsidian Wizard Tower's defensive field by over 30%.

Not even a plasma cannon could inflict such damage!

"Bluffing fools!"

Recovering from his shock, the canine-headed wizard sneered.

"I refuse to believe their energy reserves can sustain this. That vol

ley must have nearly drained their elemental pool!"

Before he could finish, the opposing wizard tower lit up again.

Blinding magical light erupted once more as countless spell rays rained down, slamming into the Obsidian Wizard Tower.
