Chapter 3

Layla cleared her throat awkwardly to regain her composure even when the man sitting across from her was staring daggers at her with his gray eyes.

"My name is Layla Monroe and I'm here for my internship." She said confidently looking around at the other men sitting in the office.

"An intern?Seriously?" Layla heard the man across from her scoff which made her blood boil.

"What was he even doing in here?" She asked herself staring at him with her scrutinizing gaze as she had no idea she would be meeting him anytime soon and in TANNER REALTY GROUP of all places.

"President Ethan." An old looking man stood up "We were hoping she could work under you, especially now that we know that you have no personal assistant and no one else is willing to take on that position." The other men in the room nodded in agreement.

Layla stood quietly trying to access everything that was being said "Wait this beautiful man was working here and with what was being said she would be working under him?" Layla thought with dread.

Ethan stared at the girl who was standing across from him looking like an innocent kitten when she had almost bit off his driver's head yesterday. He thought about what Sebastian just said; He was right no one was willing to work as his PA for more than a week but since Layla would be an intern here she would be the only one willing to work for him....well until she decides to quit.

"You are right Sebastian." Ethan finally spoke staring at the men in the room."You are all dismissed." He said waving them off, the men shared confused glances before leaving the room.

"You.....come here" Ethan called startling Layla who was deep in thought, she walked towards him carefully before positioning herself in front of him, her hands clasped together in anticipation.

"Who asked you to sit?" Ethan frowned at her.

Layla stood up quickly apologizing to him with her gaze down.

"Sit." Ethan finally spoke staring at her .

"Thank you sir." Layla said half glaring at him which made Ethan's lip twitch in amusement.

"Why do you want to perform your internship at TANNER REALTY firm?" Ethan asked sitting straight with his hand on his chin.

"TANNER REALTY GROUP is the best real estate firm in the country and I would really like to intern here because it would give me more experience in my field of work and I am hoping that when I'm done with my internship I would get to work here" Layla answered confidently with a beaming smile.

"Your credentials." Ethan said looking at her with an impressed smug,Layla handed it over to him Immediately.

Layla decided to use that opportunity to study the office which was mostly gray and black but was exquisite, from what she noticed when she entered into the firm, the entire office was made with glass which was see through but could be covered with the blind curtains which was down at moment, Layla returned her gaze to the beautiful man, it was at that moment she realized she did not know his name.

"May I have your name?" Layla asked breaking the silence in the room. Ethan stared at her surprised because it was not everyday he met a person who didn't know who he was or ask him for his name casually without cowering in fear.

"Ethan Tanner." He answered before returning his gaze back to the credentials.

"Mr Ethan." Layla whispered the name as if trying to get used to it. "I am really sorry about what happened the other day Mr Ethan, I had no idea you worked here." Layla apologized looking at him with an innocent expression, but Ethan did not reply and just kept his gaze glued on her credentials.

"Well I must say your CV is really impressive, congratulations miss Monroe, you will be starting your internship under my guidance." Ethan said with a professional smile offering his hand for a handshake.

Layla beamed with happiness standing up quickly to shake his hand. "Thank you so much sir, you won't regret this".

"Your job starts.... tomorrow." Ethan said glancing at his wristwatch. "Your cubicle will be on the 3rd floor with all the other employees, I will telephone you whenever I need you in my office." He said but suddenly "On a second thought I will have a cubicle placed in here so that I can monitor you properly."

Layla's eyes widened in surprise. "Won't that be invasion of privacy?" She was surprised that he would want her in his office space. Ethan stared at her with a look that made her feel like she just said something stupid.

"Are you questioning me miss Monroe?" Ethan asked with an authoritative voice.

"No sir" Layla said quickly before turning around to leave but just then....

"Who asked you to leave miss Monroe?" He asked making Layla clench her fist before she turned to face him.

"May i take my leave Mr Ethan?" Layla asked through gritted teeth staring at Ethan who looked like he was enjoying her discomfort.

"That's more like it, you can leave." Ethan said relaxing on his office seat before waving her off, she nodded her head before turning around and heading towards the door.

"And miss Monroe?" Ethan called after her making her stop in her tracks "Yes sir?" She answered without turning to face him.

"Make sure to wear something appropriate for your new job "Ethan said and at his comment she turned around to look at him and Ethan could see her nose and cheek had turned red but he could not tell if it was from embarrassment or anger,she nodded before leaving the office.

Ethan pressed the intercom to call Jason who was his best friend and the COO of the company.

"Yes Ethan?"Jason enthusiastic voice came on, making Ethan roll his eyes.

"I need you to do a thorough research on Layla Monroe, I need it by the end of today."

"No please?"

Ethan heard Jason grumpy reply which made him chuckle at his best friend's playfulness "please." Ethan finally spoke which made Jason laugh at the other end before hanging up.

Layla was fuming as she made her way to the elevator. "The audacity of that man, he is Lucky he is my boss if not I would have punched his beautiful handsome face."She mumbled angrily as she got into elevator.

Once she got out of elevator she made a way outside the building feeling exhausted from today's event, she hailed a taxi and then entered she brought out her phone to do a research on Ethan; When she first met him she could tell from his aura and beauty that he was not ordinary man but she was surprised to have seen him today at TANNER REALTY GROUP and from the way the men in his office were respecting him, she could tell he held a very important position in the firm.

"Ethan Tanner."She typed then tapped the search button, her eyes almost bulged out their sockets when she saw who he was; He was the CEO of TANNER REALTY GROUP,but wasn't he too young for that position?

She hit her forehead with her palm lightly in frustration as she had not bothered to do any research before applying for an internship, she had only one face in mind and had been hoping he was still the CEO but it turns out that he was Ethan's grandfather and had given Ethan the position before retiring.

All her years of plan has been destroyed as the former CEO had retired and there was no way to get close to him; Layla signed in frustration as she placed her phone back into her purse contemplating her next move.
