Chapter 2

Layla was still fuming in anger by the time she got to her apartment, she slumped down on the couch beside her friend who was watching tv.

"Why do you look so wet and angry, did someone disturb you on your way back from the cafe?" Scarlett asked pausing the movie.

"It's just a jerk I met on my way home, he splashed water on me twice with his 'Fancy' car" Layla replied.

"Oh my goodness, give me his plate number so that I can hunt and take him down." Scarlett said standing up dramatically from the couch while cracking her bones and flexing her 'muscles'.

Layla burst into laughter staring at her friend who was trying to look mean and scary but instead looked so cute with her pouty lips and messy red hair.

"Oh Scarlett " Layla chuckled standing up to hug her friend." You are so sweet and cute but don't worry I took care of the jerk myself."

"You are sure?, I can beat him up for you.

Layla pulled her friend towards the couch before sitting down. "I'm sure Scarlett."

"What about your coffee?"

"It got cold in the rain." Layla sighed

"Don't worry about that, I made breakfast; Hold on I just need to dish it out." Scarlett stood up heading toward the kitchen leaving Layla in the living room who could not help but smile staring at Scarlett's retreating figure.

Both Layla and Scarlett had been friends since their college days; They both went to the same college but while Scarlett studied Engineering and now worked as a project Architect, Layla studied Business administration and Economics. Both girls decided to move in together after college to be close to each other without any worry.

Layla was the shy and quiet one while Scarlett was more outspoken and extroverted, despite their differences both girls always had each other's back.

Layla had grown so fond of Scarlett as she was like the elder sister she never had, most times she wondered what she would do without Scarlett by her side.

Scarlett woke up startled from a piercing screeching noise, she looked around the room checking for any sign of an intruder but found out the horrible noise was coming from Layla's bedside alarm clock.

"Oh God, this alarm will give me a heart attack someday." Scarlett mumbled getting out of her bed to turn off the alarm. She turned to look at Layla who was still fast asleep.

"How can you sleep after that awful noise." She laughed tapping Layla who was still fast asleep and did not look like she was ready to get out of bed.

"Layla you are going to be late for your interview." Scarlett said shaking Layla who snored in reply.

"Don't say I didn't wake you."Scarlett sighed leaving the room.

Layla woke up to the smell of freshly brewed tea and pancakes. "That smells good." She mumbled getting out of bed and going into the kitchen where she saw Scarlett who was already dressed for work and eating breakfast.

"Good morning." Layla greeted still rubbing her sleepy eyes before sitting down opposite Scarlett at the dinning table.

"It's high time you woke up." Scarlett smiled drinking her coffee .

"I guess I forgot to set my alarm again."

Layla groaned before stuffing her mouth with a forkful of pancakes.

"Uh huh." Smiled Scarlett "I just hope you remember your interview is this morning."

"Oh my God, why didn't you wake me up; I'm going to be late." Cried Layla running out of the kitchen into the bathroom.

"Trust me I tried, we both know that if a tornado had hit this city, you won't even wake up." Scarlett laughed while Layla groaned loudly in the bathroom.

"You still have about 30 minutes before the interview so you better hurry; I am leaving for work now." Scarlett said preparing to leave the apartment.

"Alright take care." Yelled Layla from the bathroom, Scarlett left the apartment and got into her car leaving for work.

Layla bath quickly before putting on a dress,' I'm so dead, I'm going to be late on my first day'. She sat down in front of the vanity mirror and started drying her hair while using her free hand to apply her makeup.

After 20 minutes, she was finally done with styling her hair and doing her makeup.

"I look good." She smiled admiring her self in the mirror."Remember Layla today is the day you have being waiting for years; You are going to finally avenge the death of nana, don't mess things up." She recited to herself like a mantra while staring at herself in the mirror.

Layla finally took her bag and left the apartment hailing a taxi outside the house.

Layla got down from the cab in front of the magnificent building, she could not help but gape at the beauty of the building. It looked so big and beautiful made entirely of glass with the name TANNER REALTY GROUP boldly written at the top of the building. Layla took a deep breath before confidently stepping into the building.

The inside of the firm was even more magnificent with posh people in tailored suit walking around, everywhere looked so splendid and beautiful that Layla could not help squealing inside. Though she acted cool while walking towards the receptionist who was a pretty young lady.

"Good morning, how can I help you?"asked the lady.

"Good morning, i'm here for my internship under the ...."

"You are 5 minutes late." Said the receptionist cutting Layla's sentence short.

"I know, i'm really sorry there was traffic on my way here."Layla apologize quickly feeling nervous.

"The interview is taking place in top building, take the elevator to the 6th floor." The receptionist directed her.

"Thank you." Layla smiled before hurrying to the elevator.

After pressing the 6th floor button, Layla decided to calm her nerves. "Everything is going to be fine Layla." Once the elevator door opened she found herself in the lobby with few people sitting down, she decided to join them but just then a lady came of a office which was situated opposite the lobby crying.

"Oh my, what happened to her?" Layla asked the man sitting next to her.

"She probably didn't get the job, I heard the CEO is a very cruel man but the pay sounds good". The man shrugged.

"Ohhh." Layla gaped before staring at the office where the lady came out from.

After almost an hour she was the last person left for the interview, Layla could not help the pounding of her heart. She had watched how everyone who came out the office were either in tears or had a sad expression.

"Next." She heard a man call, she walked towards the office and did the sign of the cross before entering, once she was inside she took note of the dark interior design and how everything looked lush; she looked around at the men sitting in the office, they were 6 of them.

"Good morning sir, I am Layla Monroe, I am here for..."Layla's word got stuck in her throat and her eyes widened in shock as she saw who was sitting in front of her.
