Kauri arrived back to the island. It looked as bad as before the only thing different was that the cave roof was no longer there, as the white dragon broke it. Slowly moving in he could feel how chilly it was.
" why is it so cold, even in these months", cried Anushna. She had joined him as he was still ot in his best shape and so they were also joined by two dozen men, here to help Kauri with whatever they needed.
"Yeah, there was a blue dragon who could use ice", Kauri answered.
"Woah! Ice in place of fire", she exclaimed in amazement.
"You know a proper gentleman gives his jacket to a lady in such cases", she added.
"I would have but I am not wearing anything under my jacket so I can't. If you are feeling cold just wait outside for me", he answered. This made her a bit frustrated and started walking quickly but stopped as soon as she started when she saw what was in front of her.
As they cautiously stepped inside, they were met with a chilling sight. The remnants of the battle were starkly evident in the semi-closed cavern. The walls were covered in pristine ice marred with deep gashes and scorch marks, telling the tale of a fierce conflict. Despite the passage of a week, the cold still lingered heavily in the air, and the floor remained encased in a layer of frost, preserving the scene as if time had stood still. It was as if the very essence of the place held its breath. The corpses are still in the same place as before.
"This is so bad", she remarked, her face could not hide the disgust she was feeling.
"Due to the cold temperature, the dead bodies are still in the same conditions", he answered," and that's why we are here."
He slowly moved towards the dead body of Gibor, his face still looked as it did then, and he could see the frozen tears under his eyes.
"Is that the man?", Anushna asked." yes the one who wanted to kill you", answered Kauri.
"He was not an evil man, it was just the cards he was dealt with were not what someone should have got", saying that Kauri carried his body and placed it near his sister.
"I can't even imagine losing someone close to me, I can't even think of the pain he must have felt", he said looking done. Seeing so Anushna came close to him, holding his hand as to comfort him.
"They may have been the wrong ones but still it was wrong of us to kill them", he remarked looking at the dozens of dead bodies all slain by his very own hands," so the best thing I can do is, do the proper ceremony for them after death, so at least they may get a second chance."
Hearing such great words even made the hardest of soldiers tear up and made them all cheer his name. This confused Kauri for a moment but then he started his job with all those motivated men helping him.
"Couldn't it have been better if we had done something when we could? As the royals of this nation could we have been better and if so could have the result for her and her brother have been different? Maybe they themselves could have been wonderful people, that I could have met in a much different light", Anushna remarked her eyes still concentrated on the dead siblings, she was holding back her tears so as to not look weak in front of her soldiers.
"You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, in no way it was your fault", he answered back," it was the fault of us heroes and of those demons, we can not change what has already happened but I promise to you that I will do whatever it takes to kill that demon king, ending his reign of terror. So no more in the future, something like this happens."
By now all the bodies had been collected, then they were placed on wood that they had brought with them, one of the normal priests had joined them and with his help, by proper rituals they placed the fire in the wood, incriminating the bodies, praying to the god to give them another chance, maybe a better life. For some moment they just stood there, taking in what was happening in front of them later leaving the place so as to never see it again.
