The Gifted Child

Idris was slashing through the hoard of demon wolves that he had encountered, while Scarlett and Livia supported him from behind. Their barrage of arrows and constant reinforcement magic made them quite a formidable duo.

"Hey Idris, would you please slow down", said Livia gasping for air.

By now both Scarlett and Livia were at their limit, they were both too tired to continue.

With his spear, Idris destroyed the last of the wolves in front of them, then he turned towards them. He didn't look even a bit tired by all this, though he was the one who really was charging the crusade.

"What happened to you two?", he asked.

"Can't you see, we both don't have the same mana capacity as you do? We can't fight for so long, what it has been four hours! Can we rest for a moment", Scarlett explained.

"You both get tired so easily, how small are your meagre mana? How can you call yourself nobles, even though Kauri has a much larger mana capacity", saying so he was reminded of Kauri in the palace, Anushna taking care of him in all ways she could. With brought a sour taste to his mouth.

"That man is a freak, why do you bring foul taste in your mouth by talking of him? Anyway let's just rest here for a while, then we will continue", said Livia.

"Yeah, we didn't even have a breakfast, let's take part in it", Scarlett said.

He had lost by 2-1 so Idris reluctantly had to agree. They placed a large cloth on the floor, on which they were to have a picnic in a high-danger zone. Slowly both the ladies unwinded the stuff they had brought, on the other hand, Idris, stood at the side still lost in his thoughts.

"Anyway, why do we even need that white-haired freak, can't we just leave him and go on? After all, see how good we are doing even without him. Believe me or not but he was bad luck", Scarlett remarked as she stuffed her face with cookies.

"Do you call falling on the ground every hour or so, doing good", added Idris with a smile. This made her choke on one of the co

okies needing some tea to make it go down. Anyway, Idris could remember his father's words. "You are a noble, you are better than all those peasants. For them you must be like god." and as he was sent with his party he said," Always be there with Kauri no matter what, don't leave his side."

"Anyways as nobles, we will have to do our job, protect the land that will be ours. For that all four legendary weapons are needed, my ' thousand heavenly spears', Kauri's ' Onikiri', and your 'elemental bow' and ' all healing bracelet'. These all are needed to take down the demon king."

With that he also settled down and started eating, though he was not trying to show it, he was clearly exhausted. Being a hero was not an easy task, being so extroverted and cheerful in front of the crowd always took a toll on him. And so unwinding like this though he may not like to agree but was doing good for him.

It was a nice day, the sky was cloudy so even during the noon, the weather was quite cosy, and the slow breezes were cooling them off. Some sweets and a cup of tea were heaven for them, even Livia and Scarlett have stopped arguing about Kauri. But they could not let the mood be so great for too long.

"Have you seen how Kauri was placed in the room of the King, now even the king likes him", Scarlett remarked.

"Yeah, if the princess was not enough. I even heard all the maids and soldiers crying about how heroic he was. Don't you think that he would get in between", Livia asked Idris.

"No, he will never. As he said he is nothing without me. That will never change, you must remember who I am", said Idris with a stern look on his face. He slowly slurped down his tea.

"Our Idris Simeon, the greatest child in history of all the noble families. The one born to kill the demon king. The smartest and most handsome man. One whose mana reserves are larger than people of a whole nation, anything I missed", said Livia with a smile.

Listening to this Idris gave a gentle smile and again went on drinking his tea. That was when they saw a little girl, 7 years of age coming towards them, she wore a shabby dress, her hair was undone and she was gasping for air. For a moment they were confused as to why she was there and that was when Livia saw her eyes were locked on the sweets in front of them. Seeing this, Scarlett started shuing the little girl while Idris was still confused and tried not to make eye contact with the girl.

That is when he saw a whole crowd coming running towards them, seeing them the girl was terrified ready to start her run. That was when Idris stood up and went near the girl, handing him a cookie, he kneeled in front of her and said," You are now under the protection of me, the hero, remember that. There is no need for you to be scared of anyone."

Saying that he summoned, one of his mystical spears causing shock waves all around them. This made the crowd stop right in front of him.

"Who are you people and why are you hunting this poor innocent girl?", he asked.

For a moment they just stood there, and then a man came in front and said," We are villagers from Kanika village, it is a bit south of here and that girl is one of our children. So now, if you allow it, we would like to take her back."

Listening to this the girl hid behind Idris, he noticed this and answered," But it sure doesn't look like she wants to go with you, why is that?".

"You sure ask a lot of questions, why does that matter, are you one of those tax-eating nobles? Who the hell are you?", one of them answered in anger.

Listening to this Idris slammed his spear on the ground, making mana flow in all directions. This scared all the villagers and then he spoke," Can't you tell? With my golden armour and golden spears, is it that hard to remember your hero?"

Listening to this shocked them all, they all fell on the ground. Bowing in front of the legendary heroes, seeing this even Livia and Scarlett stood up, hands crossed with a grin on their faces.

"Now tell me why were you trying to capture this little girl?", asked Idris.

With tears in his eyes, one of the men spoke," To keep ourselves alive sir, from the monsters!!!".

"I don't understand what you mean, explain to me clearly."

"A demon has taken our village hostage, if we don't do ask he asks us, he will kill us all. Every third month, we are to give him a young child to eat and he lets us live," they explained.

This almost sent Idris into an outrage," So you have been feeding your kids to a demon, how can you? Don't you have any humanity left in you?!!!".

"What else could we do, if we don't everyone dies. There was no way out of it."

"Hero, we have been waiting for you. Please save us, please take down that monster, we can't take this any longer, please help us."
