Bai Qing remained silent.
Yet, Shen Wan knew perfectly well.
How could she not understand her own son?
The moment he sees Yun Qiqi, he can't take a step away.
What could possibly be so good about that woman?
It wasn't that Shen Wan looked down on Yun Qiqi's background, but rather, the woman's conduct was simply disgraceful.
"Go back to your room and rest. I'll call Mo Xiao and have him return," Shen Wan said coldly.
Bai Qing pressed her lips together. "Alright."
With that, Bai Qing turned and left.
Shen Wan watched her retreating figure and sighed.
If only Bai Qing weren't so understanding.
If she would cry a little, Shen Wan would definitely stand up for her.
Shen Wan took out her phone and called Mo Xiao: "I don't care what you're doing right now, get back here immediately!"
She hung up as soon as she finished.
Mo Xiao frowned.
For Shen Wan to use the word "immediately," she was clearly very angry.
Could it be that Bai Qing had already spoken to Grandma?
Mo Xiao's mood suddenly darkened, his eyes growing cold and sinister.
Even Yun Qiqi was frightened by his demeanor.
"Mo Xiao, what's wrong?" Yun Qiqi bit her lip. "Did Bai Qing refuse the divorce and tell your grandmother?"
"I'm not sure." Mo Xiao picked up his coat. "I need to step out."
"Will you come back tonight?" Yun Qiqi held onto the hem of Mo Xiao's coat.
"Yes," Mo Xiao nodded.
Yun Qiqi smiled brightly. "I'll wait for you, no matter how late."
She would never let go again.
Mo Xiao gave her a deep look before striding out the door.
Yun Qiqi's gaze turned icy.
---
Mo Xiao returned to the Mo family residence.
Shen Wan confronted him at the door.
"What's the matter, Mom?" Mo Xiao asked coolly.
"You reek of disinfectant. What, did you finally realize the problem with continuing the family line was with you, so you rushed off to the hospital for a check-up?" Shen Wan asked icily.
Mo Xiao frowned. "Mom, what are you talking about? My health is perfectly fine."
"Fine? Then why won't you have children?" Shen Wan demanded, displeased.
"It's Bai Qing who doesn't want them," Mo Xiao said indifferently.
"That's nonsense," Shen Wan snapped coldly. "Mo Xiao, how can you shamelessly push the blame onto a woman? It's no different from those men who blame their wives for being unable to conceive. How on earth did I raise such a son!"
Mo Xiao frowned. "I'm telling the truth."
He had tested Bai Qing once.
After they'd made love, she mentioned wanting to enroll in an art class.
Mo Xiao had suggested that instead of dealing with boredom, why not have a child?
Bai Qing had immediately refused.
Shen Wan sneered. "And was it you who brought up the idea of having children?"
"Yes," Mo Xiao nodded.
"Ridiculous! If she had agreed, you would've accused her of ulterior motives. Besides, if you had a child and Yun Qiqi returned, what would you do then?" Shen Wan said, her anger flaring.
Mo Xiao was silent. "If Bai Qing doesn't want the child, she can give birth, and I'll raise it with Yun Qiqi. She's still young, she can find another man."
Shen Wan laughed in disbelief. "You can't possibly be my son. I need to check if there was a mix-up at the hospital!"
Mo Xiao: "..."
"I rarely interfere in matters between you and Bai Qing, so do whatever you want," Shen Wan said icily. "But with how heartless you are, you don't deserve her. There are plenty of brilliant young men at my law firm—many of them would be a far better match for Bai Qing!"
With that, Shen Wan turned and left.
Mo Xiao frowned.
He knew his grandmother adored Bai Qing, but to think Shen Wan was this fond of her, too, caught him off guard.
What kind of mother-in-law finds other men for her own daughter-in-law?
But for some reason, Mo Xiao's heart ached slightly.
The thought of that sweet little rabbit in another man's arms made him uncomfortable.
Mo Xiao headed upstairs.
Bai Qing lay on the bed, curled up in the sheets, fast asleep.
Though their last conversation had ended poorly, Mo Xiao's anger never lingered long where she was concerned.
His temper flared quickly but faded just as fast.
After all, this little peach was simply too tempting.
He could never resist taking a bite.
Bai Qing had a habit of sleeping in as little clothing as possible, finding too many layers restricting.
So, once upstairs, she had changed into a pearl-white satin nightgown.
Now, she was hugging the covers, her fair hand and leg exposed, looking utterly alluring.
"Bai Qing." Mo Xiao leaned over her, his arms on either side of her body, calling her name softly.
Bai Qing, half-asleep and exhausted, heard someone calling her, but didn't open her eyes, murmuring in a soft, sleepy voice, "Don't bother me. I'm tired."
Since becoming pregnant, she had been unusually drowsy.
Mo Xiao smiled faintly.
"Shall I sleep with you?" Mo Xiao's hand brushed over her smooth, delicate cheek.
He had no idea how she managed to keep her skin so soft.
"No, don't… you'll crush—" Bai Qing muttered, half-conscious, almost revealing that she was worried about the baby.
Mo Xiao's expression darkened. "We're not even divorced yet, and you're already refusing me?"
She had never refused him before.
Unless it was that time of the month, or she was feeling unwell.
He knew her cycle well—it wasn't that time.
Suddenly, Bai Qing felt a heavy weight on her body, as Mo Xiao pulled her into his icy embrace.
Bai Qing woke up instantly.
She stared at Mo Xiao, stunned. "Mo Xiao?!"
Mo Xiao was displeased.
She rarely called him by his full name.
Rarely!
It was always "Ah Mo, Ah Mo," and she didn't let anyone else call him that, claiming it was her special name for him.
Bai Qing quickly sat up, clutching the covers tightly, nervously watching him.
She knew Mo Xiao had a tendency to act impulsively, and now that she was pregnant, she couldn't afford to let him.
Before, she had indulged him and allowed his whims, but now things were different...
Mo Xiao didn't like how she was distancing herself, his voice turning cold. "What did you say to my mom?"
Bai Qing looked confused. "I didn't say anything to her."
"If you didn't, then how does she know Yun Qiqi is back?" Mo Xiao asked, displeased.
"Mo Xiao, Yun Qiqi isn't invisible. She's known by many in the capital, and you've even moved her into Renxin. Do you have any idea how many wealthy people go to Renxin for treatment? Once they see Yun Qiqi, do you think they won't talk? So, it's entirely possible the news reached your mother's ears through gossip!" Bai Qing, usually soft-spoken, had never lost her temper with Mo Xiao.
She had always tried to play the role of the perfect wife, but now she understood.
No matter how good she was, Mo Xiao would never care for her.
He even wanted her to save his lover.
Mo Xiao frowned at her response. "I was just asking."
"You're accusing me. You think I'm trying to avoid divorce, so I ran to your grandmother and mother to complain," Bai Qing said, her heart heavy with sadness.
She had never been that kind of person, and after marrying Mo Xiao, she had always kept her grievances to herself.
But his mistrust hurt her deeply.
Even if there was no love, was there not even basic trust?
What did she mean to him at all?
